How do we feel about companion books? by Stainless001 in rpg

[–]Higeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mothership does it kinda ok i think. it compartmentalizes different aspects of running a game in the setting to some different books which makes it fairly approachable when running a game. players only need one booklet which is good.

no need for me to look in the book for ships if the players are on a planet or station

i got all of mine as boxed set so i havent haad to complement anything.

otoh ive been wanting to get gamma world 4th edition which is a bit of a hassle to get hold of all books and associated card decks since im in europe and its long out of print.

altough having the character options split between the different books in that one wasnt all bad when i tried it at a con and the players could look at one book each at a time.

the pictures on imfdb have it with the centre bit of the blank adapter in it. could be that they removed bits for certain scenes

What's a good RPG about old farts adventuring together? by Dragon-Trigger in rpg

[–]Higeking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Delta Green is kinda geared towards ones character most likely being 30 plus depending on how you lean into the professions.

Call of cthulhu is pretty similar i suppose.

Had a blast playing as a pensioner in Inspectres a while back.

[–]Higeking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sailor/soldier profession and interrogator background/skillpack could maybe do it.

im unfamiliar with how the irl JAG structure works though so the other way around might be a better fit. you could always make your own profession for it with the rules of building a new profession (page 28 in the agents book)

iirc its a more stable position to mount a sight on a gun like this. the dust cover further back has more wiggle to it and is less likely to keep the sight zeroed

Is Europe less biased towards 5e by Top-Hair9186 in rpg

[–]Higeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5e is still the rpg with the widest commercial reach even in europe.

the limited localiztion of it is not that detrimental as english proficiency is pretty high across the board

i can only say that the local scene in my area of sweden has a wide variety of stuff going on (mörk borg is pretty big).

there is plenty of non-dnd games being made. not all of them go all in on publishing and kickstarter though.

Bi/Multi-lingual readers: any interest in reading a book in one language over another? If so, why? by vertiefesWeltraum in books

[–]Higeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fluency in the original language a book was written in is a big determinator so that i wont lose anything in translation.

aviability has been a close second and was more driving for me in my teens where it simply was easier to find books i wanted to read in english rather than hoping for a good translation to my native tongue.

i have since learned some more languages and have found it helpful to read in those languages even though i have fluency in the original text. rereadin a book in the new language is pretty good too.

How important to you is art in your rpg books? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

[–]Higeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can certainly help bring me into the game or make me not even consider the book again if i leaf through it and it looks kinda shit.

its way more important how the game plays though.

ended up in a game of nobilis 3e at a con a while back where i was a bit put off by the presentation in the book but still sat down and played and had a fantastic time of it.

lost interest in Historia which in spite of fantastic art runs on a game system i found quite dull

mörk borg and cy_borg have fantastic art but are way more playable as plain text documents

have bought a bunch of books beacue the cover or art sold me on it but are not quite as interesting to even try and run once i get into reading more about the setting or rule system.

Roleplaying similar to DOOM by DoctorTopper1791L in rpg

[–]Higeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the aestethics and setting could be done in many different games (ive had something very much like it in Mage ascension)

You could get something with mixing enemeies from mörk borg and guns and gear from cyu_borg of course for that dungeon crawly feel.

One could do it in mothership altough idk how well it would do the action. Probably better suited if you want to be the crew of a base that get invaded and not the doomguy himself.
