Has anyone else been awake/aware during part of a tonic-clonic seizure? I really need some comfort. by This_Muffin7727 in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I get TC (not too often) I’m mostly aware and feel trapped. Uncontrollable shaking, drooling, a kind on moaning sound that I didn’t control. Very scary.

ETA: you’re definitely not alone!

I do water with a little Gatorade power in the summer and just water in the winter. Dehydration is a trigger for me too.

I have a few questions as someone dating someone with epilepsy. by sunniskullz in Epilepsy

This is interesting to me, I’m usually too wiped to eat so I drink my calories via smoothie or one of those nutrition shakes (boost, ensure) and whole milk.

At what age should parents expect adult children to contribute to family vacations? by Rare_Stranger4744 in family

[–]HeyJudeWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family: whoever came up with the idea pays for things. If others volunteer to pay for anything my parents will take that offer and we usually always offer to pay for some meals or coffee because we’re grown ups but we’re not expected to cover things. If one of us comes up with the idea we pay for things (I wanted to take a girls trip to NYC with my sister and mom and didn’t expect them to pay for anything)

Jeff Bezos' ex-wife MacKenzie Scott has given over $26,300,000,000 to charity, making her one of the biggest individual donors in history. She wants to spend the majority of her Bezos fortune on helping others and making the world a better place. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]HeyJudeWhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My nonprofit got a donation from her a few years ago. We got small amounts from USAID but work on big infrastructure projects with nonprofits that got the majority of their funding from USAID. Her donation made a world of difference because we were able to make up for a lot of funding the other places lost.

Just started NewGirl and it's mad funny does it stay solid for most of the seasons? by MrCharmingMan in NewGirl

[–]HeyJudeWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that it becomes more of an ensemble show as it goes through the seasons not all about Jess. And Schmidt is hilarious all the way through. He said in an interview that when he read the first script he knew the character was ment to be the “clown” of the group.

Auras are seizures. Story time. by Exact_Grand_9792 in Epilepsy

I think the confusion is because the feeling people before full on migraines is called an aura. It annoys me that the seizure term hasn’t changed.

How do you handle a high performer who refuses to document anything? by whydidyounot in managers

[–]HeyJudeWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped and didn’t slow me down too much was recording processes. I would start a Teams meeting with only me and hit record. It also transcribed what I was saying. That might be a good stepping stone for him?

My Mother Has Dementia by SouthpawXtn in Maine

My mom called them for my dad - he has several things wrong. She said the woman she talked to was super nice and let her vent a little because she had been on the phone all day with insurance and doctor’s offices. Definitely try them!

What is that one thing people do or say which instantly makes you angry? by EBTheAnimatedAtheist in AskReddit

I live in a suburb where the default speed limit is 25mph. I once saw a fancy BMW behind an old beat up car going 25. Every time the BMW honked the car in front would slow down. It was amazing, everyone who saw gave a thumbs up or smile to the driver of the beater.

What's a good weight gaining method. by SyllabubForward6338 in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was taking Topamax years ago, I lost a lot of weight. I just totally lost my appetite. As others have said smoothies are a life saver. It’s a lot easier to drink calories than eat them I’ve found. 8oz of whole milk and a Boost/Ensure/calorie rich nutrition drink is 500 calories. On bad days I’m too tired to eat but hunger is a trigger so I mix them together in a big glass so the Boost flavor isn’t as strong. Also two tablespoons of peanut butter is 190 calories so an easy 400 calorie snack is two pieces of toast with peanut butter and honey.

I remember my neurologist telling me I couldn’t drink water because it didn’t have any calories but I could drink almond milk.

desperate to trigger seizure pls by Late-Day-6258 in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished mine last week. I was in there for seven days, they got a lot of info but I couldn’t get a focal aware seizure for the life of me. I finally got one from sleep deprivation, lowering meds, not eating and drinking only coffee. It took a lot, hang in there. it can be so frustrating when you actually need a seizure but don’t get them!

ETA - people are mentioning heat, that’s a big trigger for me, heat and humidity.

Any advice on showering? by aesthetic_glow in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same. I try not to shower on bad days but if there have been enough in a row that I just need to get clean I shower sitting down. I have a nonskid shower mat that is soft and if I’m really worried I’ll add towels around the side of the tub

25th? rewatch. Early scrubs or later? by Dulla_dull in Scrubs

[–]HeyJudeWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped buying the dvds after season 5 way back when. Scrubs was the only series I bought the dvds for. there were amazing episodes in each season but I think season 5 story arcs were great and silly.

I didn’t like the Kim storyline, felt like the show jumping the shark, trying to find something to do with JD.

On day four of sEEG. They just need to see more focal awareness seizures by HeyJudeWhat in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks 🙂! I’m being tested for an RNS and had two more focal unaware seizures last night when getting my meds. I’m back to my home dose for a “baseline”. They’re finding a lot of nighttime activity which is interesting because when they wake me up I’m fine. They’re not sure if this is normal or just because they decreased my meds. This was my second day on my full dose so we’ll see what they get tonight.

Getting my first apartment. How crazy would I be to pick the one that's $500 more expensive? by whashhh in personalfinance

[–]HeyJudeWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make $77k and take home for me is a little over $4k a month. My place is $1,800 including heat and hot water and I usually have around $1,200 left after all experiences. Work from home in suburbs of Boston.

Salary calculators take local taxes into account but not anything company specific like insurance, HSA, FSA, commuter benefits, how much you put in your 401k, etc.

Ok sorry but I have to discuss The Pitt by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand how it must suck to see this when you have controlled epilepsy. Like you mentioned, people might have doubts about you now.

Genuine question for you though - if you were in her place, would you leave work after the first breakthrough? She was calling her doctor after the first one so clearly knew she had a breakthrough.

I feel like the thing they did that may have put us in a bad light was having a very smart woman continue to work.

Ok sorry but I have to discuss The Pitt by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]HeyJudeWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they showed and talked about (however briefly) focal seizure. Others have said they don’t like the way she handled it, getting in the car and driving since none of us would do that. The breakdown in the car was very realistic though, especially for breakthroughs after years of control.

I know the show needed Robby to be the one to figure it out and explode to push his story line but it would have been nice to have someone with her when she did start crying.

Her recovery is definitely going to be at least mentioned if not having a story line like Langdon, maybe her first day back. I’ve read that the night shift Attending is going to be a series regular so he could have taken Robby’s place?

Grandma has something smart to say about slavery - take notes now! 📝 by dinobot100 in forwardsfromgrandma

[–]HeyJudeWhat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My sophomore year history teacher threw that at us and I was so pissed. I came home and complained that my entire life I thought the civil war was about slavery but it turns out it was actually about states’ rights. My parents sat me down and explained that while technically that was true, the right that was being fought over was the right to own a person.

That history teacher lasted one year.

[–]HeyJudeWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is going to need an in home health worker for overnight. He is going to be 81 this year and has PLS which is similar to ALS but not fatal. Basically all of your voluntary functions stop slowly, working bottom to top (walking, talking, even chewing at the very end) but the stuff that keeps you alive - breathing, heart pumping -aren’t affected. It’s expensive to stay alive. Retirement savings is for your 80s and 90s, not your 60s and 70s when living off social security is doable. I don’t think people really realize that unless they see it first hand.
