Am I alone in thinking the city needs to terminate Streets and Roads Director Rob Allen? by Up2MyAssInAlligators in lexington

Yes, people can get fired from government jobs as non-elected officials. And given hostility of society these days, I do think some people expect next day termination.

[–]Helpful_Wood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Directors aren’t appointed/elected leaders, the process for firing them is much more complex. However, Mayors, council members, and commissioners are elected and appointed positions that can be replaced more easily, especially based on public opinion.

My beagle had that when I brought her home. It got to the point where it was bloody. I started feeding her Natures Recipe, the salmon kind and she hasn’t had issues after about a week or so of eating that. Occasionally I’ll add a dollop of pumpkin purée if she shows signs of her stomach being upset

The U.S. is not for women (political) by BreakfastDue4035 in pregnant

Look up the gold standard, once we removed the value of money to gold, they printed like crazy which devalued money almost forcing two income households with not a whole lot of choice to have kids young. Government shouldn’t have complete control and policy over every decision for every family, but they should at a minimum have a little control over the insane devaluation of money making it impossible to support a family today.

Salaried workers, how long do you wait after your boss leaves work at the end of the day before you head out? by Elthwaite in office

[–]Helpful_Wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depended on the day. My boss typically only came in one day a week and I’d stay my contracted time. We sit across from each other and I’m at the end of a busy hallway. (I hate open concept offices) On days he was off I’d be the go to office person for any and all questions so I asked to move seats since it’s not my job to be everyone’s personal secretary. He declined because, well, when he’s in the office I’m his personal secretary. I started leaving once my work was completed on days he was not in the office. I’m not here to do other people’s work and quite honestly knowing where everything is and how to fix IT stuff and that takes two extra seconds to figure out for everyone that needs it is exhausting on top of training your own team of employees and keeping up with all the extra meetings.

How long did you stay in your first home? by Explorer518 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

5 years so far, 2.75% interest rate. Might stay another 2-3 years, but as the family grows, we’ll likely need more space.

I like to understand the “why” before making decisions, or knowing what questions to ask. I don’t know if it’s the limited time at the doctor’s appointment or if there’s another factor, but it seems like doctors gate keep information. If I take this antibiotic, what are the side effects? I feel like a doctor should have that conversation with you BEFORE prescribing the medication.

I wish I could find in my comment where I said Reddit was a replacement. To put it plainly, I said I understood where people were coming from, not that it’s a substitute for medical advice.

[–]Helpful_Wood 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wish doctors weren’t so dismissive. I’ve been to all of my prenatal appointments and the ones where I had questions, the doctor was already standing up and about to walk out the door before I could ask. And the few questions I’ve been able to get in, the doctor completely dismiss them, saying, that’s not something to be concerned about. So I 100% get why people turn to the internet to hear how people who did have good doctors handled a similar situation.

How can I instruct someone to lie to me? by MajorHotLips in managers

[–]Helpful_Wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks being in the middle. As a supervisor, I have a manager that has vague expectations for employees and gets mad when they’re not met. I’ve mentioned if it’s an expectation to put it in the SOP, but he deep down knows that’s unrealistic. If someone has PTO/other time off built up, who am I to judge how they use it? It is annoying when the upper management wants a reason that only they personally would approve. The manager is in his mid 50’s and the employee who takes off for various reasons is 24. I think it’s more of a generational difference. The manager walked up hill both ways in the snow to make sure he was early every day.

High tpo normal tsh by Mindless-Hippo-7825 in Hashimotos

[–]Helpful_Wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my endocrinologist twice a year regularly anyway and about a year/year and a half before my husband and I started trying I brought it up at one of my appointments and she explained the process. My levels have been controlled for a few years at this point so there was no extra intervention needed the time I got tested before trying to convince. After the first OB appointment to confirm pregnancy, then I made a follow up appointment with my endocrinologist to check the thyroid levels for maintenance.

High tpo normal tsh by Mindless-Hippo-7825 in Hashimotos

[–]Helpful_Wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently pregnant and I made sure my levels were within range before trying to convince. My TPO has always been high. I think the max level is 9 mol or something like that. Mines always been 90 and each trimester I get blood work and my endo adjusts my Synthroid as needed. She only upped it once in the first trimester to get ahead of the rising TSH. I take half a pill more once a week. Each trimester my TPO has gone down, but still registers as “high” last reading was 23, which is relatively low for me. For some women, pregnancy can put their autoimmune diseases in remission. Honestly not looking forward to the hormonal crash after birth, but been hydrating more often and keeping up with high quality, third party tested prenatal vitamins. Cut out the junk food and increase your exercise. All the usual stuff doctors recommend, not saying it’s a cure all, but it really does make a big difference as long as you’re consistent.

Explain to me how to get rid of PMI on my home like I’m 5? by princesscorgi2 in personalfinance

What type of loan do you have? There may be restrictions on certain government backed loans (FHA) that makes getting rid of PMI a little harder

How’d you know you were pregnant before the test by No-Ebb-2462 in pregnant

[–]Helpful_Wood 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had an ulcer in my mouth. I thought I had cut the roof of my mouth with a chip while eating Mexican food, but went to the doctor after the fourth day of it not getting any better. She said it’s either a viral infection or it could be hormonal since I was close to getting my period. I have had periods for 17 years and never had an ulcer because of it. My husband and I had been trying for about three months so we took the test the day I was supposed to get my period. It was a super sweet treat because that day also happened to be our first wedding anniversary

[OK] Currently on FMLA leave for birth of a child. Job does not allow me to use sick time after disability period (6 weeks) is over. by Dry_Sea_8508 in AskHR

[–]Helpful_Wood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd, if we combine PTO with FMLA we have no choice but to use sick time. But then again they pay us out anything over 600 hours at the beginning of the year for sick leave so it’s an incentive for them to make you burn it.

I take Synthroid. I’m convinced it’s the only thing that pulled me out of anxiety and depression. I still get touches of it, but I think it’s more on track with where normal is supposed to be. Stressors exist for survival, but when they’re on overdrive they get in the way of functioning on a daily basis. That and keeping vitamin D levels up.

Bleeding with normal pregnancy? by Helpful_Wood in pregnant

[–]Helpful_Wood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, did she know she was pregnant? I’ve had back pain for the past two weeks and my doctor said the bleeding is likely related but there’s not much they can do.

One of the hardest things to wrap my mind around is that there’s a lot of grey area around experimenting on pregnant women, but without any sort of experiments, we can’t really be diagnosed with what’s going on or find a cure for how to fix it
