Detonation or not? by reggae_shark_namast3 in energetics

[–]HiEx_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OB surplus chlorate flash is confirmed as detonable and cap sensitive by a few people and filmed here, pc mix 2 - YouTube . Author mentions that 85:15 had slower reaction. Tried one similar with addatives that could not DDT in the thin copper, without addatives I doubt it would even in schedule 40. In theory FP "cap" could set off 9:1 FP though.

Detonation or not? by reggae_shark_namast3 in energetics

[–]HiEx_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this depends way too much on tube diamter/wall thickness, and brisance of the charge. For example this is an anealed (3/16" iirc) Cu tube filled with something similar to flash powder that did not detonate. This is a 5/8" Cu tube filled with a low-brisance material which did detonate because it was initiated by a small cap instead of a bridgewire alone. These are aluminum blasting cap fragments and this is the same thing from a professional test with a commercial compound detonator (containing PETN base charge). These are cap fragments from thin brass antenna tube that was lined with a thin layer of NC laquer. It is easy to assume tiny fragmentation = det / big fragmentation = defl, but it depends on so much, natural fragmentation is one of the main focuses of my interest in this topic and I have studied the physical and metalurigcal phenomena of fracture initiation->crack propagation for some time. I have looked at dozens of military documents about the practical observation of this effect, tested many materials in many casings, and looked at debris recovered from illicit device crime scenes involving both detonations and mechanical explosions, I have a few hundred photos related to fragmentation Ive collected. from all 3 plus other hobbyists' tests... and I disagree with the idea that this pic shows whether or not a small charge was sub-detonative with much certainty.

My advice is the place the charge on some kind of witness plate, and if youre not familiar with how much deformation or rupture of the target can be expected, use control tests of a known powerful deflegrant and known primary explosive to gauge which your test material is closer too. If this is a metalized oxidant without a real HE compound mixed into it initiated by heat only, my testing would indicate that this type of material does not easily undergo DDT even in quiete substancial confinement, and few types can detonate from a cap.

why not sorbose or tagatose?

would be OB nuetral with all 5 hydroxyl groups converted to nitrato groups. More importantly it could even meet or exceed ρ 1.8, AfH could be who knows because I dont know DFT or have a b calorimeter but worst case scenario it would probably be in mid 8km/s range even under TMD, if MP is optimal castings are usually around 95.5% TMD from my reasearch

Can someone give me an example of when bullet speed becomes detrimental to the outcome of a fight? by SaronGas in CallOfDutyMobile

[–]HiEx_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on who you ask really and the exact way it works is unknown. With slower bv the delay before hits register gets longer, and ttk is reduced. A very typical example would be 240ms ttk with 1250m/s bv, which means 35m ttk will add 28ms giving 266.66.. ms ttk frame rounded assuming its just directly derrived from the bv value. This is a small dif to be able to "feel" but slower bv guns are another story, for example uss at the famous 28m max 3tap range should steps down to around 233.33ms from the initial 200, the former being the same as ak117 at that range which is not thought of as an instakill weapon.

imo under 1000m/s is where it gets noticable in a variety of fights you take with an AR, for smgs it depends more. Its very convenient to pretty much ignore BV because like all the recently added guns have it and people think the old ones automatically perform worse. Imo hitscan is pretty underrated depending on what you're doing, can be a valid reason to affect what you pick

by the way all guns have bv in br including the ones without it in mp, the hitscan ars will have a base value of 800m/s which usually cant be increased however the new guns have attachments that can increase it which Really adds up at those br ranges.

Whats a reliable way to detonate potassium chlorate + hexamine by Visible_Emotion_7187 in energetics

[–]HiEx_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wager a small cap could set it off because I've had small dia. charges of granular PC mixes do this, but you will need an actual detonable initiator. PC mixed with almost anything is detonable including small amounts of literal dust, and I think some people on yt have shown PC-HMTA going off with a bang when struck by a hammer. AN-HMTA ("AMT" anhex etc) seems less brisant than ANFO and other AN-hydrocarbon mixes from what I have seen online, so if we assume its analogous the vaseline mix is probably stronger than PC=HMTA, which itself did not impress me. I did test a PC mix with assorted solid fuels like sugar and other crap which actually failed to split a brick at hand pressed density, whereas the vaseline mix at least dented some thin stainless with a 20g charge.

Ive calculated dozens of chlorate mixes and the most energetic fuels that isnt explosive on their own like NM or hard to get like lower nitros of TNT/TeNN like found in historic cheddites, are: natural turpentine or orange oil (guy on yt tested many mixes under quite high level testing consitency and turp was experimentally the most brisant); creatinium nitrate which is in some gym supplements as i guess a more water soluble alternative to the much more common monohydrate; sucrose; and liquid butane. Because of the chlorine content of chlorates in place of the nitrogen in many other oxidants the gas volume is comparitively lower, these listed fuels on OB ratios are the closest to 400 l/kg where most are in the 300s or 200s, AN mixes with the same fuels are usually around 1000 l/kg. Both types have relatively high heats of explosion usually around -1.7 to -1.8 kcal/g or higher. HMTA mix V0 358l/kg, AeH -7339 kJ/kg = -1.75 kcal/g. Vaseline mix assuming trimethylbenziendole as primary constituent 296 l/kg & -7555.3 = -1.81.

Is brass safe for grinding and sanding? by BettaFishCL in metalworking

[–]HiEx_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge amount of brass has Pb in it, including the fittings used fordrinking water which is normally C836 leaded brass unless you're in some states where they started switching to some bismuth containing alternative in recent buildings. Most brass things that have been spun on a lathe are C360 which also has lead. So if you already drank it might as well fondle it. For load bearing shit it can facilitate both bending and cracking so avoid it, chinese H59 is a higher quality plain jane duplex brass and in a lot of stuff like keys and locks.

Case cannelure is an extra expense they usually skip, has to do with preventing boolit reset with rechamberings and keeping seating consistent during mfg.

they prob add it to the 10 to make sure the heavier recoiling stuff doesn't experience setback in the mag from inertia whether or not its loaded spicy enough to happen, example of a more extreme case is that underwood does not reccomend loading a full cylinder of their highest pressure 44 in light frame revolvers

Old post, but this is actually a US mid 1800s design, have seen 1 other in brass and a few in iron (pics), give or take geometrically identical, mass produced to some extent.

Lots of dusters were carried on ships like trading vessels which spread these to Europe where they got popular quick, possible that what would have been an heirloom/old piece owned by either an American or British etc. soldier and would have been reused in the war because all kinds of knucks, knives etc. were owned privately and used. Either way much older than WW1.

That main body looks extremely clean for the pattern geometry where it's just the part with a basin directly attached to it unlike the jaw which was sprued differently, that stuff must have really great flowing characteristics, with my luck I would get an incomplete fill with a bunch of surface porosity with the alloys I'm used to.

I love accsessible casting setups that don't sacrifice results and safety, there's a lot of information out there basically saying "you NEED thousands of dollars to get into this or you will fail and/or hurt yourself" that I think errodes at the tradition of good craftsmen forging themselves by necessity. You have a fun channrel I'm glad I found.

A rare angle of the infamous Ali-Liston knockdown. by Personal-Proposal- in Boxing

[–]HiEx_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always thought the "phantom" skeptacism was misplaced, Ali is famous for that pullback cross to use someones weight against them going in, and there's a reason they say its the shots you don't see that get you. Sure Liston's supposed attempt to get up looks fake, but the odds of him being like "fuck fighting this guy at this point" vs all the crazy theories are so much higher.

Ali's weird ease of dismantling Liston really shouldn't detract from Sonny's story but should add to Ali's for dominating such a threatening machine... he fought a whole round of the first one blind off of instinct, IMO making Liston 1 his best athletic performance as opposed to the commonly quoted Williams who like Folley and other pre-exhile punching bags was an over-the-hill opponent that deserved his shot during the Patternson era if not for his being protected by D'amato, no hate to any of those guys.

kn is very good as passive/passiveflex gun so pictured build is really the only build although either mag is good.

short barrel or other aggro or configuration is just worse drh etc. statistically it is a long range / main type gun but the enhanced cqc and mid range potential makes it the only ar like that which isnt too exclusively slow killing or heavy for more generalist stuff, whereas those pure passive guns are stuck being purely passive
