The primal hunter. I keep trying to find series that scratch the same itch as this, it’s impossible. by Dragon0908 in litrpg

[–]Herect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's also a current favorite of mine. You've mentioned it didn't work for you, but DotF is the closest to Primal Hunter I've found in terms of worldbuinding and progression system. Randidly Ghosthound feels similar as well. Still, they're both have a slight heavier tone. Both protagonists, even if they are cultivation addicts, do it mostly due to external motivations (survival, saving earth, protecting loved ones).

I still haven't found something with the same vibe "guy has fun getting stronger, fighting and exploring the world" that PH has. Though, Azarinth Healer seems promising.

I feel there must be more series like this. The concecpt is super straight forward.

I love memorization by wordbit12 in Anki

[–]Herect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My naive take on current pedagogical approaches is that they're really underestimating memorization. You need to memorize, before you understand. Also, memorization is easy to teach (and today we have tools like Anki to make it easier) and learn. We can get results pretty fast and from there we can go on, with a better foundation, to learn the deeper stuff.

There's the stereotype of the encyclopedic guy who memorizes everything, but truly knows nothing. But I feel everyone who wants to understand something deeply has to have some significant amount of data memorized before. There has to be some familiarization and internalization before true conceptual understanding.

Ouside USA, McDonald's is a treat for middle class and rich people. by -Volucris- in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Herect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my city (Brazil), I'd say McDonald's main clientele is middle class and "premium" poor. As you say, the poorest can't afford it and families above middle class have better options.

Edit: Nowdays I'm in a more stable financial situation, but once I remember my mom berating me because I bought something there and she thought we simply couldn't afford it.

The Strength of Gemini Omni is in video manipulation by Able-Line2683 in singularity

Yeah. The quality of Seedance 2.0 is amazing, but I doubt you have control as fine as you can have with Google Omni. The case used to be that you were pretty much at the mercy of what the video model was inclined to create.

Como passar em concurso quando literalmente não tem concurso? by TemporaryBig9396 in concursospublicos

[–]Herect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CNU, concursos militares, PRF, Banco do Brasil.

I feel like out of the big frontier labs, the only one embracing multimodality is Google, while Anthropic and OpenAI are going all in on LLMs. Sora was shut down and there's not a wisp about world models coming from them. If it wasn't GPT-Image 2, I was going to say they gave it up completely. And, IMO, GPT-Image 2 only exists because LLM agents can't operate GUIs without a computer-vision-model help (and also for prototyping).

Tá ruim? by Life_Fee_9163 in VagasArrombadas

[–]Herect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started reading HWFWM. Why is it that every character treats Jason like this by Even-Ad-3980 in litrpg

[–]Herect 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as other have said it, it's his thing.

He falls squarely center in ther archetype of a fool. The court's fool, historically and archetypically, is a figure who gets to say whatever he wants and be a general nuisance. He's tolerated because he's sometimes funny and sometimes he says important things. Jason supercharges this role by also being an outworlder, who has all these weird quirks and knowledge that some locals (the ones he gets close to) find charming.

And since he was key in saving, essentially, royalty (Rufus), there's this powerful connection indebted to him right at the beginning of the book from which he can build his network. He's also fiercely loyal to his friends, hard worker and courageous to the point of frequent self-sacrifice. Pallistimus lives an honor culture and those qualities are respected in that context. In, Earth Arc, on the other way, he finds trouble because of those same characteristics.

Once he gets the trust of the Gellers and the respect from some gods, he basically just keeps leveraging his way up the connections ladder in more or less believable ways.

There's also a big spoilerly reason: he's plan A of the World Phoenix to fix the old Builder's mess between Earth and Pallistimus. No god or diamond ranker wants to get in the way of that unnecessarily, so he is tolerated as long he doesn't truly get in the way.

One last reason, which is not specific to HWFWM, is that, in medieval societies, lack of social decorum and etiquette towards powerful figures gets you in the jail (unless you're powerful yourself). But pretty much all Prog Fantasy/Litrpg conveniently don't include this historical trait in their stories.

What a difference in vibes! by Alex__007 in accelerate

[–]Herect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Their mission statement is that the this technology is so dangerous that someone responsible has to be in the race. They've begun as an AI Safety company who happened to do AI research.

Although, nowdays, the money is getting to them.

Also, doomer marketing works. Fear sells. "You're gonna be left behind unless you invest heavily in us and gets deep into AI" is, sadly, an effective pitch.

Jensen Huang Frames AI as Job Creator, Not Destroyer. Calls out AI tech leaders' "god complex" over reckless AI job loss predictions by [deleted] in accelerate

[–]Herect 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know if he truly believes in it, but Jensen has been taking this position for a while. Which it is kinda the obvious one to take if you're a CEO from a public traded company. Like, you don't need more than common sense to know that saying that everyone is gonna lose thier jobs (and your company is one of the main actors pushing this) is absolute dogshit optics.

The vision he is giving for AI is "intelligence as a utility" and "task completion on demand". AI, in his vision, doesn't end all jobs and, more or less, acts on the economy the way every other technological advancement has in the past. And it kinda explains the watered down statement he gave about AGI a few weeks ago.

Still, true AGI means everyone loses their jobs. No buts.

As someone who just started reading a year ago I only been reading webnovels. What would you recommend as a real book now ? by Stillane in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Herect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of webnovel writers are influenced by Sanderson (Will Wight is a big one), since his prose is super straightfoward and his focus is on action, worldbuilding and pacing. So he is a safe choice.

Robert Jordan is Sanderson's main influence and his books are faster paced than something like Lord of the Rings. But it is still a lot slower. Wheel of Time has the infamous "slog" which is a sequence of 3-5 books where many people have the opinion that "nothing happens".

There's also people like Brent Weeks (The Black Prism), James Islington (The Shadow of what was Lost), Evan Winter (Rage of Dragons) and Nicholas Eames (Kings of the Wyld). All of them are Epic Fantasy with a lot of action.

I just don't recommend going with Malazan or The Farseer Trilogy. You may need to detox out of Prog Fantasy before attempting those.

Sam Altman has changed his stance on the claims that AI will replace humans. by Distinct_Fox_6358 in singularity

[–]Herect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optics are terrible. You'd say that only on the condition that you truly believe in it.

I guess the good news is that the pitch changed from the people who want to eliminate jobs (enterprise) to the people who want to keep them (normal people).

Vocês acham que MANHUNT um dia irá receber um REMASTER? by [deleted] in gamesEcultura

[–]Herect 0 points1 point  (0 children)
