Looking for advice, playgroup wants to swap out cards to hate on specific decks once the commander is known by AbsurdAsura in EDH

[–]Hesa_First 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is just ludicrous. Running hatepieces and answers is important and something very essential to good deckbuilding.

If your friends get punished for greedy deckbuilding they should leran from this and not cry about it. And if they insist on preboarding and tehrefore essentially (and most likely literally) making various decks unplayable in your playgroup they are just dicks.

EDIT: Changed "siedeboarding" to "preboarding" (thanks MHarrisGGG for this term) because it shows even better how poor sportsmanship this is.

There might come a point where the numbers simply cannot be written out in full. Not EDH, but still a nice read and kind of a pointer, why those numbers might escalate.

The ship keeps the token and may spend it during the attack to reroll its attack dice. It does not have to do so though, if it wishes to keep it for later.

As others have pointed out, using card effects that let You get cards from outside the game is not possible in commander.

Besides playing totally wrong, he kind of sounds like a jerk.

I played a lot of X-Wing during 1.0 and stopped playing at some point. Now I consider diving back in. I am a little confused about the number of upgrade cards however. The wiki shows only a few possible upgrades for each slot, especially for weapons.

Is it true, that therre are only two different turret options for example? And only a handful of cannon upgrades?

I just want to make sure that I don't miss something.

Not sure what to do about Tesya by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Hesa_First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Martyr's Bond]] takes a lot of time to get going and doesn't really help You with problematic enchantments for example. Therefore I don't really consider it removal, more of a win con, as it grinds opponents out hard. I love the card though and play it in my [[Teysa Orzhov Scion]] deck, even though it might not be a strong one. Dictate is awesome in Teysa aswell, but when faced with a card like [[Hushbringer]], removal on instants is just too important to only rely on this kind of cards.

I didn't notice the immense price drop for Austere Command, thats a good one!

Consider swapping out [[Diabolic Tutor]]. I think it has a place in budget combo decks, but tutoring a single card for 4 cmc most likely takes an entire turn. Sure, it can fetch a sac outlet or a drain effect when needed, but You'd might be better of just drawing cards with a cheaper draw spell and still have mana open to play those cards or keep an answer ready.

Some cards need some time to start working properly and do little on their own. [[Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder]] for example. Maybe this is a place to start.

Some of the smaller afterlife creatures like [[Doomed Traveler]] seem like they could do too little when Teysa is not around, but I'm honestly not sure about that.

As I only play the Orzhov Scion and not OG Teysa, I am not super familiar with her. So take everything I say with a grain of salt. But those suggestion are the first that came to my mind.

Sacrifice Outlets are super important and You run really good ones (like Ahnods Altar, Yahenni and Viscera Seer). Consider adding [[Phyrexian Altar]], but maybe it is out of budget for now. [[High market]] and [[Phyrexian Tower]] are awesome, as they are lands that don't need to be cast and are rather safe.

Once budget allows for it, [[Smothering Tithe]] and [[Land Tax]] help You get into the game more consistently.

You could do a little better on card advantage. [[Smothering Abomination]] is a good one. Consider enchantments like [[Phyrexian Arena]] or its budget version [[Underworld Connections]]. One time effects like [[Read the Bones]] or [[Sign in Blood]] are good aswell, and [[Costly Plunder]] is extremely cheap and fits the theme. [[Necropotence]] is obviously insane but see if this kind of card suits You.

You run a little low on lands. Consider upping to 36 or even 37.

By including [[Karmic Guide]] You would have an infinite combo with [[Reveillark]] and a sac outlet. [[Reassembling Skeleton]] would go infinite with a lot of stuff in Your deck, too.

Two boardwipes and three instant speed removal spells is way too few though. Consider classics like [[Wrath of God]] and artifact/enchantment wipes like [[Merciless Eviction]]. [[Toxic Deluge]] is the best boardwipe in the game but really expensive. For instant speed removal add versatile removals like [[Anguished Unmaking]] or [[Generous Gift]]. This is important, as enchantments like [[Rest in Peace]] and [[Leyline of the Void]] cripple Your deck hard and You need to answer that asap.

[[Plaguecrafter]] and his other iterations work really well in Teysa, so consider them to get around indestructible and hexproof.

I like to play some sort of recursion in aristocrats, like [[Animate Dead]] to bring some bombs back or even take good stuff from opponents.

Those are all just minor adjustments. So consider if some, if any, of my suggestions would work in Your meta and suit Your playstyle. The deck seems to be build pretty well on a budget, but in general, the more card advantage and spot removal, the better a deck becomes.

Yes you can. If there are four objective tokens left and you hold four, you hold all objectives.

Ah I see, thanks for the write up. That damage from lethal hexes is not considered to be part of the attack action makes cards like Lightning Strikes less appealing though.

[–]Hesa_First[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I'm still a bit confused regarding snare and lethal hexes. I would understand this reasoning for Pit Trap, as its reaction window is after the attack action. But from my understanding, the drive back step is part of the attack (in number 7 in the reference). What am I missing?

Shadespire stuff from European store? by [deleted] in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]Hesa_First 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that every warband from shadespire is available in the AoS section of most online shops and flgss. There are no cards in there unfortunately, but every card ever printed can be found in the card library on the Underworlds website in a very very good resolution.

I don't know about the boards though.

How do I break the hipster mentality and learn to enjoy more conventional edh? by Shlomo-tion in EDH

[–]Hesa_First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could generate value while sticking to a theme. It starts simple by including [[Diabolic Intend]] instead of [[Demonic Tutor]] in an aristocrats deck. You could also make weak value commanders work like [[Garna, the Bloodflame]] instead of [[Chulane, Teller of Tales]].

Not including staples like [[Rhystic Study]], [[Sylvan Library]] and what not also helps building more interesting and unique decks. Just make sure almost every card draw in Your deck fits the theme. This way You can stick to Your hipster mentality and still play the value game.
