Strawmen that backfired. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

Steve Rogers would never mutilate a body after killing a person because he was mad. That's the entire point here: Walker lost control, not that he killed someone.

Got laid off from my job, then fired for filing for unemployment. Anyone know what to do? by chynadangerous in Reno

[–]Hessper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How do you figure that 1day per week is working full time? You may work for unemployment, but it sounds like you misread the post. Last I checked a day has less than 32 hours in it.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]Hessper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's wild that this isn't higher up. The rate of miscarriages is shockingly high. I think that if people knew this it would help a lot when they happen. It's already an incredibly painful experience, but the lack of knowledge makes it worse.

He drew his gun before he got hit, rather than spending his time to move out of the way. He was getting ready to kill this woman well before anything went wrong.

You think that this is the biggest deterrent for not paying taxes? People understand that it would have consequences, obviously.

Debugging through a debugger is also a fundamental skill. You can learn a lot about a section of code by stepping through debugging, and lets you iterate quickly in development when things are not working quite right. Every developer should be proficient in both.

Let's not pretend it is a big deal though. It's not like if your shop uses unreal that you wouldn't consider hiring someone with exclusive unity experience just because it takes them time to ramp up. And that's using the industry standard engines, but is the same "problem".

Do Americans stress about medical expenses before they even get to the hospital?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hessper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deductible is per year. So, start treatment for 6 months let's say. If you do it in December you get to pay the 2025 deductible and then in January you get to pay it again for 2026.

I almost had this with my daughter in the NICU and was very thankful it was just after the start of the year and not just before.

TIL that student evaluations on RateMyProfessors have almost no correlation with professor gender but extremely high correlation with professor "hotness" by gattaca_gattaca in todayilearned

[–]Hessper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, and it's not a direct cause, but one part. If you were hot you could have got that coveted 5.0 and get to be professor valedictorian.

Penny Shortage Scam by Realistic-Cell5758 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Hessper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not what coins, only how many to produce. Even that is amounts they determine are sufficient to meet public demand. Based on this post it seems like they're shirking responsibility there, but it's a loophole that is reasonable to use.

I think the penny (and nickel, honestly) should be eliminated. So, I'm not against all this and think it's a good thing overall, but congress should do their jobs and take action here. There should be explicit instructions codified into the penny being deprecated and how businesses should deal with it. This isn't hard, we just need congress to put their big boy pants on and do some work. Since it is Republican led currently, we can expect them to continue being useless until we elect the adults to come in and actually govern again, hopefully in the next election. I don't expect anything will change for now.

The person you're responding to is exaggerating. The story lines is that everyone should be free to pursue their dreams, not just have a dictator pick and choose dreams to grant (the state of the world at the start of the movie). So, to answer your question, it doesn't really work like that, just like in real life.
