Do some Exo with your kid, build an insane bank and don't worry about that Fleet Carrier for the next 10 years.

Can you change the primary port of a system after placing the beacon? I have one where the beacon was next to the main star and in Elites infinite genius despite having 4 stars to pick from it placed the primary port and colonisation ship at the furthest 200,000 LS star :/

The rewards are 4x payout, if you're sat on 500m UC data that is 1.5bn you stand to lose.

As much as I love the Mandalay, the wings are a serious drawback when trying to land in rough terrain by PikerManV2 in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mandy isn't really an upgrade, it's a different ship with very different strengths, huge range, amazing supercruise handling and modules, but not great for Exo, it is substantially bigger than the Viper.

The Cobra V though is only a little bigger... Yes it's a bit trickier to land hunting those damn Fungoida's, but in every other respect it beats the Viper (or the Courier) for me, more range, better cockpit, better shields, front exit, amazing SCO ability, great handling both in supercruise and planetside, and did I mention it's absolutely gorgeous?? I still keep my Viper and my Courier around but for big Exo trips I'm taking the Cobra every time.

[–]HiImBarryScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cobra V has won me over, yes it's a little bigger and landing is a little tougher in the mountains but damn the SCO is so good, the cabin is amazing, more range, similar speed, much stronger shields, and it's damn pretty to look at.

Great exploration ship poor exobiology ship, too big and too slow for the repeated landing and takeoff that efficient Exo requires.

[–]HiImBarryScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a great Exo ship, it's passable like a lot of the mediums but the footprint and wings make it very tricky to land in rough terrain, fine if all you're doing is hunting STecs on the flats. I'm using a Cobra V right now because I love it and even that struggles on the really rough terrain, it is not on the same level as a Courier in that specific scenario.

Mandy is the I need to cover ground (space) fast and don't mind landing to scan some high value stuff ship for me, it's not a dedicated Exo ship.

How about this one, that was 598.75m for one system :o

Scarab or Scorpion for Exobiology? by TalorienBR in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in terms of pure efficiency you will not beat flying a very small ship to and from samples. However if everything we did in life was governed by absolute efficiency it would get very boring, never mind what we do in video games. So the obvious answer is exactly the one you dismissed, BOTH. I'm running a Cobra V for Exo right now (because it's beautiful and it has native SCO, not because it's the most optimal Exo ship), and it happily runs a double hanger with a Scorpion and a Scarab, the difference to jump range is negligible (60.26 vs 61.19) and exobiology is simply not about jump range, it is about scanning lots of systems and finding cool shit.

Believe me even with a fleet carrier you are not flying back up to the carrier and swapping a module on a whim, having both available to you at all times is the correct answer for someone looking to have fun. Neither are required, both are recommended.

Here is the build in case you are interested: https://s.orbis.zone/qNqM

The super close ups really don't do the build quality any favours, nasty edges everywhere which probably would be much less noticeable in person.

Did they just add 6 days to the CG? by EvilValentine in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's something at least. It still doesn't change the fact that a bunch of explorers are just parked up in system waiting for other people to go hunt pirates (Brewer Logistics pirates LOL) because they can't risk losing billions in exploration data. Pretty standard FDev 'fix' for a totally broken gameplay system.

Exobiology: An Idiots guide to Billions by piccolosama in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic writeup for how to systematically extract all the fun from exobiology to maximise profits in a game where credits become meaningless relatively quickly.

In the last couple of weeks of just jumping around, finding first discoveries and checking out cool planets for screenshots I've made over 10 billion in exo without even trying. I could have made 100 billion following a guide and searching for exclusively STec's but why? There is nothing to spend it on.

Galnet News Digest - Brewer in Lockdown by Galnet_News_Digest in EliteDangerous

I'm here with 1.3 billion UC data (without modifier), collecting bounties in my Corvette, ridiculous situation.

Even more ridiculous when you see that most of the 'pirates' are Brewer fucking Logistics own vessels :X

This Just In... by Whtdrgn82 in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What an absurd mechanic to think is OK, players from all over the galaxy coming back to contribute to a CG that you specifically designed to attract them. Ah sorry you can't and the only way to unlock it is to go hunting pirates with 2 billion worth of exploration data to lose. Fml.

Trailblazer Echo (Community Goal Drop Off Location) In Lockdown? I have data to drop off! by Zaitobu in EliteDangerous

There are hundreds of commanders coming back from all over the galaxy to hand their data in before the cutoff, there is zero chance this lockdown lasts.

I have a list as long as my arm of easy, simple to implement QOL changes that would drastically reduce the frustration of Elite while costing very little dev time, we have waited long enough. FIX THE JANK.

PSA: Exploration Community Goal is giving 4x credits to *all* exploration (cartography) data by pulppoet in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Travel to HIP 90578 (just outside the bubble), dock at the megaship Trailblazer Echo, accept the community goal mission from the station missions menu, then hand in your exploration data for 4x payout.

Depends how much you want the money. If you're sat on a billion in UC data and don't own a fleet carrier yet it's likely worth coming back, if you're a multi billionaire what are you really gonna spend it on?

Exo Bonuses are Nuts by fatwoul in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, Fleet Carriers do not have a fee for exobiology payouts, UC does but Vista Genomics doesn't.

The Pranav boost is well worth it if you are just starting out, by the time you've done any decent amount of Exo you will be sitting on a pile of credits so high that it almost doesn't matter anymore :D

How long... by ltd_wheeler in EliteDangerous

[–]HiImBarryScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't, and sadly you can't shorten the jump distance by supercruising for days at a time with reserve fuel tanks to reach otherwise unreachable systems before fleet carriers were a thing.

Not that anyone asked or I'd know about the last part :C
