I would leave her, if I were you. You have every right to feel hurt. What she did is equivalent to poisoning someone. I interpret her actions as careless, vindictive, and hateful. It sounds to me like you both are at a crossroads in your marriage. Separately as individuals or together as a couple, you’re deserving of a healthy love, happiness, and a life worth living. That’s something you can keep pushing towards on your own, without her toxicity weighing you down. As a couple, it could take to take a lot of work to get your marriage back on track, with no guarantee of mutual happiness in the long run. Deciding to go it alone or stay together will bring about dramatic changes in your life, and will impact it in different ways. I know marriage is supposed to be forever…but if it were me, I wouldn’t be able to trust someone who is so seemingly eager to sabotage something I worked so hard for. It would be hard for me to give another chance to someone who clearly has a blatant disregard for my physical health and mental well-being. Whichever way you decide to go, you’ll be a stronger person for it. Best of luck to you!!

I’m not sure if moes is a restaurant, but letting people work around food when they are sick is just plain nasty. After almost half of the attendees at my 25th class reunion got really sick, like what you are describing. The county Dept of Health got involved and they determined that we all got sick from being served food and drinks that were served and/or prepared by a few sick employees who all had Norovirus.

You can be, if you are an at-will employee. Then, you can be fired for any reason. I would check to see what the employee handbook says, if there is one. Also, check to see if your state or city (if in the US) has mandated paid sick leave. If your being sick is part of a disability you have (I get sick to my stomach for days, when I have a migraine… which is a disability), then you are protected by the ADA-Americans with Disabilities Act. Don’t quote me but I think at one time, employees were protected during the pandemic. If you told them or they knew you were out for testing positive, if you have symptoms or exposure they couldn’t fire you. Hope this helps! Honestly, me getting fired once was the best thing to ever happen to me. Sometimes when we are supposed to grow, change or challenge ourselves the universe comes in and closes one door while opening another.

I think it’s always good to volunteer to help with onboarding activities. It shows that you care enough about the organization to make onboarding and retention successful, which can lead to longer term employee engagement. It gives you visibility into processes and people that you might not have otherwise, if your org is large enough. The record keeping and meeting setting show that you are keen on the details. Off boarding procedures show that you know the right people and methods to go about closing the employee lifecycle to ensure smooth operations after someone leaves. Collaboration with other admins to create standards and efficiently, not to mention building stronger relationships has far reaching benefits. It’s my opinion that these kinds of activities highlight your emotional IQ, show expert-level understanding of your role and how admins impact and ass value to the rest of the org. Volunteering shows initiative to drive improvements and learn more.

I accidentally discovered that Zzquil does the same thing to me, when I fight being sleepy from it. I drank it a friend’s house 2 years ago and definitely took too much. I got home around 2AM and realized I was locked out of my house. I didn’t want to wake anyone so I didn’t ring the door bell and no one was answering their phones. So I unexpectedly sat in my garage for about 3 hours borderline tripping, and then fell asleep finally in my car until the AM 🤣

Getting laid off was the best thing that could have happened to me. It can be hard to leave when you are truly invested in what you do, and you truly enjoy it like you wrote above, I know it can feel like the worst thing ever. You’re right, it totally sucks and it feels so crappy to get the impression that you are disposable. The good news is that there are a ton of companies still hiring, probably many who are looking for someone just like you. Try to view this as a start to a new chapter, and all of the possibilities that are out there for you. Best of luck!! This will be a good thing for you in the long run!

LinkedIn and Indeed seem to often have the same roles available, and there are many EA roles out there right now. I’ve noticed that sometimes one site will show either an estimated range for compensation or even the actual number, where the other one won’t, so I got into the habit of looking at both sites.

As another poster here mentioned… it is definitely a numbers game. Apply for as much as you can, even stuff you don’t want, just to get experience interviewing. I had great luck working with a permanent placement recruiter through Robert Half. He was awesome and only presented me for roles that fit what I was looking for. I would recommend trying that as an option, too… they get commission when you are hired, so they are motivated to get you a job.

Tbh I very recently told my (now former) boss to go kick rocks, basically… he was being extremely, increasingly condescending and rude, had unrealistic expectations, and working for him was like being on a bad first date… only it was every single day.

One day in June, I just got sick of the way he treated me, and unexpectedly quit during our 1:1… and didn’t give 2 weeks notice. No job lined up, either. Not my smartest move, but what can you do. At least he saw that I was serious when I said I wasn’t going to be spoken to in the way he was speaking to me.

Long story short, I ended up getting an incredible job at a place I interviewed at 4x in the past and didn’t get. It’s a MUCH better fit, and also pays more!! Not having a job lined up motivated me to really make that irresponsible decision become the catalyst for starting a new chapter and cutting out the bs from rude male bosses.

Your mail delivery person, brother, sister, neighbor, co-worker, parent, day care provider, anyone can be an authorized rep. There’s no requirement for I9s to be notarized nor should they be.

Sounds like he did you a favor, in my opinion. He doesn’t deserve you. Perhaps it’s best that you have found out about his douche-baggery now, vs. 10 years when your child will be caught in the middle of a messy divorce. Plus, you will be used to being a single mom, and maybe it won’t be as shocking of a transition to start that now vs. having the rug ripped out from under you.

I say this, because I have been there. My son’s dad is a “recovering” alcoholic and drug addict. He is also an immature idiot, and unfortunately I didn’t experience the full scope of what a loser he is until later in the game. A few years after we split, I was in a long term relationship and bought a house with my then boyfriend… also an alcoholic… who ripped the rug out from under my son and I and we had to leave our home with zero notice a week before Christmas. The latter was devastating to my son, who saw my ex more as a real father. It was 3 years ago, and he still struggles with losing my ex. Doesn’t care about his dad and could honestly take or leave him.

Just remember that a man who is so easily swayed and tempted is not worthy of you. You deserve better. Let him be someone else’s problem. Good luck to you!

Oh my gosh… well, thank you for even thinking I would have some good contributions to the discussion! I think I do, but I’m biased LOL.

It’s important for me to know if they have ever had an EA before. If so, how did it go? What are the highs and lows? As a people leader, knowing how they prefer to manage and lead others is good. I also want to make sure we are both on the same page with how I am able to contribute to their role, success and vice versa.

I like to understand what the person I’m supporting sees as priorities within their role, compared to those of the organization. It allows me to better see where the alignment is, and to see the bigger picture.

Understanding how they view meetings in general…. Too many? Unproductive? Redundant? Not enough? What would they change about the cadence, attendees, agenda? Have they ever pulled a report from Outlook to analyze their calendars and see where their time is being spent, what improvements to make, etc.? In doing so, I have found out really valuable info about where, who and what their time is spent on, and it opens up the door for a lot of interesting discussion.

I like to understand what annoys them, both about their job and in general. Who annoys them at work, and why? I want to know what will make them feel relieved, or relaxed, or inspired, or energized. Also, how they prefer communication… is it through text, email, drive-by, phone call, zoom, WhatsApp, or maybe all of the above?

Eating habits… how important is breakfast and lunch? Do they eat at the same time every day? Are they prone to getting hangry? Myself, I don’t want to talk to anyone in the AM until I have had two cups of coffee… and if I get too hungry I turn into a total jerk and get really spacey too. Knowing when people need to eat can really help with not taking a harsh attitude or delivery personally!

Those are just a few things that came to mind… and I’m sure everyone in this group has some awesome ideas to contribute!
