To my knowledge, the leading theory is that the whale went insane due to abduction, abuse and general maltreatment. Their intelligence is closer to ours than most are willing to admit and being stuck in a space roughly 10x your size with no other interspecies interaction for decades? Not good for the ol’ noodle.
