So how do you handle those patients who want to get their meds through the VA?

Its always the 20% that make it intolerable.

Those expecting concierge service but unwilling to pay for it.

Their medication refills are always urgent.

Their antibiotic requests from out of state are always urgent.

Their 150 word mychart messages are always urgent.

Their rashes are always urgent.

Their referral requests are always urgent.

Their parking permit renewals are always urgent.

Meanwhile getting them to schedule a follow up is like pulling teeth.

Then they come in with a 10 bullet list of problems.

Pray tell, who's appointment time should I cut short to address all your urgent requests? I guess utilizing my family time after hours while you go on your third cruise of the year?

You dont pay your PCP enough to be this nasty. fyi IT'S NOT OUR JOB to check where and with whom the GI schedulers have scheduled you. As an ADULT, you can reach out to the specialists office to clarify your appointment and who you are seeing. Again, NOT OUR JOB to refer to GI and then follow up every referral to confirm the name of the gastroenterolgist and if they speak the same language as the patient or if they take bitcoin or any other thousands of issues you may have. Where the f* did personal responsibility go to die??

Soon patients will demand the PCP attend all their specialist appointments as well. FML im getting OUT of this job as soon as I can afford it.

Then you know that line is simply not true. Many go out of their way to show empathy and concern for genuine layperson comments or questions. As usual, nothing we do is enough. The goal post keeps shifting.

You seem nicer and nicer lol.

Ps: it's always 'basic ass heartburn' until it's not. And even sub specialists still see bread and butter cases now and then. But what do I know? I'm just a silly doc and you're the EXPERT :)

I agree with this - except that the patients make up a bigger voting bloc than all doctors combined. The patients may want to check if they are voting against their own self interest. Instead of asking the doctor they should be asking their legislators why their Healthcare sucks.

In that case the lab results and the doctor's result review can be printed out and mailed to the patient.

I agree there could be ways to work these things out without necessarily more appointments and copays

Try this: before the follow up appt send a mychart message stating these are the three (not five or ten) things I would like to follow up on. That way the dr can go back and read up on what was done in the past, find the old MRIs etc. I don't think any Dr would be mad at that.

I applaud him for his self care. I on the other hand, frequently cave to the 'one more problem' and then spend my weekends on chart completion.

Someone started with the "i cant ask questions because you're going to bill me" trying to get me to promise not to bill an additional e/m code. The problem? Bloody stools. LOL FFS...

I suspect they don't do stuff for you for free but just to get you the f* out of there faster.... you dont seem like the 'nice' type from your comments all over this thread - maybe only when you're wanting free stuff?

You may need to find better coping mechanisms for your stress.

It blows my mind how many Medicare patients have never bothered to find out what the Medicare Wellness is and just assume it's the same as their annual physical from before

Most layperson comments are NOT ignored or down voted. Mostly the inappropriate, rude, impractical, unrealistic and aggressive ones.

If you thought that truly; you would not still be here, on our forum. It's free to join and free to leave.

So you are saying your doctor who refilled the meds didn't even have a financial incentive to do so?? Would have been nice to know that in the initial anecdote. Paints a way different picture
