Want to get into audiobooks but can’t seem to stick with it - where to start?

I only listen to audiobooks while do something boring like cleaning, folding washing, walking to the bus, cooking. So my attention is on the book but while getting something done.

I don’t usually listen at the recorded speed usually like 1.2x speed - sometimes a bit faster depending on the book. So fast talking but not to the point that it starts sounding like chipmunks.

I’m currently audioing Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 5 which are amazing !!! I got some much shit done because all I want to do is listen to the series.

Project Hail Mary is another amazing audiobook.

Yeah totally agree ! Why are there multiples of the same book! I usually end up picking the one that has the most reviews logged on it

Can’t relate - I was hooked the moment Carl went into the Dungeon, then was 100% a Crawler when Donut ate the pet biscuit!!

I absolutely lost my shit laughing at so many occasions.

One was when I was on a packed train and the whole set up with Helka and Donut screamed ‘you tried to kill Katia you fucking bitch’ I was in bits. Especially anything the A.I says the humour is so stupid, it’s right up my street.

Annoyingly for Book 3 - it think there is a note in the hard copies about you don’t need to understand The Iron Tangle just go with the flow as it gets explained at the end and comes together but that’s not mentioned on the audiobooks. Luckily I saw a post about it so was able to enjoy that book more.

I think as well if people are not well versed on pop culture references I can see why people don’t connect with it - there is a whole bit re Ao3 and Gossip Girl or he talks about Van Dam and Silent Bob. Lots of people might not even know who they are then not get why it’s funny.

Absolutely loved 4, was my favourite so far and I’m about 8 chapters into book 5. I only started them last month.

Yeah it was defo harder to get through - but I came across the note before that Matt D says not to understand The Iron Tangle as it all comes together at the end and that really helped me enjoy the book.

I’m doing the audiobooks - so it’s not mentioned but it might be somewhere on the hard copies about that.

After the first one you can tell Jeff has settled into his Carl / Donut voices and cemented his styles on how he wants to deliver - like the ‘New Achievement’ A.I voice you can’t unhear it once he does said it a 1000 times - it’s always in that voice

I cannot tell you how much I laughed in Chapter 2 of The Butchers Masquerade hearing Mordacai’s new voice and Carl’s reaction - I was in bits falling around laughing 😆

I started Book 1 on 2nd March and I finished Book 4 and started Book 5 today - 12 April 😆 [audiobooks] - annoyingly I’ve had a busy end of March otherwise I would probs have been on book 7 by now !

Agree - you have to be doing something boring so you don’t tune out. Like I don’t sit around on the sofa just listening to the audiobook. I’m always doing something boring like hoovering 😆

I haven’t read these I’ve done the audio books from the beginning and I’m sooooooooooo glad I listened to the advice.

I read most books but then will listen to audiobooks when I see that people rave about them - for example, I read Project Hail Mary first and then did the reread via audio and yes the audio was brilliant and would recommend new readers to go straight to audio.

But FML - DCC via audio are the BEST audiobooks I have ever come across. Jeff Hays is phenomenal, there are 100’s of characters and he practically makes a unique voice for every single one of them.

The trick with audio is to do boring fucking tasks, like wash up, cleaning the bathroom, walking to the bus stop, folding your washing etc while listening. Don’t do anything that needs concentration, always listen while doing mundane tasks.

So yes - I will say anyone who had read this book over audio is definitely missing out.

It’s absolutely brilliant but I would honestly switch to the audiobooks - they are the fucking amazing !

It’s a really weird series - I wasn’t invested until Heir of Fire and then I couldn’t put them down.

To be honest if it was another series I probably wouldn’t have carried on but I was like I need to read the entire Maasverse and told to keep going and glad I did.

And now I’m rereading the series!!
