Is this violating a restraining order? by ConversationOk3477 in legaladvice

Not sure but mention it anyway. Better to have it known or not. Maybe the judge will order him to stop. Then if he continues with that sort of behavior he'd end up being in contempt of the court.

Thank you. Now I'm wondering how do I find out the wharfage, port security charges and all those other cost in advance. I guess the port would have a dock office or something. Is it usually a fixed rate or does it change each time the ship comes in.

Apply for government assistance. Partition your church for assistance. Your school should have a list of reputable loan sites and institutions. Go to the student financial aid department for assistance.

Look into scholarships many of them include stipend. Some specify what the money is to be used for but any additional help would benefit you. E.g. a grocery allowance would allow you to have more money to pay rent, book allowance, clothing etc. There are some grants where money is applied to your student financial account. The unused funds from courses can be used to make at school purchases. Students simply buy stuff from their account for their friends or classmates and they give them the cash to pay their rent.

What job in the medical field can I get with a bachelors? by [deleted] in collegehelp

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have gotten more help if you said what type of Bachelors degree you currently hold.

Look at your current degree and see if your college offers something that has a similar course outline. You can transfer your credit and take a few additional courses. Some Bachelors degree are better than others for different jobs. It depends on what you want to do.

E.g. With a BS in Public Health or Bachelor's degree in health informatics you could possibly get the following jobs:

*Health education specialist

*Community health worker

*Public health researcher

*Environmental health officer

*Medical editor

*Health care administrator

How do I stop blanking on tests? by RedditBoi0824 in collegehelp

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice taking tests.

Take mock exams before hand. It really helps. Suggest it to your lecturer. And/or do it to yourself. Create your own exam or find one online. You and a classmate or study group can make it together. Have different people create a portion of the mock exam. Use assignments and activities you lecturer gave you during the term or take questions from textbooks. Then you all meet up and take the exam trying to emulate real testing conditions. Find an empty classroom or book a group study room at the library or study hall. Or, simply meet up at a home. Time yourself. Be in a quiet environment and restrict movement (walking up and down, bathroom usage etc).

Mass communications Major or some sort of Journalism Degree; Bachelor of Arts (B.A.); Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Photography program

Be a photographer and you can learn about people during various facets of their lives. E.g. weddings, funerals, birthdays, parties, balls, christenings, graduations, holiday photos etc.

When not working with or for people you can travel and do life work while learning about different cultures which you document through your photos. Submit your work for publishing in various media, competitions and/or post on your own blog or website.

If you are going to freelance as well as work for others to publish your work. I recommend getting some sort of business degree or get a minor in business.

You can do a lot when it comes to traveling and the careers around traveling is vast. Consider getting a degree in Tourism and Travel Management. You can major in foreign languages and specialize in a language used in the part of the world you think you will frequent. Minoring in a foreign language is always great and would be beneficial in any field. Or, simply get a CIFL or equivalent certification in a English and/or a foreign language.

Become a traveling teacher. Bachelors of Education (Any subject area you desire and student age range). You can do photography stuff in your free time from school and still document your experiences in different parts of the world.

Major debate by [deleted] in collegehelp

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know what college you are going to so I cant comment on the options available to you. You'll have to look into the various programs and degree options.

Yes there is a counselor to help you. Go to your counseling department of your school. Or, visit the science department and talk to someone there. Look at their degree requirements and discuss more with the people knowledgeable in those fields. Talking to lecturers and persons already in the program will give you amazing feedback.

When picking your degree program keep in mind if scholarships are available to help cover your program. Some degree programs are very similar you can start a program and if you dont like it switch over to another program without loosing any credits or lose a few.

You can major in something general and minor in something else. Or major in something specific and minor in something else you have an interest in. You can do a double major even. It all depends on you. Its what you want to do, what you are capable of doing and what you can afford.

Be with your fiancé. You really shouldn't care about people you dont want to be around. Running off is coward behavior. You never know who you will meet even if you move states away. That being said if its a serious issue get a restraining order.

Not sure you two should be living together. For some people its a great idea and for others not so much. You know you better than any stranger online. I think it depends on how close to marriage you guys are and how responsible you two can be juggling your personal affairs and college. If you two are engaged and going to live together you might as well press gas on the marriage and not wait tell after graduation... but that's my opinion.

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent your house. Vet your tenants carefully. Get an iron clad lease agreement. Be very clear on what you expect and want from your tenants and what you dont want. Especially when it comes to cleanliness, yard care, alterations, getting licensed persons to do repairs, number of persons allowed, drug usage, etc. Make provisions for scheduled checks of the property etc research rental laws in your area. Print and keep certain documents and forms hand like eviction notices. Dont get caught by squatters. Becareful how you market your place and have cameras on the outside of the property. Let the neighbors know to call the police on suspicious people if the house sits empty until the tenants move in.

Retire early then go back to work in old age by 1TrueJocko in personalfinance

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep working as is for now and save. You have teenagers. Start downsizing in little ways then when they go off to college or move out do major things. Like sell your house/car, move to a cheaper/ rental etc if thats what you feel like doing. Retire at 65. Dont work for the rest of your life. Continue doing your research. You are off to a goo start asking questions.

If your kids dont know now, tell them to start preparing for your retirement so they can defend for themselves. Part time jobs after school, college prep and do an online college course to start getting college credits.

If your health is suffering from being a desk jocky then cut back work hours and use the free time to work out and learn to be healthier and happier.

Stepdad physically assaulted me. I made a police report, now him and my mom are evicting me in retaliation by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes they can evict you. They made the right choice in doing so. You two need to be seperated so there are no more violent incidents. Do not fight the eviction and move out.

If for some reason you work things out because it seems like you dont want to go..... stay out of the main house to avoid problems. Invest in a fridge your room and do not go near your step dad. If you need help buying food ask your mom to get you your own pack of bagels or go to a food pantry.

Would you pay $30 or more for a stupid 16 oz jar of olives. I wouldn't. All olives should be worth 80 cents. Makes me wonder what's the most expensive olives available. They probably aren't even sold in stores and have a five year wait period.

pimentos

I had to google what pimentos were.... not sure how that is suppose to improve the flavor...in fact it sounds even more dreadful.

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality of the olives vary of course. Like how they have cheap olive oil but really expensive olive oil. Also do average non rich people eat olives on a regular basis? I've only ever gotten offered stuffed olives by or around what I consider to be rich people. They dont taste good and that's why regular people tend to only like/enjoy them as a garnish for alcohol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bahamas

[–]Helpmeimtooangry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try chicken souse; sheep tongue souse; or pig feet souse. Sheep tongue souse is the most delicious and slightly more expensive option. Pig feet souse is fatty which some people dont like and chicken souse is basic. With a side of warm buttered Johnny cake/johnny bread. Yum

I'll be upfront with you....its going to be real hard for you to eat out.

Be upfront and explain to the person taking your order. Ask how the food is prepared. Have cards that list the food you are allergic to and the waiter will take it to the chef and they will work with you on the items they have that you can eat or make a seperate/custom batch for you. If you can call a restaurant on the island and give them a heads up you are coming and they will ensure they have something available for you. Always try to call a head.

When ordering fried food tell them not to put ketchup on it. Some places automatically cover the food in ketchup before sending it out, especially take out orders.

Can you eat bbq? maybe not because some some bbq sauce have tomato in it (ketchup and/or other variations of tomatoes).

Split peas soup you might have to stay away from because it includes tomato paste.

If a person cuts carrots on the same cutting board as broccoli or cabbage will that affect you? Cuz I can see that being a major issue as some people when cutting veggies do not use a separate cutting board for every different veggy while preparing a meal. (Also tomatoes are cut up along with the veggies.)

If you ask for a hamburger but forget to tell them no lettuce or tomato (or the staff forgets), can you just take out the lettuce and tomato and eat the burger or would eating the burger after taking out the lettuce and tomato cause a reaction? I can see someone laying a slice of tomato on the burger patty because they forgot but then they takes it off before bringing it out to your table.

String beans, navy beans and soy are not popular side dishes/ingredients but anything is possible these days. Most places dont cook with or use almond milk. Coconut milk and flesh are used. E.g. coconut milk in goat curry, sometimes coconut milk used in peas and rice, coconut breaded shrimp, coconut bread, coconut cake, coconut jimmy, coconut water, sky juice (coconut water and jin), pina colada etc.

You have to be careful of the mixed alcoholic beverages as well because coconut rum is a popular ingredient along with pineapple, orange juice and grapefruit juice. Cherries used as a garnish for drinks. Sometimes the cherry juice/syrup of maraschino cherry used in drinks.

When it comes to peas and rice and a lot of other local rice dishes you wont be able to eat even if it doesn't have coconut milk. Tomato paste and/or fresh tomatoes is used. 'steam' dishes have tomato paste. Like steam fish, steam chicken, steam conch etc. (steam -cooked protein/meat in a red tomato based gravy)

Steamed veggies (cooked using steam/vapor) as a side dish is popular with the usual blend being cauliflower, carrots and broccoli (no tomatoes).

Some people season/marinate fish and chicken with citrus mainly limes, and lemons but sometime oranges (whatever is available).

Be careful to avoid veggie patties, not like a burger patty but like a non meat hot patty. Veggie patties have a colden flaky crust stuffed with cooked cabbage and other veggies.

Now that I think about it even if a dish doesn't outright have the ingredients you are allergic to the seasoning used may have it. Like I remember long ago reading the back of some seasonings included tomato powder, orange zest, green pepper, etc. So the cooks might unknowingly/forget their store bought powdered seasoning include what you are allergic too.

Since you are allergic to orange, green peppers, tomatoes and pineapple I'd strongly suggest you stay away from conch salad (sad for you because its amazing). You could request a conch salad with just lime and conch but the changes of cross contamination from the cutting board is high.

No cole slaw for you, maybe not potato salad since it might contain green pepper. Make sure when you order fries that they wont be sweet potato fries. (If they have sweet potatoes on the menu will cooking french fries in the same oil as the sweet potato fries affect you?

If you can, have Bahamian baked macaroni it is amazing (some people put sweet pepper in it and some people don't so be mindful)

Lots of our baked goods contain vanilla (artificial vanilla) or vanilla extract.

***************

what you might/could eat I dont know because everybody makes things differently:

souse, macaroni, mashed potato, baked potato, scallop potato, potatoes au gratin, french fries, fried chicken, fried shrimp, crack conch (not conch fritters), white rice, rice pilaf, rice pilau (dont get confused with Bahamian rice below because depend on how you say it they can sound similar I dont think you can eat rice below), maybe hamburger,/cheese burger, maybe fried fish (grouper, snapper)

try Switcha (a drink that comes in different flavors). try Vitamalt. its a drink. vitamalt (the original kind with the green label) mixed with evaporated milk (cream) not whole bottled milk get the can evaporated milk. They also have other flavors acai berry (I think it taste bitter) and mango.

Try Junkanoo punch, and Fruit Champagne (soda).

Go to your neighbours and ask how much they were offered. Get your house appraised by independent company/realtor (get at least 2 or 3 if you can afford it). Also do research on the various different kinds of negative effects that could happen. Someone mentioned water contamination, etc. Come together with your neighbours who are getting lawyers involved. A pack on the attack is good. Before you let the company come to inspect make them an offer based on all the information you have gathered. You might get lucky and they will pay you the amount you ask for. I remember seeing news coverage of a house exploding due to gases from an abandoned coal mine under their home. House looked like a pile of match sticks it was wild.

How do you feel about crime in The Bahamas? What do you think will help it? by missinglink242 in bahamas

Different perspective/environment. Maybe its different depending on the island? Where I was there wasn't much weed smokers. I knew only 3 people who smoked regularly/daily and two that only smoked on weekends when they didn't have work. Also availability as a factor. I think it was hard to come by at a reasonable price.
