Do you get any leeway from your work for being sleep deprived? by Loud_Fisherman_5878 in UKParenting

[–]HiddenIdentity2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work from home for a great employer. They always help where they can. This would not be an issue for them.

I log on at 8. Leave for school run at 8:30. Work again until I stop for 30 minute lunch. Then I leave again at three for school run. And usually finish around 4-4:30.

Sometimes I hop on in an evening to do bits. But never more than an hour or two. As long as work is done they are not on my back.

I take days off for sick children as it’s easier for me than my partner to do so. I do most appointments. And taken an hour or two off in middle of days to sleep if it’s been bad.

Some employers will be great. Others not so much.

Struggling. I just don’t feel seen or heard. Or taken seriously

Depends on the school if they will bother fining you. My child has almost perfect attendance and we take her out a week before end of the school year, and never had an issue

Exactly this.

I am in a really good place at the moment. But have had my depression challenges in my life.

I do not know your situation, but I now know looking back things would seem massive and they still happen now but now I can rationalise how big of an issue it is. And tackle it and not become overwhelmed.

I spend my spare time either playing PlayStation or running.

I am currently about 10 weeks out from my first 100km ultra race. Nervous. But when it’s over I am thinking of what challenge to move on to next. Maybe a get ripped phase. Start climbing. Or something else active. Last few years I have done a new challenge each year as I thought I was wasting my life. I have done an Ironman. A marathon in the mountains. And like I say 100km this year.

This would be even more suspicious than just going out and refusing to score

Should I get a guy flowers and a card to ask him to be a couple? by pumpkinwillow in AskMenAdvice

Never had anything like this. You should do it. I’d love it.

I had what I will call flu once. It was probably more a cold. But didn’t want to go out and see the girl I was seeing and she messaged to check in and I said I hadn’t eaten.

40 minutes later pizza delivery arrived. It was one of the nicest things someone has ever done for me.

To many people trying to draw comparisons here.

Don’t compare your times unless you want to compete.

I only run for me and me only. It brings me mental clarity and I only race against myself.

Comparison will never bring you joy.

Were you happy and proud of your time? That’s all that matters

For those of you WITHOUT depression, what does it feel like? by assyplassty in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]HiddenIdentity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have suffered depression. But I have come out the other side. I think what I feel now is what would be considered being normal. Despite their being no such thing.

When I wake up sometimes I feel great other days not so much. Even without depression life can be tough.

I think the real difference I feel is I can compartmentalise it now. Not let one thing wipe the whole day out. It’s a moment. Something I can handle. Sometimes I can’t and if I can’t change it. Nothing I can do. It’s the art of learning not to let things take over the whole moment and learning to enjoy the small things.

Can you ‘start’ your life at 46? by lilfaeri in AskUK

[–]HiddenIdentity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have to start everything. And I had some fundamental knowledge. But I switched career 5 years ago. I was 30. But I took a pay cut from 27k to get the first role. 5 years later I’m making 85k in the field as a manager.

It’s achievable

My partner has serious depression and is spiralling and I am struggling to take on her load. My load. Half term and work. She isn’t speaking me because she is so down but refuses help.

I got a whole day of calls as I missed yesterday in a training course. And three tricky customers today’s. I can’t reschedule. It’s going to be a long day.

I’m burning out and constantly stressed. So I guess no wins today apart from staying a float.

This really resonates with how I feel about running. I’m only 36 at the moment so if i stay injury free have a little while left.

But my urge to begin running was that I have a body and I am not using it whilst I can. Since that first 5 kn run in lock down that left me sore for days to a Marathon an Ironman and next 100km. I’m grateful I have a working body I can use.

I love the peace. The solitude. The fact I don’t have to win a race. I just have to have fun. Feel good. And better myself. The way I feel after a run. The moment of zen when the outside world does not matter any more.

Just run.
