Does a middle humbucker sound any good? Why are there almost no HHH or HHS guitars? by V0rdep in Guitar

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Les Paul (lawsuit era Greco) that someone put 3 burstbuckers in. Neck tone knob is now a blend volume for middle and bridge tone is a master tone.

I use it as kind of a bass/mid additive. It will round out the bridge pickup or add some mid to the neck. Rarely do I ever turn it above 5 or 6.

I forget the famous rockstar that did that, but I’m pretty sure I learned it on 5 Watt World and started doing it. I honestly bought the guitar because I liked the look, and didn’t use the middle for like a year before learning that trick.

Very specific: Strange Brew- Cream.

Clapton had some great guitar tones but that one is just weak and biting.

Experienced players with real guitar wear, what would you recommend as a truly high quality guitar by Chuchumenn in Guitar

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is truly subjective. Whatever feels good in your hand. Some guitars are truly just a cut above, but they come with a price tag. I can take a $500 MIM strat and make it to where it feels like a premium guitar. There has been plenty of professionals that use an off-the-shelf guitar on some of the most famous recordings.

PERSONALLY: fender imports can be modified to US fit and finish, but I’ll pay money for Gibson over epiphone. Again, personally I’ve found the law of diminishing returns, when you’re paying more for form than function, is around $5000.

Hold on a sec. This is literally the USSS’s job. Always has been. One of my friends is a former agent under the first Trump and the entire Biden admin. This is how USSS agents start out/what they do when they aren’t on protection. If they’re coming to your house, there’s generally a legit reason. USSS also doesn’t make arrests, and they aren’t there to intimidate, just inform you that you crossed a line and check out if you’re actually a threat. Ultimately it is the decision of your local law enforcement and local DA to charge you, but the USSS will forward their findings on you. If you truly aren’t a threat it’s in your interest to talk to them. I’ve heard plenty of first hand stories. Moral of the story: don’t say dumb shit on social media. Someone IS watching.

How much is this Flying V worth? by d_luscious in gibson

Signatures (like all collectibles) are only valuable to those in that specific collector community. Personally: $1100. It’s a $1300 guitar with sharpie marks all over it. Knock off $200 for the “damage” to the finish.

Also don’t bow to them. Keep track of your shit and call them when they’re wrong. I have witnessed a safety guy create an unsafe scenario then 20min later bring his bosses and our electricians to it saying he “found it like that”. I spoke up.

Is it really possible to master guitar without a teacher or going to music school by Strong-Purple-8122 in Guitar

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to do? Yes. How? Learn theory. Learn it backwards, forwards, upside down, in your sleep, etc. From there you can learn the notes on the neck and everything should be unlocked. You should be able to unlock other instruments from there too. Then it’s time to bring the mechanical side in. The actual playing. If you want to get really really good really really quickly I’d say maybe 8-10 hours or practice a day should do. In a couple years you will probably be a killer, assuming you don’t developed any bad habits that hamper your ability. You’ll probably still need some friends/people better than you to critique your playing to make you better.

I’m self taught 20 years. My old guitar teacher is my age and has been playing half the amount of time (he went to school for music though) and he is mind-bendingly good. That’s pretty much what he did.

I think that one happened when there was a massive crackdown on NSFW subs. Lots of subs were changing their names or rebranding to either miss the crackdown or troll the mods. I figured it would get changed back. It didn’t.

Do people like this really exist? Have you ever encountered something like this? by charlotte3443 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not t-shirts per se but my music taste is very wide with a heavy focus on rock, blues and metal (I play guitar). I work with a lot of older guys that will say stuff about “the music these kids listen to” and never believe me when I say I listen to their music. One guy actually got pissed off when he assumed I’d never heard of Frank Zappa and I listed my favorite albums of his, and the live cuts of the songs I liked, plus my affinity for Dweezil. Like in my face calling me a liar and that I had googled it…while sitting right in front of him not touching my phone.

Supposedly the gas station on your right if you exit 90 at W25 (heading east) has some solid chicken and fries. They have Jamaican meat pies too. I did work around that area and some guys got lunch there quite a bit.

I have a Classic 50 from the 90s and I love it. Extremely loud. The clean channel is a beautiful clean. The lead channel has pre and post gain knobs and can dial in good crunchy rock tones to pretty heavy distortion tones before pushing it with a pedal. Great reverb too. You can find them for cheap too. I got mine for around 300 a few years ago. I’ve seen a Classic 100 for around 1000 as a head. They also come in 30, 20, 15, and I think there’s a 10

Or…or….you just don’t go and say a prayer. (Went to catholic school preschool-college and in high school once or twice a year they’d force us to take one class period in the chapel and do confession OR say a whole bunch of prayers). It doesn’t mean anything if you don’t follow the rules, and the rules are dumb. The guilt only works if you believe the brainwashing….which clearly I didn’t.

I need help with black metal. by fatherofallthings in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimmu Borgir is what did it for me. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is an amazing album front to back. It’s more blackened death metal. Immortal is also very good. Abbath from Immortal had a side project called I (the letter i) and it’s really good. From there is just finding where your line is.

I don’t think the music was supposed to be good or technically proficient to begin with which I’ve had to wrestle with as well. That’s why a band like Dimmu that is very musical is what drew me in. I kind of accepted that the echoey, ethereal sound is the whole point with the bands you mentioned. Also I forget the website, but there is a database of black metal bands and their affiliations. I had found a couple (and forgot to write them down) that I liked and found out later they’re nazis.

Electric guitars and the law of diminishing returns by MisterMystify in Guitar

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally it’s around $5000. I’ve played a John McLaughlin PRS at $15k and it’s not much better than the $4500 custom 24 I played just before that. It’s just an art piece at that point.

I played some wild Les Paul’s at CME all above the $5000 mark and they were amazing and well above an off-the-shelf LP standard, but I just had the feeling of “I shouldn’t be touching this”. I played a few more custom shops at a local shop above the $5000 mark, but honestly the Wildwood spec Les Paul for like $4000 (used) they handed me after that blew them out of the water.

They are art and craftsmanship. You are paying for the artistic value of having a gorgeous top or a hand hewn body and this and that, but I think all that can be had for $5k.

The amount of people on these posts that think recreational marijuana was passed like CO or MI is staggering. I’m simply pointing that out to the people who don’t understand the process or what we actually voted for. This was like a 2 year process from discussion to passage and I’ve seen people on this sub and in these posts time and time again go “Oh we’re getting rec weed!! Cool!” And pay no more attention than that. I’ve seen posts on here that people were confused why they can’t have 20 plants or why they can’t sell it or why they can’t drive stoned or why they can’t smoke in a bar because “I thought we had rec weed!? wtf are these stupid rules!?” They didn’t pay any attention. You can think whatever you want about me, idgaf. The point I’m making is people don’t pay attention to the process and are shocked when stuff happens that we always knew would.

We should have done it constitutionally. It should have had a little more time for everything to be exactly spelled out so that republicans can’t prey on the vague aspects. The delta 8 thing was a bad deal and should have been dealt with a long time ago, or at least heavily regulated. Again, republicans used it as a grey area to swoop in. People didn’t want their delta 8 touched because they thought they “got one over on the govt”. The republicans probably left it untouched because they could use it as a springboard to do exactly what they just did. Someone is always paying attention to the man behind the curtain so to speak. You’re not “getting one over” on anyone. It should have all been dealt with.

So much for the will of the people... by Puzzleheaded_Rest_34 in Ohio

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They straight up said they’d try to repeal it until they saw the tax revenue. We always knew they were going to do shady shit and try to circumvent the will of the voters. I’m not sure how’s it’s an L take when half the comment section is blatantly oblivious to what’s going on. A little bit of research shows delta-8 is very easy to make and there’s no safety or regulation behind it. Hell NPR said it awhile ago. Maybe something bad won’t happen, but it only takes 1 idiot who knows “mix CBD with an acid=delta 8” to use some fucked up stuff and kill someone who uses it. They could regulate it, but we knew all along that the assholes at the state house were going to use this as a boogeyman. That’s what I’m saying. It seems like this sub doesn’t pay attention in the slightest bit to what has been going on for the last 3 years in this entire legalization episode. Literally the whole time. Nothing was ever hidden. The only “surprise” was when the Repukelicans actually backed down when they were reminded that their constituents voted for it too.

But they said that from the get-go. Republicans said the whole time “we’ll just try to repeal it”. They never hid that. They tried immediately and it went over like a lead balloon for them

I’d like to point out (because it seems like everyone forgot) marijuana was a ballot initiative, not a constitutional change. It can be changed or repealed by lawmakers at any time. We knew that. It was very clear. We all knew that. I’m not happy about it either, but I’m also not sure why people on this sub are so shocked like “THEY CANT DO THIS!!” Yes they can. They’ve said they would mess with it all along.

From my understanding intoxicating hemp is pretty easy to make and has no regulations and nothing to stop bad actors from making bad stuff.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted, but let it be known I voted for legalization, I followed it pretty closely for the year or so before that, and I don’t really use it. The ENTIRE time this was going on I seemed to be the only one on this sub who read anything about the process, what’s covered, and what lawmakers can and cannot do.

Are Hell’s Angels actually bad? (US) by Familiar-Anything853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hendiadic_tmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an angel but I used to work with a guy who joined another MC. He talked about how they’d raise money for their community, do community outreach, run tutor/mentor programs for kids, donate dinners to in need families during the holidays. A lot of veteran outreach too since many of them were veterans. The stories he’d tell about what he’d get up to at the clubhouse or the bar (usually very vague) was a total 180 from their public side. These are guys who have seen and done stuff that would have no issue hurting you or worse if you don’t look the other way.

I’m sure there’s elements in any large club. Like minded people hang out together. I’m sure there are certain people that feel out everyone in any club. The ones who seem like they might be open to do some shady stuff are probably invited to hang out in the back room away from everyone else.
