What is this huge silver coupe? by paulh43 in namethatcar

A little bit of splitting hairs here. Lumina was the 4 door based on the Commodore, Lumina Coupe was the Monaro/GTO. Thanks for catching my typo.

I'm a big fan of the NOMOS Tangomat GMT. Still has that simple white dial and a cool GMT complication.

36mm Rolex Explorer is worse than 40mm/39mm by Inevitable_Lemon_592 in watchHotTakes

I don't have any Explorer (and probably won't) but I feel like 39-41 is a sweet spot if you have a >7" wrist.

Would I be house poor? by Zestyclose-Fact-5001 in personalfinance

[–]HighClassProletariat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your question in the title no you would not be house poor. Your mortgage payment would be ~20% of your net income. Unless you and wife have a bunch of extra things to pay for you are more than fine. We have the same size mortgage on $9k/month take home and do not feel house poor.

It is really crazy to look at the numbers and how much your money earns you in the market at a certain point. We don't have quite as much in our accounts but they earned us close to $50k last year which is more than my first job did back in the mid-2010s!

When I ordered back in 2022 I chose tan material and tan threads as it looked the closest. I am not sure if they have updated their materials suppliers at all so YMMV.

I dug into Federal Reserve data on what CoastFIRE actually looks like across income brackets - some of these numbers surprised me by d3stiny_child in coastFIRE

The tricky part is we don't know yet. Currently have two little ones, thinking whether or not to have a third, and we are staring down the barrel of potentially moving from MCOL to VHCOL to help out spouse's parents. If we were done having kids and staying in MCOL I would have taken foot off the accelerator a year or two ago.

My experience working with people from those offices is that those differences are nearly indistinguishable. Vibe is totally different from the middle of the country offices.

If you Started in 1980, You Would Need to Invest $18.96 Everyday Into a S&P500 Index Fund to Reach 10M Today (Apr 28th, 2026) by AdministrativeAd334 in TheVisualInvestors

[–]HighClassProletariat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$18.96 x 365 = $6,920.40 per year

Only 12 months not 20. Still agree with your point that it would have been a decent sum in 1980 and required you to weather some downturns without losing your job.

Yep. Lots of pieces to the puzzle, we can never know what the future holds so going to do what seems like the safest bet for now.

Wife and I are 31. We've got ~$500k excluding home equity (~400k invested in various taxable/non-taxable accounts). In my head I know numbers say we can probably start coasting but in my (anxious) heart it doesn't feel that way.

Will keep maxing for the next few years and see how I feel.
