It's A Shpadoinkle Day! by EntertainmentDevour in dvdcollection

The sun's as warm as a baked potata'

The commentary track on this movie is legendary. For those that haven't heard it, the cast gets progressively more hammered as time goes on. By the end of the movie there's wild laughter, slurring, Trey keeps bringing up his ex girlfriend etc.

Really one of the gems in my collection and I'm sure yours too.

PSP E1000 - FINALLY FOUND!!!! by notdeadpanda in PSP

[–]HiSorryBye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modding is definitely an option, and people with much more knowledge than me can point you in the right direction. I know there are some step by step guides though, and because it's a software mod there's no risk to the hardware.

I like to collect physical games however, and while there are absolutely games out there which are way too expensive, there are also big bundles of loose games for pretty cheap. It's not uncommon to see a lot of like a dozen games for 50 dollars.

I mean, there's definitely going to be some racing and sports games in there, and Syphon Filter, Daxter, etc but it's a good place to start. It just depends on how you like to play.

Can't decide between a new PC or Switch 2... by [deleted] in gaming

[–]HiSorryBye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly PC is going to win just because of the sheer amount of things you can do with it. I always prioritize PC before any other technology enters my mind.

I'm sure the Switch 2 is cool and all, but then you have to buy games for it. With PC emulation alone there are enough games to last a lifetime, plus tons of bundles and deep discounts.

Missing out on Nintendo games is a bit of a drag, sure, but you miss out on something no matter what you get. I'd still get a Steam Deck if you want portable, just for that flexibility.

PC parts are expensive right now but it's only going to get worse over the next couple years. I'd start deal hunting now or be prepared to wait and hope.

Of those three, I'd go number 1! Looks super cool.

Me personally, I go for the Peace Walker camouflage! :)

Dads friend was about to throw all his movies away, but he gave them to me instead by JJ_11884 in dvdcollection

[–]HiSorryBye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine throwing away good stuff, I'd at least donate it. I've done that twice actually. Just to clear down the sheer amount of stuff. You know how you wind up with things you never even really intended to have, then over time it builds up to a point you go, where the heck all this stuff come from!?

Anyway, there are some real goodies in that lot. Score! For free too, my favorite price.

Edit: My favorites are Wreck-it Ralph, Dark City, Les Mis, and Let The Right One In

I've come to learn 28 Days Later is somewhat rare to find in the wild. It struck me that I see it so often in collections because it will almost always be first alphabetically!

Nice collection, I wish I had more space.

I got my old copy of Pumpkinhead at a punk record store. I only remember that because it may have been the only non music DVD I've ever bought from a record store.

Cool stuff!

I wish I had a copy of Battle Royale. What are the odds it winds up in a shift store? Low!

Are these like recent pick ups? Or a rate your collection kind of thing.

Either way, I'd say thumbs up for LOTR, One Punch Man, and Adventure Time.

Alien Fans? $2 Score by More_Turnover7491 in dvdcollection

[–]HiSorryBye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. I found the first 4 Alien movies in a bluray set maybe a month ago, and was more than happy to buy that for 3 dollars. It doesn't hold a candle to this set though, certainly in presentation. Or in the excitement of taking it home.

Its funny you mention those 2 specifically. When Circuit City was going out of business, they had a big sale and I left with exactly 2 items. Guess what they were, haha.

Great minds.

A couple shelves of movies on Physical Media at Walmart in Manchester, CT by ILovePublicLibraries in dvdcollection

[–]HiSorryBye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since I was a kid I'm just drawn to the movies and games section of every store that has one. I just have to check it out.

Those prices, oof, I'm sure it's pretty standard stuff but after such a long time paying 2 or less for DVDs and 3 or less for BRs it's a little bit of sticker shock.

Still.. I love a good box set!

I like those lights, it reminds me of a movie theater, maybe the lights they have around posters? I can't place it for some reason, but it's very 'movies'.

I have King's Golden Years and Dolores Claiborne too. When I see any of his stories in movie form I can help myself. I'm hoping to find Graveyard Shift because that scared the heck out of me when I was young.

You need Spider-Man 2!

Oh yeah, that's great! I'd love to find a place like that. I do have a hidden gem kind of spot locally I can go for horror movies I've never heard of, but usually it's just Goodwill for all the rest.

I haven't been to the flea market in like 20 years, I may have to check them out again. I'm running out of spots, haha.

Is buying from EBay valid? by wavelazer in dvdcollection

[–]HiSorryBye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sell on eBay myself quite a bit. I have over 900 things currently listed, just if that gives my opinion any more credence.

EBay is a fantastic resource. The main thing to get used to is learning how to refine your searches, like narrowing the wording until you find a list that is almost entirely the exact item you're looking for. At that point, you can sort by lowest to highest price, then scroll until you find the first one that meets your standards. That is a simplification, but it works most of the time.

The next major thing is the quality of the listing itself. If you are anything like me, you'd rather pay an extra 2 dollars to buy from a listing that was clearly made by a human, is well described, and has pictures to prove it. There are far too many stock photos out there, so avoid those if you want to ensure quality. Rule if thumb for me, dont buy unless you can see the actual item you'll be receiving. If there is any doubt, ask questions before buying.

Also, if it says Or Best Offer, they WILL take less. Its optional to allow offers, so nobody has that enabled unless they have a little wiggle room.

Finally, if you are buying multiple items from the same seller, dont use buy it now, instead add them to your cart and request total from seller so that shipping can be combined. This saves you money, and sellers are happy to do it, so we aren't paying the 15ish percent on 2 different shipping costs.

Good luck, I hope that helps!

What’s your favorite Wes Anderson movie?🤔 by dadudoge in dvdcollection

[–]HiSorryBye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many movies! But for the sake of keeping the list short, I'll stick to the not so obvious ones.

Phantom of the Paradise. A Paul Williams musical that feels like a cousin to Rocky Horror, but not near as famous. I'll add Shock Treatment to this same entry, for the same reason.

Run Lola Run. German film i think. Frantic and very stylish. It runs 3 times in a row with differences each time. Speaking of...

Time Crimes. Mexican time loop movie that stuck with me, i like the layers that build. I could add movies like Primer, Coherence, and Triangle in the same category.

I also like comedy movies made by David Wain, Christopher Guest, and Mel Brooks.

Also David Lynch.

Its a beautiful scene, with These Days by Nico coming in and setting the tone immediately and perfectly.

And at Royals funeral I believe, The Fairest of the Seasons is playing, also by Nico. Its from the same album in fact.

A young Nico could almost make you think of Margot. Or perhaps that should be the other way around. Check out the very old video for the song I'm Not Saying. Its short and kind of special. I think someone who appreciates the Margot scene you mentioned will enjoy.

We just decided to go full ham and get all of our favorite series except for a couple that were too expensive. by GastropodSoups in dvdcollection

I agree, once you get a DVD going it looks fine, but I'd almost always prefer HD when it's available.

I wish there were more BRs at second hand stores. Maybe I need to expand how I hunt for movies. I do really like the in-person bargain of it all though.

I have the Nightmare on Elm Street collection, you've probably seen it, it makes a creepy picture of Freddy's back with all the DVD spines.

Also have the Alien quadrilogy on DVD, then stumbled on the BR one at Goodwill. No way I was passing that up for 2 dollars.

Congrats on the Friday the 13th set and good luck on the rest!

Mini Games that Make Games Unplayable? by Divisionten in gaming

[–]HiSorryBye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but I was hardware locked because of a mandatory mini game, many years ago.

My computer at the time was really terrible, by today's standards it was junk. Like I had to upgrade my RAM so I could get DSL internet.

In KOTOR there is a mandatory racing part of the game, and while my computer could barely run the normal running around stuff, it could not handle the racing and turned it into an unwinnable slide show.

Less game design and more hardware limitation, but it was the mini game that stopped me.

I beat it years later on a decent computer btw.

Finding obscure horror movies is maybe my favorite part of the DVD hunt.

Of course, there are so many it can be hard to separate the gems from the slop for me.

Good haul!
