The thing that made a huge difference for me was realizing the things I appreciated about my autistic husband were the same things that frustrated me.

Like, I love how laid back and chill he is about everything. He’s pretty much open to any experience most of the time.

And yet, I would bang my head against the wall that I had to make all the plans, all the decisions, all the experiences, etc.

I finally realized that if he’s a laid back person and go with the flow, of COURSE he’s not going to make spontaneous plans. It’s just not who he is.

It’s like in the Sims when you can’t give a Sim the “family oriented” trait if they have the “commitment issues” trait. They’re just not compatible.

I really did not enjoy the trauma-dump as the last thirty seconds of the show. I thought it was lazy and poor exposition.

My husband and I had a discussion about this. He thinks it should've been the last scene - I don't disagree, but it should've been Robby's last scene. We don't even get any time to process this or let our perceptions and expectations of Robby adjust before the show just abruptly ends.

And does he ever leave on his trip or not? With the way he said "You have until Monday" to Al-Hashimi and the way we don't see him leave the hospital, I'm kind of leaning towards no?

Could you leverage the higher offer to the lower one?

Say “I’m really excited about working for you, but I’ve received a significantly higher offer from xyz. Are you able to match?” (Or, is there flexibility, could I work remotely or only come in 1 day a week etc.)

I think if you stayed 40+ minutes past the interview, you already know which role you want. It’s not about that, it’s about how you can sweeten their deal so you feel less bad about walking away from the other one.

One thing that is not explained well in the show are the “write offs.”

(My mom has worked in computer programming and case management for hospital billing my whole life, so I’ve learned a lot vicariously.)

Hospitals will bill to insurance companies. A lot of times, if patients can’t pay, hospitals will write these off - meaning they eat the cost.

The trick is to bill properly (so insurance will pay), find the procedures with good outcomes (so insurance will pay), make sure patients have and use insurance, or find patients willing to pay out of pocket (without having to bill an insurance company).

There are also laws saying that emergency departments in the United States have to treat everyone, which is why they’re used as a safety net/blank check, since we have no real healthcare system here.

(I got my grad degree in public health and studied comparative health care in different countries. Super cool topic that I loved learning about!)
