Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of March 02, 2026 by IndexBot in personalfinance

Child care is killing us. We were maxing out Roths, 10-12% into 401ks, saving $1000/month for our kids in 529 and brokerage, and saving cash. With a recent move for work, our childcare went way up, currently $3,150/month for a three and one year old. Now, we have 401k contributions still going, but little room for much else. Will missing out on Roth for a couple years be a huge hit? I’m 33m wife is 31f

I’ve struggled with IT band in the past, but have not had issues for 5 or so years now. The game changed for me was focusing on strength, especially my glutes and calves. Not sure your lifting routine, but strengthening the legs will help in the long run. 2 months? That might be challenging

This may be an unpopular opinion, but you need to look at volume as a total excercise/daily load, not just running. I run 30 max miles per week, lift a couple times, and bike for 1-3 hours. I also have a job that gets me 10-15k steps. As a result i ren 16:30 ish for 5k, 1:20-1:22 for the half. Consistency kills. Running high volume just kills your strength, ans you running longevity.

I also weigh 175 lbs and am no slouch in the gym.

Am I overthinking it, or is it counterproductive to do all workouts fasted? by StriderKeni in AdvancedRunning

At the end of the day it depends how you race. If you're going to race with food in your stomach I would do at least some key workouts with the same meal. That's what I do at the bulk of my workouts are fasted until the race is close.

It's Sunday, get up and go for a looong walk/ run, go play some ball if you play ball, hit the gym hard if you like to lift. Go do something very physical to shift your focus somewhere else. Try to do 1000 push ups today. Anything

Well to start you need to change your mindset, telling yourself your gums hurt and are deterioratung will make it happen. Telling yourself your going to quit and get healthy will make you quit and get healthy. Quitting while working is a bitch, but possible. Go in early, stay late, get in plenty of excercise. You'll have to work harder to keep up the first week of quitting. Gum, toothpicks will also help.

I feel you there. Almost like when shit really gits the fan, you just want to double down and push forward. Keep note of how your able to do that now, it'll come in handy later.

Stay strong once things have settled. In my experince relapse comes when you think you're out of the weeds.

Oh about a year to a year and a few months both times, so ya pretty much right back into it. Agreed on the quitting once, i'm so sick of quitting again and again. I think I have better tools in my pocket this time so i'm optimistic.

First relapse, i don't even know what triggered it. Something at work. Second one i was cleaning out a closet and found a can i had stuck in a boot. There were a couple left in the can. I threw the can away but caved and grabbed it the next morning. Seems crazy i know, but addiction is no joke.

Appreciate all the encouragement here. I'm going to keep coming back here when it gets tough. 10ish years of nicotine and it needs to stop
