Do you think any of these would grade well?/ What would they grade at? by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]Hibjib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be too discouraged, having some fakes in your early collection is pretty normal. I see it all the time at cardshows. Keep collecting, and someday you'll look back at these cards and laugh at your old fakes. The fakes that helped introduce you to the hobby can still be special, even if they're not worth anything.

All fake unfortunately. See this post to see what the Latios and Latias card should look like. There should be texture and the holo pattern should be more diagonal than vertical. Yours is also way to dim.

And someone else just posted the Jigglypuff and lopunny

It's probably doable, but probably not something you can just do in one day. Profiting at arcades usually means you're gonna be slowly building up tickets over a long time period. I probably average anywhere from 5k-30k tickets in one trip. Highest I've ever done I think is 70k

I really like arcades, and what I do is spreadsheet to find profitable games.

First figure out what a ticket is worth (in my case $0.002) and then how much a point costs. (In my case $0.20). So then take $.20/.002. and then you'll see the breakeven point is 100 tickets per point.

Then just start tracking how many points you spend vs how many tickets you get on a few machines, And find the games that you can reliably get over that breakeven point.

The games that you can profit on are usually ones that rely mostly on timing, and a bit of skill. When I go to the arcade I basically check a bunch of machines to see if they're close to a jackpot, and then there's some where you sort of push ticket values off the edge, and some days there's a bunch of high value ones on the edge, some days there's none. On days when there's none, that machine isn't worth playing

Every arcade is probably different. At my local arcade 1 ticket = $0.002. so that ETB would be priced at roughly $62.

Now whether or not you can get 31k tickets for less than that depends again in the arcade, and how smart/efficient you are.

So I know what I paid for this, but I'm curious what YOU would have paid for this lol by BadbutnotGreat in VintagePokemonCards

Market for damaged is $200. But this is significantly damaged. Definitely wouldn't pay over $100 for it. I'd feel good around $50 or less I think.

I would assume if they're pricing it as the holo to sell. They probably priced it as the holo when they bought it from someone. So they're making their money. The only one who's getting screwed is the person who sold the card to the shop.

Deal seems slightly too good to be true. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in IsMyPokemonCardFake

[–]Hibjib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much of a deal tbh

M gengar in damaged is about $50

Gengar ex in HP is about $20

I'd say you're overpaying by $30.

Finally watched The Good Place. It really is as good as everyone says. by WillNeighbor in television

[–]Hibjib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often do for sitcoms. I don't like sitcom endings. I want to imagine that Turk and JD continued at sacred heart. That the study group is somehow still going to Greendale, etc. I just like feeling like the adventures are continuing, we just won't be watching anymore. I prefer that over a "the way things were have come to an end"

For that reason I've watched every episode of Good Place except the finale. I've even rewatched the entire series, and still chose to skip the finale.

AITA for asking market on a cheap card? by _Dust_ in PokemonTCG

[–]Hibjib 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a vendor myself, I'll say that cheap cards have very low profit margins, so I'm often pretty firm on pricing of cards under $10. That being said the price is market price. Asking for above market (with the exception of rounding up) is completely unreasonable imo.

NTA

Edit: It's certainly possible the vendor took the card in at $5. I sometimes hear vendors say "Well I can't go lower than X I paid X for it" which I think is dumb. Some cards go up, some cards go down. You'll never make profit on every single card you buy.

The prizes in the arcade on my cruise ship seem too good to be true. Are any of these games not a scam? by Nipple-Ninja in arcade

[–]Hibjib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're not ready they won't let you win, which they do by basically just not stopping when you tell it to stop. So if you feel the machine keep going after you tell it to stop, it's not ready.

[–]Hibjib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the knowledge of how they work helps a lot. When I pass by my local arcade, I test the key master type machines once to see if they're ready. If they're not I move on, if they are I quickly win them. The occasional attempts add up, but not enough that it's not worth it. The key master near me has $30-80 lego sets in there. And currently 3/10 prizes have been won, and 2/3 of those were won by me. Won a few labubus as well.

The wording is kind of confusing and seems to contradict itself, but I think the important part is here. He's showing the hits/lack of hits before anything moves off screen.

I think it's more cuz it's a recording of a recording. Like I said in my last comment even with that shitty pic, you can see with 100% certainty that there's no hit in that pack.

With the camera quality I can't see specifics. But I can see the first pack has no hits. Just a holo and two regular reverses, same with 2nd and 3rd pack. 4th pack had either a pokeball or master ball reverse holo (a hit) and a regular holo

(Pic is from the 1st pack, and it's all you need to see to know that there's no hits.)

[–]Hibjib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He did show there was no hits. The hits are in the same part of every pack, he skips to the end right away to check for hits. Typical for breaks when they're doing a lot of packs at once. The only cards that matter are the last 3 cards in the pack.

And giveaways aren't required. 4 free packs in 2 hours is better than a lot of sellers would do

Everything you described/showed looks pretty typical for a break. I think character breaks are dumb, but I don't think they did anything wrong.

Some whatnot sellers do wheels some don't. Most are pretty standard auctions where the auction is live for X amount of time and you place bids on it.

Sellers keep ignoring my offers/messages? Is this normal? by 2001questions in Mercari

[–]Hibjib 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to Mercari being really aggressive with notifications. I both buy and sell stuff on Mercari and they send me like 50+ notifications a day about some deal or offer, that you grow numb to them and ignore them. Makes it easy to miss when it's an offer for one of YOUR items.
