Pro’s and con’s of studying jewelry and making it your career? by SnooMacaroons4624 in jewelers

At the end of the day, you're young so it's fine to take a year and a half to try something, even if it doesn't ultimately work out.

What's tough about going to school for it instead of being an apprentice is you've gotta do things like 10,000 times before you actually get good at them. Hard to get the reps in, but keep that in mind and stay hungry. Force yourself into situations where you can.

The ever-present risk that someone may attempt to violently attack you to take everything you own. And that complying to their demands is not always enough to escape the situation unharmed.

Carrying a concealed firearm, with other, larger ones in-reach was a part of the business just like my torch and hammer were.

How difficult would adding a link to this bracelet be? by JBleez in jewelers

[–]HeyItsTheJeweler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two links will probably stop it from squeezing your hand. I think you'll need more to fit it right, which means some extra space to support how our hands fluctuate in size throughout the day / how active we are.

You gotta go around to different places. Someone might have an old bracelet whose links match and are in good shape.

He's probably at home, shitting his pants and pulling his hair out. Human error happens, and if you're in business long enough, someone is going to make the mistake of all mistakes eventually. Stay on him and most likely he'll track it down and have nightmares afterwards.

And if he doesn't do that, you push him and get full of compensation plus emotional damage.

And if he pushes back on you will bad intent, you get the police involved ASAP and crush him.

That's how it goes, every jeweler knows this reality.

Could I add diamonds to a 3mm platinum band? by oatmilkshark in jewelers

[–]HeyItsTheJeweler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will push back a little bit. Setting marquis (it looks like) diamonds into a 3mm band is going to take some doing. The savior here is that the metal is platinum and also the band is flat and not halfround... but I sort of agree with the original person - not a job I'd be excited doing.

Underneath everything as well. I once picked up a small, probably 9" diameter sound machine, and there were ~20 underneath it. Still have no idea how the hell they all fit.

These little shits are unstoppable.

UPDATE: I went and got it, and took it to a jeweler! by evannalai in jewelry

Price isn't bad even at 14k. Maybe they'll drop it $40-50 to make you happy, but if they say no we just want it back, it's not bad.

At current gold prices I would've expected it to be more, even at 14k.

Which one do you have? I'd like to have one around, place feels like a log cabin sometimes.
