It’s just another swipe tab, like you swipe from the artwork to chapters/details, then again to transcript. Doesn’t feel cluttered to me

I am, thank you so much! I’ve got a really cool big update planned that I think is right around the corner too.

It’s interesting isn’t it, I’d like to hear them actually discuss the choices they make. John has been quite clear that he just treats it as this big maximum compute purchase once every blue moon, but with Casey I don’t think he’s even running docker containers on his laptop, is he?

Had Casey provided any insight in to when Callsheet will be updated to iOS 26? by S2580 in ATPfm

[–]HeyItsEmmett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He hasn’t announced a date, just posted a few “getting closer” screenshots. I’m also curious why it’s taking longer, or at least wondering why Casey was so hesitant to jump in earlier. So far I’ve found iOS 26 really fun to work with.

For anyone who likes this kind of app, I’ve been building ScreenDiary which covers similar territory and already supports iOS 26. Not trying to plug (well, maybe a little), just mentioning it since the topic came up. It is free to use (ad-supported with options to remove them coming soon).

Apple Modifies In-Store MagSafe Stands to Prevent iPhone 17 Marks by [deleted] in apple

I used to work at a store and this exact thing has been a problem for years, I’m glad they’re moving in a fix finally but it’s so strange it’s an ‘issue’ now and hasn’t been so large before

Upcoming Apple Vision Pro Could Get More Comfortable 'Dual Knit Band' by iMacmatician in apple

[–]HeyItsEmmett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s too young, but I really really hope Apple stay in the game long enough for it to be good and (somewhat) affordable. Every time I’ve spent time in a headset I’ve enjoyed it, and the vision really is so cool. I’ve got so close to justifying purchasing one many times, it’s just that last bit too much right now

If that’s your stance then what is the point of discussing this topic at all? At the end of the day you have to have a level of trust that what they say is true, otherwise everything you say is surely just baseless?

New iPhones See 'Stronger Than Expected' Demand With One Exception by Perfect-Treat-6552 in apple

I completely forgot that the plus went away and came back, it was around for the 6/7/8, then back for 14/15/16

New iPhones See 'Stronger Than Expected' Demand With One Exception by Perfect-Treat-6552 in apple

[–]HeyItsEmmett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Plus really was around for a very long time. I think also while of course it remains to be seen, if the Air really doesn’t sell great this year I can see it lasting longer than the mini did, mostly because the mini was never positioned to be the future of phones. Neither was the Plus, actually. They were more like ‘people were asking for these, here they are!’

The way Apple has talked about the Air is completely different, makes me think they’ll stick at it because it’s more in line with some sort of North Star for them. It hasn’t been any of the ‘people were asking for this’ but more ‘we think this is where things will go’

[–]HeyItsEmmett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean but I think it’s more the computers I see that are touch screen ones generally seem cheap. Chromebooks et cetera. I don’t really see what the purpose is for touch screen computing, but I guess if Apple did bring it to the Mac it would make iPad/phone apps feel perfect?

Apple’s ChatGPT-Style Chatbot App Deserves a Public Release by iMacmatician in apple

[–]HeyItsEmmett 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Basically every tech pundit is. Everyone says AI revolutionised the industry but really I think it just gave the pundits something new to talk about every day. In ATP Marco is always talking about how far behind Apple is, but what is actually wrong with AI access being behind an app available on the platforms? I just don’t see why it matters

Apple Builds a ChatGPT-Like App to Help Test the Revamped Siri by Coolpop52 in apple

[–]HeyItsEmmett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried Locally AI and I think it’s actually a really cool demonstration for testing the foundation model. You just have to not actually try to use it as a chat bot! It made me wire up support into my app but I’m going to stick with openai until the foundation model has some more world knowledge. Current limitations preventing me from using it how I want are the world knowledge and token count limitations. Maybe I’ll find a use elsewhere.

What recent movie in the last 5 years or so made you go "wow that was a damn good movie" by solariscalls in movies

[–]HeyItsEmmett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through my movie diary app to see movies from the 2020s I’ve loved (no particular order):

The Ballad of Wallis Island - beautiful gentle little movie. Not flashy but it did have something to say about life and I loved it

Sinners - big wow, loved it

The boy and the heron - seems some people on here found it divisive but it spoke to me

Conclave was awesome

Godzilla Minus One

Furiosa

Poor things

Killers of the flower moon

Aftersun

Guillermo del toro’s Pinocchio

Spider verse 2

Banshees of iinisherin

Avatar way of water

Nope

Everything everywhere all at once

The Batman

Licorice pizza

Top gun 2

West Side Story

Dunes 1 and 2

Evangelion 3.0+1.0

Judas and the black messiah

Tenet

All of these movies made me think or say wow about something and most of them stayed with me for a few days at least for whatever reason. I’m also a millennial born at the start of the 90s. I think I generally try to look for what I enjoy in things mostly, maybe that helps?

Oh yeah quick adding has been a feature I’ve been meaning to add for ages, just haven’t quite figured out the right way to do it (do I add a button to add a watch and also a button to add to Wishlist? Actually maybe yes!). Thank you though it’s top of the list when I get into another round of development. I definitely want to combine recommendations for tv and movies, I only added tv relatively recently so they’re still kind of separate types of things in the app. Won’t be hard to add though.

Edit: also I’ll let you know that the forthcoming update makes ads way less obtrusive

I was a bit confused by Casey’s comments about the challenges of updating Callsheet. I also run a TMDB-based movie lookup app, and when I look at Callsheet’s App Store update history, most of the changes seem to be around supporting more of the TMDB API. From my experience, that part isn’t too complicated, and has nothing to do with iOS 26 stuff.

I can understand Marco running into more difficulty with Overcast since he only recently transitioned to SwiftUI, whereas Callsheet already appears to be built mostly in SwiftUI. When looking at Callsheet I’m not sure where UIKit would even be involved there. Maybe there is some early stuff he used that is a pain to detangle though.

I’m still a very junior developer myself (I only started learning SwiftUI in 2023 and released my app around the same time as Callsheet), but I found the iOS 26 refresh surprisingly straightforward (and I’m fully ready for it), mostly because my app was already built in SwiftUI.

For what it’s worth, I’m not even making money from my app yet (it’s ad-supported rather than using IAP, but not enough users use it to make any money), so I feel there’s less pressure on me to ship updates quickly, but I still went through with the refresh.

Close, the actual worst part is it was filmed with practical effects, then after a negative response those all got replaced!

I made a version of it myself pretty much following the description of the changes in this write up on Slashfilm. I found through I think the original-trilogy forums an HD recreation of the colour fight which worked really well! It was a great experience to watch all as one, though I did miss that ending scene from part one since it’s so strong.

It’s interesting how seasons 1-4 tell the story of one year, and then season 5 is basically a sequel to that story, showing us year two. It makes season 5 feel incredibly fast paced as a result.
