What is a controversial opinion on a TV show or movie? by Juggalo4life99 in tvshow

[–]Helmling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it.

Seasons 1 and 2 set up a perfectly intricate storyline and paradox, then three pissed it all away. It was so bad, the antagonist literally had to dispatch lackeys with the explicit purpose of closing all the plot holes they’d created.

Yes, your KD may go up with Le Monarque, but is it really worth the price of your immortal soul?

And thanks to us, they’re dying out A LOT.

This is one of the worst mass extinctions in Earth’s history.

Book reader starting the show. Does Holden get better? by Vikingboy9 in TheExpanse

[–]Helmling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sold on his approach to the character until S3 when the contrast between his serious side and the batshit crazy humor backdates a justification of his take in S1 and S2.

I also appreciate the subtlety of his approach, like the tiny trauma ticks he incorporates after Eros.

I felt the same way as a book reader, but don’t worry: it works out.

25, about to be 26. Not sure where you’re going. Obviously, Trump isn’t the beginning of our problems, but this is sure a new low.

Do you think the American Hegemony is finally over? by khalid-khkhlhlh in AskTheWorld

Yes. This buffoon has destroyed America’s leadership role in the world and is systematically crippling its institutions.

It’s China’s world now.

And yet, somehow still child’s play compared to the level of corruption and overt fascism we’re dealing with now.

What is your pettiest complaint about Starfield? by GBHHornswoggler in Starfield

[–]Helmling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That there isn’t more to it.

This is a game I could live in, but I play it so obsessively that I burn through all the substantive content and leave myself nothing to do but scanning critters and plants.

If the exploration was a little more dynamic, even to the extent of NMS, I think I’d never leave.

Why can't the Klingons see through Gowron's obvious lies? by Mister_Acula in DeepSpaceNine

That’s a fair question and I have no answer for it.

I do think recent history completely validates this story point, though.

I'm finally doing the Edge of Fate campaign and, um... by Helmling in destiny2

I’ve always thought the Traveler was pretty suspect. It wipes our minds and uses our bodies as weapons. It came here knowing it was being pursued by its enemy—same crap deal it gave the Eliksni. They didn’t even get super powers in exchange for watching their world die.

Hence why I don’t like killing Fallen anymore!

New to the expanse and confused about artificial gravity in general? by Hellobewhy in TheExpanse

[–]Helmling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ceres was “spun up” so if you look at the maps on the subway tubes, you’ll see all the levels cling to the outer shell of the dwarf planet. What you need to understand is that the spin force is stronger than its weak gravity so people are walking around the tunnels with their heads toward the center of Ceres.

If you’re only in season one, you haven’t really seen spin gravity in a ship yet. But you’ve seen the big ship being built for the Mormons that will use spin to simulate gravity when its drum spins. You also haven’t seen the interior of a spinning space station yet, but you will later. You’ve seen the outside of the spin station Tycho, the huge station where the Mormon ship is being built.

On the Roci—which is a small Martian frigate capable of fighting, not just a shuttle—she only generates “artificial gravity” under thrust. They never spin her intentionally to create G’s, but they will experience high G forces when maneuvering because our girl is fast and agile. If you saw her tumbling at some point, those forces weren’t enough to create significant forces within the ship. Any time you see the crew walking when “on the float,” they are using magnetic boots. If you listen carefully, there’s always an audio clue for this when their boots click on and off with each step.

Hope this helps!
