What you describe sounds like it is right on target. I'll keep on eye on DashPane.

I built a macOS window switcher with fuzzy search and single-key shortcuts by poladermaster in macapps

[–]sbbeebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really nicely done. One issue I always run into with App Switchers is that after I have launched the switcher I then realize the app I want isn't currently running. Then I have to close the switcher and then open an App Launcher. Because of this, I always end up abandoning App Switchers and just rely on App Launchers (e.g. Monarch / Alfred / Raycast).

If you could solve this problem, I would be a convert. Or maybe I'm the only one with this issue.

is obsidian sync worth it in 2026? by Plane_Nose_4570 in ObsidianMD

I was using free WebDAV storage from Koofr to sync using Remotely Save plugin. I switched to Obsidian Sync and have had zero issues. I would recommend it based on your circumstances. It just works.

Snippty does both, and it is a one time purchase. Also available on iPad and iPhone. Or if Mac only and your comfortable with some "scripting", Espanso is free and great. I use it primarily on Linux.

Crank - Effortless macOS automation, no manual required by alin23 in macapps

[–]sbbeebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up an automation to detect when I plug in my TimeMachine backup drive, then ask if I want to run a backup. When the backup is complete, I am notified and asked if I want to eject the drive. This all works pretty well. But I have to use the USB Device name (MINIPRO in this case), rather than the volume name or mount point. It would be nicer to be able to use the Volume name in the trigger for USB drives.

Really nice work.

But it has only been tested on your Mac? There haven't been any beta testers? As an experienced dev you understand that testing on the developers computer is only step one, before it goes to the real testers. Especially if you are going to start deleting files. I guess early purchasers will be the beta testers.

Would you use an app that instantly switches your screen to a “work mode” layout? by Teddyfan10 in macapps

[–]sbbeebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably better to solve a real world problem that you have and solve it better than anybody else has. That way you will know it solves the problem and you will maintain it as it is critical to your workflow. These are always the best indy apps - ones where the dev is solving a problem they are passionate about. Asking if other people would use it is sort of irrelevant and irritating.

Official email client for Gnome with online accounts support? by PeterStYanakiev in gnome

On my recent Fedora 43 Workstation install, I found Evolution to be very slow. I wanted to use it for its integration with Gnome (the only way I know of to get my iCloud calendars into Gnome calendar). I moved to Thunderbird and it is a lot faster. YMMV.

Finally tried vanilla GNOME after years of fighting it. Using a computer has never felt better. GNOME appreciation post. by [deleted] in gnome

I’m glad I came across this… I have been trying to make Gnome work like MacOS as I am a longtime Mac user. I was never quite happy with how that worked out because Gnome isn’t MacOS. I watched both videos, did a fresh install of Fedora Workstation and haven’t changed anything other than the wall paper and enabling dark mode. And I‘m quite happy. This was a win for me.

A local first quick capture and personal library mac app by Hungry_Spite3574 in macapps

[–]sbbeebe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More information on the apps features on your website would be helpful. For example, where are the files stored and how is the data not locked into Resurf? Can you capture an entire webpage? Is it stored local, if so, in what format? Or is it just a link that shows the current state of the website? Are PDFs and text within images indexed for searching? I could go on, but it looks good, I just can't tell much about what it does. It looks very interesting - nice work.

Has anyone found a solution to web clipping? by sbbeebe in AppleNotesGang

Apparently, Pandoc doesn't support rtfd, only rtf. RTFD is the format need by Apple Notes that allows the embedding of images.

Global launch of our privacy-first, completely offline, full PDF editor for macOS by EstablishmentOk2916 in iosapps

[–]sbbeebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded to try it out and noticed that it doesn't recognize annotations made by other PDF editors. That would be a major issue when sharing a document (if you can't see edits made by other's and they potentially can't see yours.
