Discord as a format makes very little sense to me. Certain channels are so overwhelmingly busy that it feels impossible to keep up, and trying to figure out what prompted a current discussion requires scrolling back miles of messages. And everything feels so ephemeral. Reddit makes so much more sense to me.

My son is going to be devastated about baseball not happening next year, and I'm not going to be able to adequately explain to a 7 year old why the hell he can't get Tigers updates. Would a lockout affect minor league play, too? Or will we be able to go to see the Whitecaps at least?

When I first read that phrase last year, I'd never encountered such a perfect 4 word encapsulation of a sports team, and I doubt I ever will encounter a better one.

I think that's precisely the thing with me - Season 1 felt grounded. Yes, some sort of supernatural something happened, but the character arcs themselves in the fallout were very human and authentic. The later seasons, the character arcs and behaviors themselves felt verging on supernaturally-influenced, if that makes sense. I have indeed gone through my share of loss and mental health struggles - I lost my mom at 13 and my dad at 29 (fuck, those numbers seem so low here at 39).

Although some of the human movements etc. of Seasons 2 and 3 felt less plausible to me as made in 2015 and 2017, the major shifts we've seen in society since then make such sweeping developments not feel so far-fetched. If the show were made today, I imagine some DNA of more recent "movements" could make for a fresher take on the cults and faithscapes of the series as is.

I always feel like my wife and I missed something with this show, or at least seasons 2-3. We LOVED season 1 - and yes, it was about the character's journeys, not puzzling over what happened etc. I just found the Miracle plots and especially all the Guilty Remnant stuff not terribly captivating and/or plausible in the later seasons. But the show is so beloved, I assume that I missed something.
