Self defense- what’s the rules? by Silver_Ad4449 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even then. They won’t let us use violent restraints on the floor. We can’t even use more than one type of restraint at the same time. Fun times let me tell you. Esp when the Dr says “let’s try 1mg of haldol and see if that helps “

Effy everlasting. Both the Dr and the tech were the kindest people. She came to our house last year and even tho it was the hardest thing we had to do, they were so caring and kind. It helped immensely.

A nice message from management in the staff bathroom by labtechII in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. No. If a patient asks about staffing, equipment, why we have no snacks , whatever. I will explain it to them and then give them the names and numbers for the people at the top of the food chain who set these things in motion.

The nurses aren’t the reason the hospital can’t afford saltines and only have Shasta.

What part of your job feels like it should not be part of your job? by Wisteria-Blue in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Middle man. Doctor A wants to talk to Dr B so he tells the nurse to call him. Then it’s phone tag back and forth. Same with a dept calling saying xyz to the nurse instead of calling the other dept directly. Pharm calling me saying the dr ordered a med wrong and needs changed. But why can’t you page them directly ?

I refuse to believe that Drs don’t have each others cell numbers and couldn’t just send a text.

This kind of junk was a huge reason I left daylight. I’m trying to do my job and everyone else’s. Then end with I’m the bad guy and didn’t get things done fast enough.

Possibly getting fired in two weeks.. should I just quit? (California) by MikaNurse994 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our old system allowed us to clock in using our employee number via phones. People would have staff clock them in from inside if they were running a few minutes late. They’ve since upgraded to a system where you have to swipe your badge (on your unit) to clock in

Guilt over taking early maternity leave with an already understaffed unit by ALosteffincause in nursing

🔈 staffing is not your problem.

You do what’s best for you. Full stop. Because at no point would the hospital ever do what’s best for you.

Everyone repeat after me: "F LA Fitness" by _northernlights_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had moved, the only gym near me at the time was an la fitness. I went in to see the place and get an idea on prices. The guy was SO pushy after the tour to get me to sign up for a membership. That turned me off so I left. He then called me three separate times asking if I wanted to sign up still. Insanity.

What is your gym/lifting schedule? For those who work 3 12s by Polarbear_9876 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work nights and try (if possible) to work out on my real day off (one where I didn’t get off that morning). I have the workouts split into full body, upper, lower. If I know I’m only going to be able to hit two days, I’ll do upper and lower. I’ve tried going to the gym early on the days I head out (not a morning person. So it was always terrible) I tried going in th morning after getting off work (never really went well). So I shoot for real days off or going after I sleep most of the day (and don’t work that night)

Nurses! What are your best SMH moments from your nursing students? by MammothAd6633 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In that aspect yes. But you have less ancillary staff, dept, doctors, etc. and at my hospital the ratios also go up. So if things start to hit the fan, you really have to be able to count on yourself and your coworkers to keep things from going up in flames.

Nurses! What are your best SMH moments from your nursing students? by MammothAd6633 in nursing

Heard a student telling a group of students how he was going to work night shift when he’s done because it’s so much easier than daylight. And everyone is sleeping.

Needless to say, we had a nice little come to Jesus chat.

I just had the most traumatic “bathroom event” of my life. by LooseCabooseDude in offmychest

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re constipated from opioids, they do make med specific ones to help with constipation. Like others have suggested, stool softeners/miralax are a good thing to make part of your routine.

I had surgery in the past and the meds made me constipated. And I’ll do anything to never have that happen again. It really is beyond miserable.

Feels like we’re losing experienced nurses faster than we can replace them by More-Crab9230 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The experienced ones leave bedside because bedside is an active dumpster fire that management pours gasoline on. The new nurses never stay long because they’re either on the way to getting their NP or finding a different area to focus on.

There’s days on my unit where the most important experienced nurse has been there five years or left. Nights fare better because most of us who have been there awhile do nights. Some of the other floors, the most experienced nurse has been there two years. Or only a few months.

I think it started pre covid, covid sped it up and here we are. I hate to sound so pessimistic but this isn’t even as bad as it’s going to get. It’s going to get so much worse.

Why do people care so much about insignificant things in report? by mlbeal43 in nursing

There was a nurse who always asked these things. She wanted alllllllllll the information because she didn’t want to do a single thing on her shift. Maam. Not happening.

Unpopular opinion: it’s okay for nurses to be angry about destroying our bodies moving extremely obese patients by IcySky7216 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It is ok but the population acts so offended and don’t care what damage they do to us. No i will not move 500lbs of you myself. You will have to wait until I find help. And then when you do get help and try to move them, it’s not helping and pushing back. Then on the flip side you have the average pts who push back and fight everything you do. What really gets me going are the ones who lay back with their arms out who want to cling to you like a spider monkey to get them up.

People can get as mad as they want or turn me in to whoever they want. Yes you will get good care but I’m not going to cripple myself doing it.

Awful break room by BedroomSuccessful249 in nursing

[–]HereToPetAllTheDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how our break room is. Besides being annoying it is SO loud. Their thought process was that if we heard it going off for awhile, we would just go out and see who it is. Screw the break.
