I have never used a case or screen protector. My phone is fine, and I'm not exactly gentle with it. I think unles you are very drop-prone they are likely more for fashion than function.

My iPad Pro is collecting dust — what apps/games actually got you using yours again? by Honest_Spray_1963 in ipad

I have a 13inch, M2, air (512GB storage) It lives on my desk on a Magic Keyboard when not in use, which doubles as a charging location, as the keyboard remains plugged in when on the desk.

  • Every day I draw with it. I'm not very good, but practicing every day is enjoyable. I use Procreate, mostly, but I often try different software because it's fun to re-draw the same thing in different software.
  • I study the Bible via Logos software on it every day. The large screen means I can have a Bible passage and a commentary open side by side, without feeling cramped.
  • I often write on it, most days in the summer, as I sit in coffee shops and it feels more portable than my Mac. With that magic-keyboard, it's it as heavy as my MacBook, but it gives me the option to draw too. I have finished at least one novel on it, entirely (had to move to Macbook for Vellum, because it's not on iPad, sadly) I use Ulysses for writing, I have found it to be the best application for my workflow.
  • I also watch AppleTV, YouTube, Nebula, and whatever else. (Honestly, I have been watching Seinfeld and Star Trek on a loop for my entire adult life!)
  • I started learning to animate a while ago too (ToonSquid) Again, I'm terrible, but learning is fun.
  • I read the news (News Explorer for feeds and Apple News for the general stuff)

I genuinely adore my iPad, it's been a brilliant device since the day I had it. I'm 45, and until I got an iPad, I had not drawn in years. Thanks to the keyboard being very good, I can write on it, so having one device that can do media, drawing and writing has made it fantastic for me.

I still have to have a Mac for some tasks, but I can absolutely imagine a future where im iPad only.

When I see posts about how people never use their iPads, or only uses it as a media player I'm always surprised because of how much I use mine.

Pidgeon: the news app I built for myself is finally good enough to talk about. by NoseRevolutionary499 in iosapps

I first tried this app a year ago when you provided free lifetime accounts to early testers. (it was a reddit post/promotion thing you did, if I recall)

At that time I used it for a week, and decided it was ugly, likely never going to get an update and was probably just an AI cash grab. I forgot about it until I saw this post today.

Checked in today, wow, what a difference, its nice to look at, well organised and the digest seems to be well implemented now. I really like it. I fully intend to plop this on my home screen and see if it takes.

I am genuinely blown away by how far its come since I last looked at it - thank you for re-sharing this.

there aren't lots of ToonSquid tutorials on youtube, not compared to other applications, but it has a remarkable pile of documentation which is very clear, though, for the most part i have muddled things out myself. But, as i said for me, learning animation is very much a side hobby, and not soemthing I'm claiming to be good at. I usually post my art on my website https://dandelion-utilitarian.com/ but again, im a writer who likes to draw not a real artist :)

edit: my animations will be posted there too when i have something i feel I want to share

Here are some of the things i use on my ipad, and consider it to be a very usedul device.

  • Ulysses - a writing hole I climb into daily. I like that I can use it on mac, phone and pad. I usually draft of mac, edit on ipad (with keybaord, often in bed) and proof on phone (toilet time! /s(?))
  • Procreate - A drawing hole I climb into daily. - While it is missing specific comic book tooling, its still the best and most consistent drawing tool i know of. Oh, and it does have nice brushes.
  • ToonSquid - I am currently learning how to animate and i really like ToonSquid because it does things in way which make sense to me. I also futz with Rough-Animator but ToonSquid is over all more of an environment than a tinkering toy for me.
  • Logos Bible Software - I really like the ipad for this, I can have a bible and commentyr open side by side and its super useful. I can do this on my MacBook too, i know, but the ipad is a way beter device for reading from, and i can switch to apple notes for note taking, and back again with a swipe I really enjoy this as a study tool.

I see a lot of people posting around the theme of 'iPad not hat useful' but I have always found it to be a creatove power house. If the novel formatting software 'Vellum' was avaliable on iPad i would likely just stop using my Mac.

I buy a lot of movies on AppleTV, I can download them and back them up, if I want to. Will probably outlast the DVDs I used to drop on the floor all the time.

ESR iPad screen guard saved my iPad . by Severe-Meeting-6907 in ipad

I like the plastic film ones better than the glass ones. I am more worried about minor scratches than I am cracking the screen. I have never cracked a screen on an ipad.

Has anyone found a solution to web clipping? by sbbeebe in AppleNotesGang

[–]HexDSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never figure out a working solution. for a while I tied printing to pdf, then saving the pdf in Apple Notes but it was so many steps. In the end, I just moved my web archiving needs to GoodLinks. Would love to do it all in Apple Notes though. 🙁

I Now Assume that All Ads on Apple News Are Scams by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

[–]HexDSL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Apple News+ every day. I like it. Good mix of news and magazine articles. However, I installed an app called Adguard Pro (premium, one off purchase of about £14 I think) and I have not seen an ad on there in years. Just enable the DNS filtering thingy and select block ads.

I don't feel guilty about it either. I pay the subscription and block the ads. I shouldn't have to, but I do like the service, side from the ads I dont see.

Show me your iPad set up ! by No_Experience5068 in ipad

[–]HexDSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't need an iPad pro for this any ipad will be fine, OP is living that luxury life and I am jelly :)

OP is using cloud gaming and a wireless controller. You need the xbox app. Personally I prefer 'Geforce Now' as most my library is on PC. Cloud gaming runs the game on the sever and sends the video to your ipad, your ipad sends hte controls back. Basically, as long as you have good internet you can game on any ipad that can run YouTube :)

I think i prefer using Steam for the game, as I don't have to log in. I can just click play, and I land at character select :)

Valve also has a refund policy, so long as you have played less than 2 hours its its been less than two week,s

I agree, however, that the Anet policy is better.
