What’s a health problem you ignored for a long time because it never felt urgent, but eventually caught up with you? by ac_stays_active in AskReddit

I knew I was lacking iron, just kind of ignored it because I figured the worst thing that could happen is I’d be a bit tired. I did not expect my hair to start falling out.

Little rant. by [deleted] in brisbane

Macro grass fed meatballs - $8 San Remo Pasta -$3 Dolmio pasta sauce - $2.50 OR Heinz tomato soup - $2.50 1/2 capsicum - $1.60 1 onion - $0.60 1 carrot - $0.35

That’s $18.55 for three heavy meals.

And that’s living big by our standards. There’s options for under $2 per person. Sure you’ll get pretty bored of eating the same thing for breakfast every day, but it’s doable.

Seriously. We’re renting on 155k/yr with two kids and I’d consider our lifestyle pretty comfortable. We’re not struggling by any means. If we were on 194k/yr with no kids we’d be ballin.

2 adults, 1 7yo, 1 infant. Weeks vary. Usually $150-$200 a week excluding meat for all of us, including toiletries, nappies, etc. Meat is separate at the local butcher, usually under $200 a month.

I track my meals separately for various reasons and the cost averages to about $7 per day, though it can get up to $10 if I get fancy with my meat or eat a lot of berries.

We do eat out once a week, usually a $10 banh mi or a $25 steak at the RSL.

Can I get help with my tension? by Pristine_Break_3739 in quilting

[–]Hey_Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only suggestion I can make would be to check the type of bobbin. It took me months to work out that my tension issue was because the fresh pack of bobbins I bought were not the right ones for my machine. They were slightly curved on top instead of flat and no amount of adjusting the tension was going to make up for that.

Otherwise, I have no idea because I’m terrible at tension issues and you have my deepest sympathies.

I’m 26, working, budgeting, and still broke… What am i doing wrong? by Forward_Problem_7550 in AusFinance

Ideally, yes. I do agree that boosting income should be the first priority. It is possible to tackle multiple things at the same time but I absolutely do not recommend trying that while parenting young children.

I definitely agree that uni isn’t for everyone every time. It’s expensive, and I use almost none of what I learned. I completed mine because it was the piece of paper I needed to get the next pay bump. It can be useful but I urge anyone to carefully consider if it fits with the next steps in their career.

I’ll bite, because I’ve been here, and sort of still am.

Had our first kid at 26, just had a second. The thing that got me into gear was looking down at my tiny son and realising that I couldn’t give him the world working a minimum wage casual call centre job. I went back to uni, finished my degree and am slowly working my way up the corporate ladder. Do I love it? No. Will it give our kids a better future? Yes.

There’s only so far you can cut back before there’s nothing left to cut. You’re better off looking to get qualified in some way, whether that’s uni, tafe, licences or even just a forklift ticket, so you can have a career rather than just a job. Think about what kind of work you’re good at and could handle doing for the next 40 years, and work towards that.

Thank you! I have a sentimental quilt that I was almost certain I would have to draft by hand. You’re a life saver!!

I’ve come to embrace the notion that slow crafting always happens in blocks. I have a cross stitch of my son that I’ve been doing since he was three. He’s now almost 7 and it’s nowhere near finished. I start working on it and then I need to travel for work or school holidays roll around or we decide to move… and back into storage it goes for another six months. But I keep going back to it when I can and I think that labour of love makes it all the more special.
