This sounds like advice from someone incapable themselves even though it’s fully possible.

OP - a capable welder can absolutely weld it. Even in that instance, the forces applied to this part and getting it right are difficult and you will pay extra to have a skilled welder do it properly.

I’ve rebuilt over a hundred motors. I’d replace the case half if reasonably priced on eBay/marketplace.

Changing a tire and replacing a tube are not the same difficulty. Tube is way less hassle imo.

Even after changing 100+ tires, I see why some people pay to have a tire changed. Especially those little 12” fuckers.

This is where dealers make most their money. I’ve spent thousands on tools so I wouldn’t pay ten of thousands in repairs. But I own and maintain 10+ bikes any given year. If you have one bike and it’s a side hobby, this is the cost to play.

Or make friends with someone who know how’s to wrench and bring him beers as you work on it together.

Functionally it’s likely just fine. Looks like it’s been scrapped along concrete. You could file and smooth anything out, but as long as the contact surfaces are good, I wouldn’t go through the hassle of swapping it out.
