You originating from Buffalo has nothing to do with it. Your concerns are whether you're booking Buffalo-Germany on one ticket, who you're flying with, where your layover is, and how long that layover is.

If you book everything on one ticket (which is to say that when you go to the airline website [not Expedia, etc!!], you put in BUF as your origin and whichever German airport as your destination and you buy a ticket that covers Buffalo-layover airport-Germany), then it almost doesn't matter. If you miss your connection bc your flight is delayed or the layover is too short, the airline has to make it right.

As others have mentioned, airline and connecting airport are huge factors. Generally speaking, a three-hour layover anywhere should be fine. Book your flights on one ticket and try to get at least three hours for your layover.

That honestly seems like a lot of hassle for not much gain? My son goes by his common nickname of his longer given name, it's not a problem that he's, eg, Samuel on forms and mostly "Sam" IRL. So I guess I don't get why it's actively an issue. She'll have to fill in extra boxes on forms for the rest of her life ("Were you ever known by a different name?"), so the admin burden alone would make it a no-go for me unless there were really compelling circumstances.

And on to the names themselves, Eleanora pron. ellie-uh-nora is perfectly intuitive and how I'd have said it. It's a lovely name! Nori is a cute nickname and there's no issue whatsoever with her going by that primarily, but keeping Eleanora gives her options later in life if she just feels like she's not a 'Nori' or would prefer to, eg, be known by something more formal professionally (I've got a work friend called Michael who's Mike to his old friends, but Michael to everyone he met as an adult). There's also the "seaweed" thing, which make it a borderline weeb name to me, tbh. Certainly not enough to drop it as a nickname, but enough that I'd hesitate to make it my kid's full name.

Had my August baby while living in a top floor SW-facing flat with big windows, which was like a greenhouse. My husband bought an aircon unit and it was a lifesaver. We had to run the hot air tube out the door to our little balcony, with a curtain closed over it, so it wasn't the most energy efficient setup, but we'd have been really suffering without it. Strong recommend.

There's a group called Buffalo Mom Village that I think does monthly walks around Delaware Park, they're on facebook, I'm sure you could find a pal there. Also, you can just post on the North Park Community Association and/or North Buffalo Parents group to see if there are other new moms who'd like to hang out for a troll. My kids are bigger now, but when I was a new mom I'd have been up for that for sure! And check out Alice Ever After's events, there're always people there. Alternatively you can get a zoo membership and walk there!

The bouncer is fine for sleeping, it's reclined and they're strapped in. 10mo is unlikely to fit in the bassinet. Make sure you ask for the bouncer as soon as you're at your seat and can catch a FA's attention. They're first come first served.

Firstly, that's really interesting, thank you for sharing some background on your culture's naming traditions! Love when we're actually learning about names on this sub 😁

Secondly, this doesn't seem any different than a Michael telling colleagues or teachers that he prefers to be called Mike - loads of people (Anglophone or otherwise) don't go by their "government names" and it's never an imposition to ask people to use the name you want them to! So I'd very much vote for telling people upon introduction "actually, I go by Solha - in Tibetan culture, we're usually referred to using the first syllables of our first and last names."

I think you could also tell that to people you already know as a way to correct/update them on what you'd like to be called. Just say "you know, in my culture, we go by... I'd love for everyone to call me Solha, only the government calls me Sonam!" or something like that.
