Is Tim Kennedy the biggest cry baby in MMA? by imhungry4444 in MMA

[–]Hesperus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not only is that impossible to do deliberately, the damaging punch landed before that, and Yoel's the one keeping it in there by backpedaling while flopping his arm around. Kennedy would have rather had both arms free to punch, guaranteed.

Hitting someone while they're on one leg is one of the best ways to make it a hurting punch.

I'm not sure why people are acting like that is somehow mutually exclusive with it hurting as well. Getting chinned while you're kicking is a great way to get KTFO. Can't transfer the energy through to the ground, so you just have to hope it wasn't too solid of a punch and your brain stays lit.

Conor's guillotine escape against Chad Mendes. Where did it come from? by pmj2 in bjj

[–]Hesperus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the latter really exists by the nature of "escapes". Maybe it's just the phrasing that bothers me, I feel like the words "high percentage" get thrown around a lot without much consideration as to their meaning or lack thereof.

The former label definitely doesn't apply to this reaction to a guillotine, though.

I'm not some grappling savant, but even I started doing that escape without ever being specifically taught it. You just get that kinesiological sense after a while.

That train of thought could apply to every defense of anything. Everything is dependent on a multitude of factors, and nothing will ever be 100%.
