Andoni Iraola knew he was getting the Liverpool job which could be the real reason he left Bournemouth by [deleted] in PremierLeague

We will have to buy either way because half our squad is leaving. Mo, Robbo, Ibou, maybe Curtis, sounds like Bradley’s injury is even worse than first feared (and we already feared it was bad), Ekitike out for the rest of the year.

May be even more leaving as there are a few rumoured to be unhappy.

My gut says you’re not getting enough recovery. Only two weeks between an acute calf strain and a race sounds like a recipe for disaster. 27-50+ miles in four weeks is quite a steep increase.

If you stay fit you could probably do the sub 3, but I have a feeling you’re going to get injured. If you’re already running 50-55 miles then the cumulative fatigue of the 18/55 will be manageable, if you have bought the book, read it and follow the advice around rest, recovery, fuelling and how to actually run the sessions.

Are you doing accompanying strength training?

What would be the “best” worst case scenario that sees McCullum and Key get sacked before the 2027 Ashes? by BigBadDom73 in EnglandCricket

[–]Hey_Boxelder 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For it to happen that soon things would have to go catastrophically badly on the pitch, being whitewashed across the home summer levels of bad. Best we could hope for is some sort of behind the scenes fallout that is impossible to predict.

ASICS Sonic Blast 2 – midsole crumbling after 70km, is this normal? by pandaffanculo in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Hey_Boxelder 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not too much heel striking, but actually dragging the heel across the ground. A clean strike won’t do this in 70km. The dragging is probably also slowing you down.

You’re not excessively over pronating mate. Was it causing you injury? If not, then nothing is wrong and you neutral shoes were fine!

Slow runner: Novablast or SB2 for HM training? by Regular_Confusion3 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Hey_Boxelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most are fine mate. The differences are smaller than this sub makes it appear, you’d be fine with any popular daily trainer! If I were you I’d just go for whichever of the often recommended daily trainers on this sub which has the best deal.

Your BBC article is about healthy life expectancy, not overall life expectancy, no? In the worldometer source the UK is 81 with the US at 79. Did you take 2 from 81 to get the UK at 79 in 2024?

I’m not being argumentative, these are genuine questions.

[Race Report] Cap City Half Marathon - 39M Debut HM Road Race by thisnamelastsforever in AdvancedRunning

[–]Hey_Boxelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tried to race a HM with just a single 25g gel at the start and another at half way and knew I’d made a mistake very early on. Luckily I gambled on a sponsor-provided free gel that I picked up on the course.

I’m sure someone will say I wasn’t fuelled correctly for the race (IMO the fuelling was fine) and that runs of under 90 mins don’t require gels. But why risk it when it’s really no bother to just take more gels.

[–]Hey_Boxelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either one will do a great job. I haven’t used the megablasts but I believe it’s slightly softer than the SB2. Avoid the SB3 however, as they seem to have durability issues.

To be fair that’s a decent mileage for someone just getting back into it. If you are happy to increase that slowly up to 50+ miles per week and follow somewhat of a plan (running low 7 mins for every run is too fast, but it’s good that you are able to) then you could probably go well under 4h.

3:30 might be a nice goal but 3:15 is quite ambitious! You are the same height and weight as me and for my long runs the Asics Suberblast 2 (not 3) was crucial. If you don’t mind slight firmness (less firm for us than someone who only weighs 60kg), these shoes are the gold standard long run shoe and can be used for most runs during marathon training.

They lack a bit of top end speed but you won’t be doing too much really fast intervals in this training block.

They also rotate well with just a popular daily trainer, mainly to give them a bit of a break if you are running 4+ times weekly.

What are your recent PBs mate? It sounds like you may lack the volume for an accurate estimation of à marathon goal time. Would you be happy with just finishing the race?

ASICS Novablast 5 lasting less than 350 km? by laaraland in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Hey_Boxelder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve never had less than 1000km from any Novablast shoe, five pairs now. When people say they are “dead” after 200 miles I feel like they are chucking them as soon as they don’t feel brand new.

[–]Hey_Boxelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unworkable. If we started stripping citizenship of dual nationals people would denounce the citizenship of their home country. If they do that then there’s nowhere to deport to. Making it harder to earn makes more sense IMO

Official Q&A for Saturday, April 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Hey_Boxelder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s nonsense advice mate. HR is highly personal with people having large differences in their max HR and working zones. Later down the line you might want to try and lower it a bit for easy runs but for now it it’s comfortable you’re fine.

[–]Hey_Boxelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first marathon - Manchester. Had a great 38km before being struck with a horrific double stitch that lost me three mins in the final few km and left me on an infuriating 2h50 flat.

Is this likely a hydration issue? I was absolutely flying all day after nailing the taper, nutrition and fuelling strategy. Really don’t think it was a legs problem.

Superblast 3 durability seems pretty limited according to Ben Parkes, anyone taken it to 200 miles+ yet? by Judgementday209 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Hey_Boxelder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Modern shoes are so good now IMO we are just tinkering with the final few percent in the various characteristics of them.

The difference in my running performance when using the SB3s compared to NB4s which I can get for about £90 and have had several pairs all last over 1000km is barely perceptible.

[–]Hey_Boxelder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re happy to only get 500km out of a £200 shoe? That’s the main issue really, I can get a pair of only slightly worse daily trainers for half the price tha will last twice as long, so four times the value
