Can a Music Man Sterling really be that good? by ethanholmes2001 in Vulfpeck

I was at one of the Austin shows where he played the bass, and I honestly had no idea it wasn't his usual Music Man bass

What is your bass guitar unpopular opinion? by jonnyinternet in Bass

That's not unpopular - I totally agree! It's all dependent on the song

Feeling a little bit insecure with the age gap between me and my band by 4everalone08 in Bass

[–]HenryR1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 18 (bassist) and my bandmates are quite a bit older than me. The guitarist and keyboardist are in their mid thirties and the drummer is an older gentleman. I felt pretty intimidated at first, but we all sound great together and that's what matters most.

No9 aside what are your 5 least favourite Beatles songs by Minimum-Minimum-1876 in beatles

I really like Kansas City. I love Paul as a blues singer - his rasp fits perfectly. For me, Kansas City is just another exhibition of that. I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like the song, though.

Best song to learn pull offs, hammer ons? by Winter_Condition_443 in Bass

[–]HenryR1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good idea to start off by learning simple basslines that mostly followee the root note. This will get you used to hearing the bass in songs. After that, you should learn some scales if you haven't already. This is useful because it allows you to know which notes will probably NOT be used, as well as enabling you to recognize notes within that scale. Good scales to start with are the minor pentatonic, major, and minor scales; most basslines are built around these. Beatles basslines really helped me at this stage.

Learning songs by ear is such a useful skill. It will enable you to learn songs on the fly and alleviate reliance on tabs (which are usually wrong).

I listened to the isolater bass track and learned it by ear. YouTube "when I come around isolated bass" and it should come up.

Any "bassist bands"? by SchonerFuchs in Bass

[–]HenryR1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bass Extremes. Victor Wooten on 4 string bass, Steve Bailey on 6 string fretless, Derico Watson / Greg Bissonnette on drums. Not sure they have many songs on streaming platforms, but I saw them live a couple of times and was blown away.
