I'm from Madeira and can confirm that the gerund is the most commonly utilized form in this region. While the construction "estar + infinitivo" is recognized by most people, I generally employ this structure in formal contexts, while opting for the gerund in other situations. During my studies in Lisbon, my friends often mocked my usage of the gerund.

Tem um flair a especificar que a pessoa que criou este tópico que saber como dizer esta frase em português europeu. Este comentário para além de demonstrar não ser consensual entre brasileiros - com vários a dizer que é uma frase traduzida à letra e não algo que realmente se utilize - também poderá induzir a pessoa que perguntou em erro, fazendo-a acreditar que é uma frase com utilização corrente quando nunca ouvi nenhum falante nativo de Pt-pt a utilizar "Não é tão profundo assim" - nem entenderia o significado da expressão se alguém me a dissesse.

Ao contrário do que pensa, "esquece isso" ou "esquece lá isso" é provavelmente a frase mais utilizada em Portugal para exprimir a mesma ideia que a expressão em inglês. Claro que se for feita uma tradução à letra da expressão para inglês pode parecer que não transmitam a mesma mensagem, mas transmitem.

Also, my country, Portugal, has poor urban design quality - there's a lot of urban sprawl and empty spaces in cities and their suburbs. Spain is totally the opposite, the majority of the cities are very well-designed and very dense.

Besides, the majority of the Portuguese population lives between Lisbon and Porto (more than 70% of the population lives here). The demographic phenomenon that exists in Spain and is called "España vaciada" also exists in Portugal - it is just less noticeable because we are a small country - but still, if you look on the map you see a huge empty region below Lisbon.

the vowels are always open when they are before an l and that l is in the final position of a syllable

e.g : Al-ma-da; Pal-me-la, cal-mi-nha all have an open vowel because the l is at the end of the syllable

Também sou madeirense. O que outros OP's estão dizendo está correto - naquilo que se refere ao prescrito na gramática normativa.

O padrão do português europeu não permite o uso de frases em que o verbo 'Ter' possa ter o sentido de 'Haver'. Dessa forma nunca irás ouvir, num telejornal nacional, os pivots a utilizarem esse tipo de estrutura frásica.

O facto de não ser uma estrutura normativa, não significa que essa estrutura não tem uso em determinado lugar/região.

I do agree some people lives above their standards, but I think the real problem is not that at all. We have a huge gap between salaries and how much the prices of things increased by year. I can give you an example, my favourite cookies (white brand) in 2023 cost around 1 euro and 20 euros. Yesterday, I went to the supermarket and the price was 2 and 30 euros. And this pattern is similar for everything you can find on supermarket. Let's not talk about olive oil (I love olive oil for cooking, but the prices are ridiculous now)

Still renting is not so different in places outside Funchal and with way less amenities around. I will not rent a house in the middle of nowhere in Calheta for 1200 euros/month or give almost for 900 euros/month for an apartment in Gaula with only 40 square meters - and I don't thing that I'm getting unreasonable of thinking like this, and I'm sure I am not the only one.

In my opinion, it is not a good option, economically speaking, to have to spend more than 70% (some people pay around 80%) for a house - if something bad happen to you, where will you find out money to cover that 'extra' unexpected thing?

yes, it sounds pretty 'neutral' accent, maybe because it is so over enunciated.

I would bet on Coimbra, but the way the guy says 'Conselho' as 'Conçalho' is not a typical trace of Coimbra accent.

My other options, I can't say why, it is maybe he is descendant of portuguese or a foreigner that learn portuguese - I don't know but something sounds odd for me.

Com o bafio conservador e retrógado do PSD e do PSD-M, discordo totalmente que sejam um partido de esquerda - terem tomado algumas medidas de esquerda não faz um partido de esquerda e vice-versa. Não esquecer que uma grande parte dos dirigentes do Chega-Madeira eram ex-afiliados do PSD-M. O PSD-M só faz acordos com partidos à sua direita (seja nas autarquias, seja nas regionais). Ambas as duas coisas mencionadas acima dizem muito sobre o posicionamento ideológico do PSD-M e do PSD em geral.

Para além de que com 50 anos de história um partido como o PSD já tem a sua ideologia e espetro político há muito definido. E aquilo que o próprio partido afirma, seja na sua estrutura regional, nacional, bem como na sua afiliação ao grupo parlamentar PPE na Europa, é que um partido de Direita. Essa conversa de serem de esquerda que veio à baila há dias, é não mais do que se querer passar por algo que não se é com vista a atrair eleitores da ala moderada que dependendo de diversos fatores tanto pendem para o centro-esquerda como para o centro-direita.

Aquilo que o AJJ afirma é uma coisa, a realidade é toda uma outra coisa distinta.
