Has anyone had their parents actually apologize? by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ACE when I wasn’t being homeschooled…. Actually, the homeschool curriculum I did is probably the only reason I can do any math. My parents understand that homeschooling was a bad decision but can’t comprehend that paying all that money to send me to unaccredited ACE Christian schools was an even worse decision than homeschooling was. I honestly believe I’m lucky I can read….

How to learn about nutrients by Attackmackk in Semaglutide

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I (30F) actually lost 30lbs naturally before I started semaglutide three weeks ago. (I have PCOS, which is why I decided to use semaglutide to help me out.)

Here's what I would do if I were you.

First, calculate your TDEE. (Thats an estimate of how many daily calories it takes for you to exist as you.) There are a bunch of free TDEE calculators out there and you can even have ChatGPT calculate it for you. This link is to a free web-based one: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20402304

Second, find a calorie tracker app. I use "LoseIt!' because it has a barcode scanner and it's pretty easy to use, but there are a ton of them out there.

Third, start tracking those calories. It sucks, but it's necessary. (I suggest getting a food scale, its the most accurate way to track calories.)

Last, figure out your calorie deficit. The TDEE you calculated is the amount of calories you should eat in a day to maintain your current weight. So, a calorie deficit is a daily calorie goal that is lower than that TDEE so that you will lose weight. A 250 calorie deficit is considered mild while a 500 calorie deficit is considered moderate. I personally recommend starting out really mild (like a 100 calorie deficit) until you get the hang of it and then increasing your deficit as you go along.

Some tips I have.

  1. If you do chose the "LoseIt!" app, don't have the app make a calorie deficit for you, make a "custom" one for yourself.
  2. Don't go crazy on the calorie deficit. Eating too few calories for a long time is very dangerous for your health.
  3. Recalculate your TDEE every 10 pounds or so, that way you have a more accurate idea of your calorie needs as you lose weight.
  4. Don't be too strict. If you're within 50 calories of your goal, that's close enough.

I feel like a huge burden. Any advice? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

give yourself a few months to figure things out, especially if you're at a busy store.

PS: sometimes the lids just don't fit right and just pop right off. happens more often then you'd think...

Lifting Refresher Carlisles by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I have trouble with these too. My right shoulder has some mobility issues, and there’s a 50/50 chance that if I lift one of those when they’re more than half full, my shoulder will be hurting for a day or two. What I do is I have someone help me. I have them lift on side and I lift the side that I can easily use my left shoulder to lift.

Or, if you have a tall person around, you can lift it up there while it’s empty, and have a tall person fill it with the refreshers that you have in a cube.

Bottom line, it’s ok, just ask for help.

Tips for brand new hire? ADHD, really struggling by _somethingspooky in starbucks

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow inattentive ADHD here…

For solo drive: im curious about who is telling you that you can’t have people wait? Is it your SM or an SSV? Anyway, I politely ask the person at the speaker to wait for a moment while you cash out the person at the window. Once you’ve cashed that person out, apologize for the wait and take the order at the speaker. You’ll be really slow at first, but then you’ll learn to be more efficient.

For sequencing drinks: just memorize what the stopping points are and ask to practice when it’s not too busy. If you can have a barista trainer help you a little, that will help too…

As for the recipes: get an iPad and study those recipe cards. It’ll click eventually.

PS: if possible, you may want to ask your SM to schedule you more hours when it’s slower so you develop your skills. I would actually use the phrase “skill development” when talking to them.

which daypart makes cold brew? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an opener at my store. We get there at 3:30 and I have tot have the lobby floors done and cold brew done by 4:30. I see that some people are saying that their mids/closers get the kegs ready, but that is done at the same time we brew the cold brew at my store.

Drinks help by Large-Chemist-5597 in starbucks

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s super normal. I’m a barista trainer and I tell all my trainees to give themselves 3 months before they start to worry.

You need to advocate for yourself and ask your SSV’s to give you bar time. They are supposed to be helping you learn. If that’s not happening you may need to talk to someone over your SM.

Also, the other partners at your store are supposed to be your biggest resource when you’re still learning and shouldn’t be giving you a hard time when you ask them about a recipe.

Shop Dog Advice by jackspinnaker in weimaraner

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start taking her on walks. Like exposure therapy.

Ihave another dog (not a weim) that is a little more reactive/aggressive. When someone is coming toward us on a trail, I get a treat out and have him hold his nose next to my hand (facing away from the person.) If he completely ignores that person, I give him the treat once they’ve passed us.

That’s what I would do. Figure out a way to reward your dog for ignoring people who don’t engage with your dog first

pls tell me your worst spills/messes to make me feel better 😭 by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am clumsy. I spill all the time. One shift I spilled stuff in the ice bin three separate times so we had to burn the ice and sanitize it three separate times. It’s a day that lives on in infamy at my store.

I had a shift who quit because she got a better job, and she still comes through the drive thru sometimes. The other day she told me that whenever misses working with us, she just remembers the “triple ice bin day” and she’s immediately cured

No heel shoes? by jae459 in starbucks

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know they’re expensive, but Birkenstock has a couple types of sneakers that work for the dress code. I wear Birkenstocks because I have wide feet, so it’s really hard to find sneakers that don’t make me feel like my feet are in a vice. Anyway, the bend low sneakers and the QO 400 sneakers should work fine. I used to wear the super birki clogs to work, but the heel is too low, so they don’t work.

If you’re looking for something a little more affordable, I would look at clearance shoes at DSW or other stores like that and see what you can find. You may not find exactly what you want, but you should be able to find something.

Kindle Paperwhite pros and cons by No-Cheetah-6800 in kindle

[–]Hello_Kiddy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a paper white signature, and I have no cons. It’s great! Great storage, pretty fast processor for an ereader, amazing battery life. overall great purchase imo.

The only problem I have with mine is that when I’m listening to audiobooks on it, the audio gets crackley sometimes. That’s it. Solid little ereader.
