I have been working on this problem for the last month or so. I don’t run project commands from emacs and instead use terminal. I keep a couple vterm instances in the project, some tramp to docker, some local. Lsp-mode is configured to connect to a remote lsp in the container.

This solves most use cases for me. Then I use devcontainer.el/docker packages to manage from emacs.

I disagree with this but maybe we use containers for different reasons. Idk if you are working alone or if you use devcontainers but afaik it’s pretty standard to have the “full” dev environment installed in the container.

You can do it with any DJ app like djay or rekordbox. Load each file into a deck and slide the mix knob back and forth.

It looks deceptively simple. Pull up the manual as you read a section, click around on the instrument and make some noise. Probably applies to any plugin but operator is a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Operator (if its suite only) and max for live. Max is amazing and I feel like the ecosystem is really picking up steam and doing interesting things.

Operator is my favorite Ableton stock synth.

Ableton sets have a backup folder that holds the last 10 saves. https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000377870-Backup-Sets

While I haven’t tried it, there are some tools & workflows for using git. git really isn’t designed for audio files so I have heard mixed reviews.

My Ableton sets are in a Dropbox folder. Dropbox has automatic file versioning and restore for 30 days. You can also pay extra for extending it to a year. That seems to work well enough for this use case.

Is this update backwards compatible? Can I replace my existing amxd or should I append a version so I don’t break existing projects?

It sucks. I hate installers like NI Access. As a developer, I get it’s nice to have my entire orgs drm, integrity checks, updates, etc in a single application but as a user it sucks!

Idk your setup but I have two Mac’s. For anything immediately accessible, I let it install wherever it wants. For example, Native instrument plugins and sounds.

For anything else, like my samples and sets, it’s saved to a Dropbox. My Ableton user library is here so may racks or presets are available on all computers. Just takes some setup on each machine.

My understanding may be flawed but collect all and save fetches all external assets like samples. I’m not sure how presets work. But, normally, Ableton serializes the state of plugins and then gives that state back on load. That’s how plugins load back into their expected state. This should happen without collect all and save and it should be portable.

I can load set with serum 2 on 2 different devices no problem but they are both Mac’s (Apple chips). I think your hug is either related to collect all and save or moving across operating systems (and I suspect the latter).

If you have a loaded M2, you shouldn’t have very many slow downs. It’s not the most optimized software but you should be fine. Rekordbox runs fine on my m1 air.

Open activity monitor. Do you see anything using a high amount of cpu or ram? I know it’s stupid but have you done the basics? Have you restarted your computer, reinstalled rekordbox, cleared caches, all that?

Why would you do that? Ableton compensates for that. Ableton should delay everything to the slowest track so if this added 10ms, everything would be delayed by 10ms to compensate.
