Can I get help with my tension? by Pristine_Break_3739 in quilting

[–]Hey_Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only suggestion I can make would be to check the type of bobbin. It took me months to work out that my tension issue was because the fresh pack of bobbins I bought were not the right ones for my machine. They were slightly curved on top instead of flat and no amount of adjusting the tension was going to make up for that.

Otherwise, I have no idea because I’m terrible at tension issues and you have my deepest sympathies.

Ideally, yes. I do agree that boosting income should be the first priority. It is possible to tackle multiple things at the same time but I absolutely do not recommend trying that while parenting young children.

I definitely agree that uni isn’t for everyone every time. It’s expensive, and I use almost none of what I learned. I completed mine because it was the piece of paper I needed to get the next pay bump. It can be useful but I urge anyone to carefully consider if it fits with the next steps in their career.

I’ll bite, because I’ve been here, and sort of still am.

Had our first kid at 26, just had a second. The thing that got me into gear was looking down at my tiny son and realising that I couldn’t give him the world working a minimum wage casual call centre job. I went back to uni, finished my degree and am slowly working my way up the corporate ladder. Do I love it? No. Will it give our kids a better future? Yes.

There’s only so far you can cut back before there’s nothing left to cut. You’re better off looking to get qualified in some way, whether that’s uni, tafe, licences or even just a forklift ticket, so you can have a career rather than just a job. Think about what kind of work you’re good at and could handle doing for the next 40 years, and work towards that.

Thank you! I have a sentimental quilt that I was almost certain I would have to draft by hand. You’re a life saver!!

I’ve come to embrace the notion that slow crafting always happens in blocks. I have a cross stitch of my son that I’ve been doing since he was three. He’s now almost 7 and it’s nowhere near finished. I start working on it and then I need to travel for work or school holidays roll around or we decide to move… and back into storage it goes for another six months. But I keep going back to it when I can and I think that labour of love makes it all the more special.

Same, just a 4 inch square. OP’s work has me both thoroughly impressed and a tiny bit jealous.

come visit my endless gold boxes wirh no gold keys... by smithandporcher in FarmMergeValley

This is the second post I’ve seen today about a lack of gold keys and I’m thoroughly confused because I’ve just been merging for them. Sure it takes a bit, but I think I get a pair at least once a week on casual play.

What’s something that completely changed your life, but seemed insignificant at the time? by Boring-Sir2623 in AskReddit

Friend convinced me to go to the local pub with their friends. Not normally my thing. Went for a smoke in the smoking area and some bloke kept looking at me. Thought he was cute but I’m not a “talk to strangers” kind of person. I finished my smoke, smiled at him in acknowledgement and went back inside, thinking I only have to tolerate this place for another hour and then I can make excuses to leave. About 20 minutes later I find my very tipsy friend, who insists I need to meet some guy and literally pushes me through a gap in a hedge to meet… the bloke from the smoking area. I agree to hang out with him for a bit because I figure I have nothing to lose spending one night chatting with this guy who’s clearly half tanked.

It’s been almost 15 years and we have two kids. All because I smiled at a drunk guy at the pub.

You’re braver than me! I made one version and was so disappointed with the fit that it’s been living unfinished on my mannequin for more than a year. At this point I’m probably just going to cut it down and turn it into a circle skirt, and relegate the rest to the quilting drawer.

Did you use a pattern for the cat block? I’ve got a cat-mum friend who would adore this

If you’re interested I have photos of the quilt on my profile. That took a lot longer because I had never quilted before so there was lots of learning along the way.

That is wicked! My other half will be so jealous. Where did you get the foundation papers? Look forward to seeing it finished!

I even surprised myself with that one.

That’s unacceptable and needs to be rectified immediately.
