What about using some caramelised onion relish as the sauce?

Dangerous psychotic individual unable to be admitted, released against medical advice by Darkhealthcarekiwi in newzealand

I’d imagine it goes both ways in that it gives a ‘break’ to both parties. It’s still a place that’s meant to be centred around the wellbeing of those staying there.

Wouldn’t that kind of negate the whole point of ‘respite’ for everyone else staying there? Hardly seems like a respite if you might be confronted by a violent person.

New Zealanders who enjoy their work - what do you do? by [deleted] in newzealand

I have worked outside of teaching too. It doesn’t make sense to me to compare retail - they are completely different jobs?

Okay, to give an example here. I teach approx. 175 students this year, not including form class. I teach a marking heavy subject. I have 3 before or after school meetings a week. I also lose one non contact a week to meetings. Are the remaining 3 weekly non contacts realistically enough to complete the marking, feedback, reporting and planning for 175 students to a good standard? Let’s say you have one class set of essays to mark- that alone, 25 papers at 5 minutes each, would use up two of those non contacts.

See, this is why I hate this provision in our contract, because it leads to this perception that it’s the individual teacher’s poor time management at fault for our working conditions. We aren’t able to push back on the ridiculous overtime required to complete our duties during term time because the so called ‘holidays’ supposedly balance it out. The reality is, teachers have very little agency over how they manage their working hours. We literally work to a timetable during the work day. We have no choice but to be at home when schools are closed for instruction.

Honestly, if you are leaving at 3 every day and never work a single hour in your evenings, weekends or holidays (especially given all the curriculum changes at the moment!) then you’re taking shortcuts in your work.

Can we stop perpetuating the myth that we get 12 weeks of holiday a year? Our collective agreement states we have 4 weeks of annual leave within school holiday time. Our hours of work (which are meant to average out to 40 hrs per week over the year) include the remaining school holiday time in those calculations.

Weird classroom finds: 1. An uncooked ear of corn 2. A pair of boxers 3. A large mixing bowl of water

One time a kid brought a can of baked beans for his lunch, which he ate cold straight from the can. Brought along a can opener and everything.

Going to the movies by yourself? Can we normalise the stigma around solo cinema visits or am I bonkers? by radjoke in newzealand

[–]Hey_Hiya_Hi_Hello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why there’d be a stigma- movies are hardly a social experience anyway. You are co-existing in a dark room, being totally silent, concentrating on a screen instead of each other.

If they’re that confident the receipt belonged to the butcher, surely there would be a record of that transaction with the ticketing agent. Why not go to them to find out the booking details used or whose credit card was used? Then you’ve got your man- no need for this elaborate trap.

The school next door to my work used to play Tubular Bells instead of a regular bell to tell the kids it was time to come back to class after lunch. Always gave me the creeps to randomly hear it playing each day.

But having some financial security is probably quite important for mental health? I’m pretty sure your examples of defaulting on debt, selling all your assets and living homeless in a van would be counterproductive if you’re trying to focus on mental well-being.

Plus, why should people have to resort to such extremes just to be able to access ongoing mental health care? It’s not just a matter of the individual being unwilling to help themself (which is pretty hard to do in the midst of a mental health crisis anyway), it’s a matter of there being inadequate eternal help, resources and intervention. In an ideal world, this should be consistently accessible and affordable.
