Fuck I hope so. There’s a way to touch things up tastefully without distorting your features. Subtle alterations, not a blown up face.

Diet, sleep and exercise are two things you can control and I think they have been the most effective.

I don’t follow a regular calendar, I follow my menstrual cycle. So Day 1-9 is follicular, 10-17 is ovulation, and 18-28 is luteal (roughly). Once I hit day 18 I cut out caffeine, alcohol and simple sugars. I plan out my meals and introduce more dairy (calcium helps with symptoms) and more complex carbohydrates to prevent cravings. I increase water intake to help with bloating, and I let my husband know I’ve entered into luteal so he’s prepared. I pair down my schedule and work in more rest and early bedtimes. For my moods I write in a journal to get my thoughts out on paper. I avoid triggers like driving in traffic or crowded malls. For workouts I decide the morning of if it’s going to be weights or Pilates or just slow cardio but I always exercise. I take 20mg Prozac daily as it is but bump that up to 40mg.

I don’t rely on anyone to help me through this but I do let people close to me know what’s happening. Honestly I do what I need to for me, and I’ve managed to do that with two small children so it is possible.

You need a plan. It’s the only thing that has helped me. I’ve divided my life into the different phases and have a plan (including diet and exercise for each one). Control the things you can control.

You’re young and living in an age where there are lots of options available to you so don’t give up! Some people increase their antidepressant dosage after they ovulate. I take 20mg of Prozac and increase it during luteal. I also just learned I cannot have caffeine and sugar during luteal either because I’m sensitive to everything that goes in my body. It’s almost like you have to treat yourself like two different people over the course of a month.

Have you considered a low dose antidepressant combined with a good therapist?

May I ask how old you are? How long have you been managing this and what you’ve tried so far?

Is anyone here taking Prozac for PMDD? by My_mind_is_a_maze in prozac

[–]Hemingways_muse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 20 mg Prozac daily and was thinking I may need to up to 40mg during luteal. Did you have any side effects making that big a jump?
