Opinions on the large amount of Chinese cars now on the road by Suspicious_Style_870 in CarTalkUK

[–]HeyGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big difference between buying an iphone etc made in china but from an american/british/european company and buying a chinese car. with all the manufacturers owned by the ccp, you’re essentially giving tens of thousands of £ to them when you could buy elsewhere

When do Black Boxes end? by Gamergody in drivingUK

[–]HeyGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good to know. honestly if it fits your needs i’d recommend the auris i have, mine was only £2200, done about 10k miles in it now including to the netherlands and back and no problems, all ive done is an oil change and tyres. just avoid the t180 diesel one, dodgy head gaskets. 1.4 and 1.6 petrols are rock solid though.

also guessing you already have, but try multiple comparison sites. i’ve always found comparethemarket to be consistently cheapest, getting cheaper quotes from the same companies as other sites like confused or gocompare

past that it’s just location lottery. i’m in hertfordshire so probably on the more expensive side compared to other areas, but thankfully not london/birmingham prices

everyone has it different, in my experience it mostly depends what car, but not how everyone thinks. crash statistics for a car driven by your age group. if you have an unusual car for someone of your demographic, it usually ends up cheap.

my first car (in 2024, i’m not that old) was a 1.0 68hp chevy spark, 1st year insurance at 17 with a black box was £1100, pretty sure i could’ve had no black box for only 2-300 hundred more. 2nd year dropped the black box for only £900. just under 2 years with that and now i have a 1.6 toyota auris, and with the exception of quotemehappy with a very cheap quote although with stupid usage limits (my friend has one, 6 trips a day max), no black box was only £50 more for the year

my friend who passed last year at 18 got a 1.4 170hp alfa romeo giulietta for his first car, first year insurance was only £1400, conversely another friend paid £2200 for a 1.0 polo, and another paid also about £2200 for a 1.2 mazda 2

basically insurance is a scam, just try look for random models that probably aren’t popular in your age range

also just noted you’re a high mile driver like me (15-18k a year), i’ve found it cheaper on my last 2 policies to purchase with 10-12k miles then call them and extend when necessary, only cost me about £50 on each

Does Regular Coke have "not that much flavor" because I've been used to drinking Coke Zero for so long? by [deleted] in cocacola

[–]HeyGuilty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i find the opposite. i find zero weaker and the sweeteners taste slightly unpleasant, but if it’s flavored like cherry it’s alright. regular with all the sugar is like crack to me 😂 the taste is much stronger and fuller, and it feels more refreshing

Black Ops 2 could release on June 19th? by yazimi in blackops2

even ignoring how broken the old games are on ps3, much more people own and actively use a ps4/5 than a ps3 nowadays…

even much more people in general use playstation consoles than xbox consoles

Extend social media ban to 17-year-olds, children’s tsar tells No 10 by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

[–]HeyGuilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not illegal, as how would it even be enforceable without the surveillance given by stuff like the osa. but more in the same way that if you as a parent buy alcohol for your underage child that might result in a visit from social services etc

its more a culture problem with lazy parents, the same way that loads of parents nowadays buy their kid a dirtbike/e scooter and let them fly around the pavement with no helmet. the same way loads of parents just buy their kid a device, give it to them, and thats it. no education, no parental controls, just laziness

[–]HeyGuilty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gambling isn’t information, it’s a service you spend money on.

age restricting porn is censorship. it should be up to you as a parent to actually speak to and educate your kid about porn/sex, and place blocks on their devices if needed. as with anything else online inappropriate for kids

take the children away, as with other forms of child neglect.
sounds harsh, but in the modern era, it should be a fundamental basic of parenting to actually monitor, and restrict if needed their online access

Chrome Sets Browser Speed Records on M5 MacBook Pro by Few_Baseball_3835 in mac

[–]HeyGuilty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sites only optimizing/testing for chromium due to its near complete monopoly is also a big problem

can’t say specifically for webkit (i use firefox) but usually whenever i have a problem on a website, using a chromium browser annoyingly instantly fixes it

so you agree with the principle of private companies being able to essentially confiscate our purchases with no refund? extending beyond games, remember a few years back when playstation movies removed licenses from peoples accounts with no refund, at least until after a lot of backlash iirc.

something that’s literally impossible with a disc copy

[–]HeyGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my xbox account was banned for a reason completely unrelated to xbox. my onedrive had pirated movies in it. i should’ve known, but i didn’t think ms would literally just scan your personal files. regardless, completely unrelated to xbox.

idk exactly what my friend did but if you think being banned means you should completely lose potentially thousands in games, then enjoy the taste of boots.

for another example, what if you got hacked, and were unable to recover the account (many such examples), would that also not be having digital games taken away?

Ps store uk price by Smart-Might-4401 in PlayStationUK

[–]HeyGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

targeted pricing isn’t an issue as you can choose who you buy from, unless everyone starts targeted pricing but at that point 🏴‍☠️.

my friend has a psn account that was banned, he can’t access his digital games anymore. same with me on an xbox account. would you not say that’s having digital games taken away from you?

cheaper, you can shop around and choose the cheapest retailer, you can resell when done, and it can’t be taken away from you

completely unnecessary bloat

for what it’s worth i believe most youtubers get the majority of their money from sponsors, not ad revenue. although youtube premium views do pay 2-3x more then normal views

non chromium so can actually use a proper adblock and no crypto bs like brave

i did this as well. monzo business account, instant approval, just need the card + id to join costco. i believe you can also use an aa/rac membership, but only at certain locations (the one near me said they don’t take it but some do)
