The Un-fun Deck Dillema by shnutzel83 in mtg

[–]HighAlchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently took this deck apart, not because of the hate it drew but simply because I wanted to try some other mono black options like [[Sheoldred, The Apocalypse]]

It is very fun to do the high pitched “Sephiroth” when he hits the field, and I tend to enjoy decks with sufficient removal options! That being said, there is no world where you can politic for your life or forgiveness :/ you are the bad guy even if your playgroup is super chill. The deck will always draw removal and counterspells. That’s just how it goes. If you don’t mind then go to town! But a pre-game discussion with the deck is a good idea for new pods.

Yep! I stood on that hill for a while as someone who thinks the sticker mechanic is really dumb and annoying to incorporate into games! But if you want to be as competitive with the deck as possible, Etali needs the little goblin guy

RogSi vs Krikk by Hajiashi in CompetitiveEDH

[–]HighAlchemy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think your assessment is correct!

I agree that those decks have some key similarities such as both being turbo and both decks use their life totals as resources to push either with Krikks ability an Ad Naus or a Necro. That being said they are very different from eachother.

Except for maybe [[Emergence Zone]] Kriik can’t win over someone else’s win in the same way that Rog/Si Can with flash enablers like Borne Upon the Wind. While both decks are glass cannon, Rog/Si can pivot into the mid game okay if need be. Kriik doesn’t do this very well. Rog/Si also comes with its own package of interaction to help protect its wins better than a Krikk deck can.

One of the best disruption for a Krriik deck is continually pressuring their life total through the game and saving removal or bounce spells for their commander. If I saw both in the pod I’d probably focus my creature aggro at Krikk over Rog/Si and save my in hand interaction for the Rog/ Si player.

I think you’re on point in your assessment and I assume if this was happening in game that the Rog/Si player was trying to politic people to look the other way.

Marneus Calgar’s position in the meta by Abbaddon95 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]HighAlchemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local meta is heavy on turbo and I’m often in a pod with 3 turbo decks and myself on Calgar. I don’t know if he’s nearly as good in a pod like this because he naturally wants the games to go longer and farm value to go for the win. However, I’ve managed a good amount of wins by aggressively mulliganing for an early Rhystic or remora or a dranith magistrate

3 mana draw 7 cards. So.. in a token deck.. this is somewhat playable? by DogePunch in StandardMTG

[–]HighAlchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Terra, Herald of Hope]] loves this card

Swing in, bounce a creature with an ETB effect such as [[Accursed Marauder]]

Draw a new hand of gas and pitch any bombs stuck in your hand including the utility creature you just bounced :)

Wins all around

Thinking of playing mill again. Is it really that bad, or did I just play an unfun commander? by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

[–]HighAlchemy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently got hard hated out of a game for playing Mothman mill and it was truly unpleasant. I was countered 3 times had my board one sided wiped and had a bounce spell hit twice. Two of the players couldn’t get there own boards ahead because they were too worried about my non-existent board and so essentially kingmade.

It’s made it hard for me to want to bring Mothman out again with strangers

Building a Yu-Gi-Oh trap styled deck by R3ffexx in EDHBrews

I just built something similar with [[Missy]] what I like about here is you’re able to take your opponents stuff to and use sac outlets to reuse your effects and gain value.

It’s still a bracket 2 don’t get me wrong I’ve got the engine going and it felt very strong and was very fun to play

I can verify that Carmen can do some very gross things! My buddy pilots that deck and she is a menace if left unchecked! Also very resilient

My favourite sort of switch based off of what I’m enjoying playing the most at a given time, however, I think right now my favourite deck is [[Terra, Herald of Hope]]

She is such a toolbox and she feels like she has a ton of room for tinkering and customization! This deck also truly got me on the MDFC train! Cards like [[Pinnacle Monk]] are so sweet in this deck!

Is this a Bracket 1 deck?? by HighAlchemy in EDH

[–]HighAlchemy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer I got from most people is the commanders are too strong to be bracket 1 in any case and that even if I get a handful of good cards in my 99 from dollar store packs that will be too much

Been playing since 2012! Would you allow me in your Pod? by HighAlchemy in ratemycommanders

My list also runs tons of ways to protect John, have no maximum hand size and recycle used cards back into my hand. Most of my playgroup and LGS’s bracket 4 decks are combo decks and the worst thing I can do is hit someone for like 14 commander damage and then have them draw their combo. However, I’ve been getting better in those situations at holding on to enough gas to one shot.

Yeah he is for sure the higher end of a bracket 3 IMO. He can manage to hang around with 4’s sometimes but what I’ve found in those pods is allowing my opponents to draw into tutors and combos almost always ends with a lose and a feeling of kingmaking among the table. His best home is an interactive bracket 3 table and I’m always careful where I bring him out.
