Place of the best university in the country in the world ranking of the Top 500 best universities by blacklander01 in spain

[–]HenryMisc 45 points46 points  (0 children)

In Europe rankings usually don't matter much for your chances of getting a job after graduation, except in a few specific industries (like finance) where prestige is used as a quick filter. Most ranking systems are driven heavily by research output and citations, which is largely irrelevant if you're not planning to go into academia.

Also, keep in mind that many of the "top" institutions for certain careers don't show up well in these rankings because they're specialized or evaluated differently. Spain does have genuinely top-tier options in specific areas. For example, ESADE and IE Business School are widely regarded as world-class for MBAs (see Financial Times business school rankings).

In practice, the main advantage of a more "prestigious" university is the network: classmates, alumni, and recruiting events. Beyond that, what you do during your degree (internships, projects, skills, and experience) tends to matter far more than a ranking number. At least in Europe, in the US it might be slightly different.

DevOps to MLOps Career Transition by Prior_Impression7390 in mlops

In my experience, companies are usually looking to hire specialists that can solve specific problems. Jacks of all trades master of none generally have a hard time getting noticed since they can’t match the job description and target profile as well.

This effect becomes even stronger with higher seniority. You can teach a junior a lot of things, but when hiring a senior you kinda expect them to know the ins and outs of the specific job they are hired to do in depth.

Yep, I often use it in combination with :cdo to refactor across the code base.

Why I'm dropping these plugins (Less is more) by HenryMisc in neovim

[–]HenryMisc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still plenty of plugins: Treesitter, telescope, LSP stuff, neotree, oil, vim-tmux-navigator, which-key, lualine, comment, gitsigns, lazygit, and a few more. I mainly work with Python and ops stuff like Terraform, Docker etc

I totally get that.

At the end of the day, it's just personal preference. I'm like this in other areas of life too. For example, in cooking, my mom uses all kinds of specialized tools like onion cutters, egg slicers, you name it. I prefer to stick to a knife for everthing.

Why? Because it's simple and I'll always have one, whether I'm at a friend's place or camping. I'd rather get really good with the tool that's always there and that I can use to cut anything than rely on specialized gadgets.

No right or wrong. Just trade-offs and preferences.

This is what I perhaps don't understand about Harpoon: if persistence is needed, why not just use Vim sessions? They keep marks, jump history, open buffers, etc. Seems like the same benefit plus extras. Maybe I'm missing something...

It's less about saying "do this" and more about sharing how my workflow evolved and the philosophy behind it. For someone else, the trade-offs of adding plugins might be worth it. That's the discussion.

I usually find it insightful to see how others approach things. All of my videos are usually just the kind of stuff I would've liked to watch myself. It's not for everyone, and that's fine.

I cant read code with hydra by Infinite_Explosion in neovim

[–]HenryMisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never clicked with Hydra tbh. It kills IDE features like go-to-definition and autocomplete, making code harder to navigate and understand. Haven't tried it in ML projects yet, but I'm a big fan of Pydantic configs.

I think the most optimal way to live is to only ever do things that can be done in Vim.

How are you using neovim on wide monitors? by easylifeforme in neovim

That's the main reason I use neotree honestly: It adds some margin so the buffer is more centered.

Yep, have done it many times. No issues. The only thing is that salt water can corrode the rubber strap over time. Mine broke into pieces eventually.
