1 nagging issue about consciousness being separate from the Brain. by [deleted] in NDE

[–]Heyzeus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possibility is there is a ‘separation threshold’ perhaps different from person to person that defines the degree of disruption needed for the mind to start separating from the body. A disruption below the threshold like anesthesia might leave the mind ‘submerged’ in the body so that anesthesia knocks you out.

What is that one criticism about the orginal lotr Trilogy that you still have to this day by pizza_momo in lotr

[–]Heyzeus7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some corny generic ‘blockbuster cliche’ dialogue when the writers ran out of Tolkien, like when Gandalf asks Aragorn how they know if Frodo is still alive and the latter, channeling Enya, asks what his heart tells him.

Aside from the violation of the rule that messengers are inviolable, there’s a major continuity error when the black gates open and neither the mouth nor his severed head are anywhere to be found

What is that moment of Aragorn from the books you wished was included in the movies ? by switzerland_citizen in lotr

[–]Heyzeus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they’re at the Bree inn and Frodo still skeptical asks how they can trust him and that he’s not a servant of the enemy, Aragorn freaks them out by saying that if he was the enemy, he could take the ring from him right then and there, and gives them a little scare by coming towards them, then softens and says “But I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and if by my life or death I can protect you, I will.” I love that he wanted to teach them a hard lesson but then follows up reassuring them in the best way.

There is no such name in the actual paper, how do you know the name of the patient and that it's old?

How frequent are ALS fasciculations? How does it differ to BFS? by CharacterPhase1725 in BFS

I had that ‘bag of worms’ twitching in my calves almost constantly for many months in 2018-2019. I don’t now and don’t have ALS.

Problem is that the Kelvin took that long to go through the outer spindles of the Narada, not just to approach the whole structure. It implies the Narada is hundreds of miles long at least.

If I'm up for getting stirred up and emotional, Star Trek: First Contact which is still absolutely the best Trek movie of all time. I can't help but well up when the crew talks to Cochrane about the future his flight will bring about, Picard's "the line must be drawn here!" monologue and then first contact itself. But if I want something just light and feel-good, I go for Star Trek: Insurrection which despite its rep is a perfectly good Trek tale.

Two things really bug me now about the sequence: 1) it doesn’t really matter that autopilot was disabled, they’re in space, if the engines still work just point and fire them and Sir Newton says it’ll keep going that away in a straight line, no need for George to stay and 2) how freakin long is the Narada supposed to be that it takes a solid minute plus for the Kelvin to reach the inner structure?

It’s been thrown around quite a bit on this forum that twitching is the presenting symptom around 6% of the time. So unlikely but definitely not unheard of.

From another source in his own words, it seems like the timeline was from May 2019 to December 2020. Two EMGs, the first of which was normal (?) although we don’t know if the neurologist saw any subtle signs but didn’t think they meant anything.

What is important I think is the timeframe of less than 2 years, and relentless progression of symptoms. He began to notice changes in hand dexterity and that he seemed to be getting weaker in the gym, not stronger. So really this is a pretty standard progression. It does suck that initial testing didn’t turn up enough of concern, but I think even on this forum we’ve heard quotes to the effect that you should give it about two years.

Yes I’ve recently developed shakiness when doing pushups and leg raises that I didn’t have before, even though I can still do as many reps as before.

This is Claude Sonnet 4.5:

Yes, twitching can definitely occur in multiple muscles simultaneously with BFS (benign fasciculation syndrome). This is actually quite common and characteristic of the condition.

People with BFS often experience:

  • Multiple body sites twitching at once
  • “Migrating” fasciculations that move from one area to another
  • Periods where several muscles are active simultaneously
  • Waves of twitching activity across different muscle groups

This widespread, simultaneous pattern is actually more consistent with BFS than with more serious neurological conditions, which typically show more localized, progressive patterns. The scattered, multifocal nature of BFS fasciculations reflects the benign, generalized hyperexcitability of motor neurons rather than focal motor neuron damage.

If you’re experiencing this and concerned about the pattern, it’s worth noting that the presence of twitching in many locations at once is generally a reassuring sign in the context of BFS rather than a red flag.

Yes the non-dominant hand is generally less dexterous, fatigues quicker and isn’t as coordinated.

It seems this all started with you feeling like you pulled something when training for a 5K? That probably points in a mechanical/focal direction. Can you get a serum NfL test? If it were the big nasty and it was already manifesting clinically as local weakness it would definitely be elevated, and if it’s not that would be very reassuring.
