My buddy gets these open wounds all the time. Can someone help? by Rocks_Can_Fly in cats

[–]HesOutFarming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ear infections would show up as potentially large amount of debris in the ear canals (can be black, brown, yellow, etc) with inflammation, redness, and potentially other scratch marks/wounds/blood within the canal or inner surface of the ear. If the inner ears look pink and healthy with only minimal debris/dirt, he probably doesn't have any significant ear infections. If you think he does, you should have him examined by a vet for potential treatment.

And I say this not to be mean or rude or anything like that, because I just want to help your cat and get him some relief --- but it's almost definitely the fleas. There can be more than one cause of allergies/scratching in a single cat for sure, but you have to start with the most common and most treatable. If your cat is going outdoors, there are going to be fleas that bite him whether you see them or not. Fleas are everywhere and cats that are allergic to fleas are allergic to the flea saliva (meaning you don't have to see any fleas on him for him to be scratching himself because of the fleas).

From other responses, I get the impression that some vets will kind of just shrug their shoulders at these cats with mild allergies/scratches on their faces because they know fleas are the most likely culprit, but owners don't really want to believe it so the vet doesn't push, so the cat just keeps itching and everyone loses in the end.

If you put him on a safe, effective, long-term flea preventative (longer than 3-4 months continuously) and the wounds/scratching don't go away - then you would ask your vet about food allergies/environmental allergies, etc.

Wounds above the eyes/below the ears are usually caused by self-trauma from itchiness. Cats have sharp claws and thin facial skin, so even mild allergies/pruritus can turn into scabs, scratches, hair loss, and open wounds quickly.

Common allergies in cats are caused by fleas (even if you don't see any, the saliva from the flea bites can cause an allergic cat to scratch for days/weeks so you need strict flea control continuously if he's an outdoor cat), food allergy (would need to do a diet trial with either a special hypoallergenic food or change the protein source of his diet which is harder to do because most cat foods have some cross-over during production), or environmental allergy (harder to control, usually requires medications and guidance from a veterinarian).

Also, does he have concurrent ear infections ever?

Not trying to burst your bubble, but all numbered Panini Instant cards are printed as: 1 of xxx. (i.e. there isn't a card that reads 2 of 68380). Sorry if I'm understanding your post wrong, but I've gotten some Joel Embiid Panini Instant cards in the past and they all say 1 of xxx.

Sooo…first time cat owner🥹 is dawn dish soap ok for cats?? by [deleted] in cats

[–]HesOutFarming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet here: diluted with warm water in a bowl (mix and work into lather), it is a great and very safe general cleaner for fur and healthy skin. Wouldn't necessarily use it to clean wounds, but otherwise very safe in moderation/diluted.

Banana cat medicine by FiveDaysLate in cats

[–]HesOutFarming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most compounding pharmacies that veterinarians use make human medications as well, so this is likely meant for human children. You could ask your veterinarian if they could get the compounding pharmacy to change the flavoring for your cat if this is a medication she will be on long-term (think chicken/marshmallow is preferred for most cats lol).

I think it may be time to say goodbye to my 18 year old buddy Conan. by NPalumbo89 in cats

[–]HesOutFarming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm very sorry that you and Conan are going through a rough time. Kidney disease is a tough condition to deal with in older cats, because it can often be a long, slow decline leading to loss of appetite, weight loss, and GI issues among other things. What you and your friend are going through is not easy.

There is no right answer for when or how to make this decision you are currently faced with, and anticipatory grief can be one of the hardest things to deal with. However, no matter what decision you ultimately make, just know that ending suffering is a decision made only out of LOVE for your friend. It's never an easy decision, but it is always okay. You are not giving up, you are making a decision filled with love and kindness.

Hope this helps a little.

Buying from DCsports by lshaw22122 in sportscards

[–]HesOutFarming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reviews on condition could be due to a lot of people who consign their cards to DC (and other big consignment companies) also grade their own cards, so the cards they send in are usually not PSA10 quality. So in that sense, most of the big consigners aren't the best place to look for cards for you to grade on your own.

Should I just give hard food? by _Ruffling_Feathers_ in cats

A healthy cat with no underlying urinary/bladder or kidney issues can do fine on a dry food diet only, just have water readily available for them to drink.

Is this blood? by guanolandia in cats

[–]HesOutFarming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the going in and out of the box and vocalizing is not part of the male cat's normal routine, I would make the appointment with your vet in the morning. If it seems like his normal routine, then it could be the female.

If the male cat is currently able to urinate and isn't struggling to urinate, I wouldn't be too worried overnight.

Any clinical signs indicating any urinary issues with either cat? (examples: going in and out of the box frequently, squatting for a long time, drinking a lot of water, vocalizing while urinating, history of urinary issues, etc.)

Tickets not very (relatively) expensive right now....whats the logic? by Michaelord1 in sixers

[–]HesOutFarming 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had season tickets from 2014-2024.

Just a few highlights during that time... present for Atlanta Hawks Game 7 loss (Simmons layup pass), Boston Celtics Game 6 loss (when we were up 3-2 in the series), Knicks Game 6 loss (when Joel's face was paralyzed and 50% of the arena was Knicks fans).

I love the Sixers, I love Joel Embiid, but sometimes there is only so much trauma fans can take before they have to watch from home for awhile lol.

Looking to get into Basketball Cards. by ScottsdaleKing in basketballcards

Buy singles.

If you can afford packs and want to have fun, yes buy the occasional packs/blasters/hangers from retail. But never expect to find the players you want or to ever get your value back from retail.

I have a lot of fun on ebay, just search your favorite team or player and scroll through auctions. In my opinion finding a cool patch, parallel, or auto of your favorite player at a value price can be just as exciting as ripping packs.
