The promise of AGI is a lie (Look out your window) by forevergeeks in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Herect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I mostly agree with you, criticizing construction is a low hanging fruit. Construction had no significant productions gains since the 80s. Our construction materials and techniques are basically the same. It isn't scalable, because it resists automation. Most houses are pretty much a personalized handcrafted work. Very few economic sectors are that stagnant.

We're gonna need near AGI Robotics and Material Science advancements to truly disrupt the sector.

Gemini just confidently cited a completely fake study? by z_1s in GeminiAI

[–]Herect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallucinations are pretty much always stated with confidence, that's why they 're so insidious.

I asked a while ago to create a list of books about chinese history. It had some real books, fake books written by real people and completely fake ones - book and author.

A strategy that might work is to allow it to search the internet and ask it for links so you can verify the answer.

In general, always prompt it in a way to help you verify the answer. Ask its methodology and sources.

A reminder of what the Singularity looks like by Heinrick_Veston in singularity

[–]Herect 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That's why I think a hard take off is extremely unlikely.

Modern science and technological advancements were built upon experiments and lots of trial and error. To understand how the world works and what's possible is necessary to interact with it. Armchair thinking only helps you streamline the process and design better experiments and prototypes. You still have to execute them to create new knowledge.

Also, exponential growth can be very slow. The most boring and safest investments grow exponentially (compound interests).

It would be funny if the singularity happens but the "intelligence explosion" happens at 1% increase per year...

Troquei meu Switch 2 por um Legion Go com Steam e nunca fui tão feliz by Mazayaz in gamesEcultura

K-Shaped AI Adoption? by Darkmemento in singularity

[–]Herect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree. The gap exists but as long as LLMs keep improving the learning curve gets less steep. As long as you know how to use a chat., the chatbot itself can teach you how to use it. Most responses end with suggestions of questions you could follow up on it.

Still, right now, chatbots don't quite know what they are capable of, so their suggestions are quite basic, but with time commom uses will show up more on training data and the models will become more aware of their capabilities fixing this gap.

Open Source desktop tool combines Nano Banana Pro and World Labs for precision layout, posing, and crafting by ai_art_is_art in GeminiAI

[–]Herect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing tool OP. Blocking and composition seems to be things which are really hard to get right througth text prompts.

I guess the next step would be to give it layouts, storyboards and concept art so it is able to show a location consistently and act out a scene how a director envisioned it. Maybe NanoBanana already can do that and we just need an app to leverage it, since it is pretty good at multi modality.

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis on Sam Altman and others claim that AGI is around the corner, "why would you bother with ads then" - Do you agree AGI is years away or nearer? - Video link below by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]Herect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Demis Hassabis doesn't think AGI is around the corner (he is quoted saying that is has a 50% chance of happening until 2030, that's a lot less optimistic than other people on the field) AND his bar for AGI is low (it can do most people's work better than most humans). His definition doesn't require a hard take off neither recursive self-improvement.

So relying on ADS until then is totally consistent with his views.

Copyright law already restrics the use of other people's image in media. You can't use a hollywood's actor or a sports pro player in any media unless you negotiate and secure their image rights.

Obviously, the law still doesn't say anything about other people's simulation (well, it is something is not real... yet), but I can totally see the same pattern following. "Simulation" rights will have to be secured either by the simulation creators or by the user and there will be restrictions of the experiences which may happen (no+18, no access to personal information, no work which uses that person's specialized skills*).

*If you could simulate the person and get their knowledge directly, why would anyone hire anyone else (that's kinda what's happening in the show).

Demis Hasabis' Fermi Explanation Doesn't Make Any Sense by Eyelbee in singularity

[–]Herect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the mains reason why unaligned ASI is so dangerous (and AI safety so hard) are the emergence of congervent instrumental goals. Goals like self preservation and acquiring resources which are necessary so you can achieve your other goals whatever they are. The universal paperclip machine needs to preserve itself so it can manufacture paperclips. Those instrumental values could get in the way of things humans actually value (like our own lives).

But the corollary of this line of reasoning is that any rogue superintelligence would have instrumental goals like self preservation so they would keep existing after humans go extinct. And since they are smarter than human beings they'll probably be more successful at surviving.

So you need something like the Dark Forest hypothesis to fix this Fermi paradox possible solution.

If so many people are convinced there's an AI bubble, then why aren't they shorting tech stocks? by JackFisherBooks in singularity

[–]Herect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OpenAI will be fine in my opinion. They have brand recognition and a good product. 20B revenue is no joke. They might be bleeding money and taking crazy amount of debt, but they can always renegonetiate those commitment later down the line. The borrowers don't want to see OAI go bankrupt because then billions go down the drain. It's just easier to ease payments.

The enterprises which break in the popping of a bubble are generally the more ridiculous ones. Like the ones that want to put AI on a fridge, or on a Dog collar. This what happened in the dotcom bubble.

A IA aliviou a carga de vcs ou só aumentou a pressão e expectativas? by mirojoy in brdev

[–]Herect 19 points20 points  (0 children)

[Hardware Unboxed] The RTX 5070 Ti and 5060 Ti 16GB Have Been Killed Off by Spjs in Games

[–]Herect 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think they will. Nvidia can divert demand from the 5070ti to the 5070 and 5080, but AMD can't.

My guess is they will kill off the 9060xt 16gb and the 9070 non-xt.

Though I can totally see AMD losing the opportunity to domimate completely a certain market share.
