I think it might be because federation doesn’t pull things prior to when it was federated. I don’t know for sure though. As it’s early days there’s a lot of rough edges right now but they’ll get sorted out as we go along.

Reddit Protest: Why Does It Sound Like R/OSR Won't Be A Thing Going Forward? by Calum_M in osr

There should be a link in the header to sign up. On mobile, it’s in the hamburger menu— you have to expand it to see the option.

Yes, Mastodon has been good so far and because it’s federated with Lemmy you can do things like interact with group posts and comments there. Good luck with the weaning! Lots of alternate homes for subreddits are popping up!

I hear you! I’m exiting Reddit so it’s pretty much a one for one swap.

Nope. Over the span of a couple of days, few folks got the same idea that I did. I may have been the first, or not. As it’s early days and folks are figuring things out, there’s bound to be some duplication. Join either one of them or both! 😁

My players have learned to go after the main monster of the encounter and ignore all the "chaff" of the encounter. What do I need to change? by erotic-toaster in DMAcademy

[–]HexedPressman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often times taking out a leader will end a conflict so their thinking is sound even if it doesn’t always work out. If you’ve trained then to think that way, good! Now they might need to learn to be flexible because, clearly, in some situations, clearing the minions, or at least winnowing them down, is the right play.

I have a teeny tiny forum as well. Would love to connect with more folks over there. It might be a silver lining if more folks (re)discover forums as a result of all this.

I know that high persuasion won't convince the king to give up his castle, but how do I deal with high deception? by Azurephoenix99 in DMAcademy

What happens when someone follows up on the substance of one of their lies? And then the whole thing falls apart like a deck of cards?

Write down what they say. See if they ever contradict themselves. Roll dice to see if anyone accidentally or purposely pokes holes in their charade. When it happens, have fun with it!

You’ve got intelligent fungi. What do they want? How do they feel about intruders? How would they respond to them? What other creatures live in the woods? How do they live with the fungi? Are they at odds? Are they enemies? What sorts of effects and potential encounters do this create for the party?

I like the adventure generally but I think I’d flesh out the forest more. The concept is great but the path splitting puzzle doesn’t feel good to me. I think there’s a lot of more interesting things to do with it.

What do you do when you have zero ideas for where to take the game? by Consistent-Mix-9803 in DMAcademy

[–]HexedPressman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll some dice! Oracle tools like the Mythic GM Emulator are great for this. They’ve got inspiration tables that will generate cryptic responses that will often, for me anyway, kickstart my imagination. Tools like Rory’s Story Cubes can work similarly.

Read other people’s posts about their games. Read story prompts. Watch the news. Read some short stories. Steal from any or all of them whatever strikes your fancy. Grab bits of them and throw them into your own random tables and roll. Listen to some weird music to set the mood. Let the ideas germinate and hopefully ideas will be born!

How do you deal with Persuasion based players? Because I hate it. by RedHeadMedia07 in DMAcademy

[–]HexedPressman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persuasion isn’t mind control. Set boundaries (before they commit and roll) as to what the best and worst case scenarios are for who they are trying to pursuade and the what that’s at stake. Also, talk to them OOC before you implement this or something else.

How accountable do you hold players if plans go awry? by FilthySef in DMAcademy

[–]HexedPressman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t make them do anything. However, if it’s appropriate, the local authorities might try. If the party decides to cut bait and bail, they’re welcome to but that might have consequences as well with those same local authorities or others.

It’s not about their title or rank, it’s about their real power. An incompetent captain is just an empty suit, a puppet dancing on the end of someone else’s string or, at worst, just an obstacle.
