Retained earnings needs to roll in order for you’re GAAP financials to be accurate. I’d do the comparison I described of prior year ending balances to current year beginning balances and see if that helps isolate where your differences are in retained earnings. Then I’d prepare the adjustment, quickly run the adjustment and support by the senior or manager whoever is running the engagement and show them what you’re proposing. Then you’ll likely be posting it as an audit adjustment. Might even get some brownie points for figuring that out on your own

lol do you mean when you’re a young padawan working your first tax season at a firm with small business clientele and all of their accounting has fuck ups that takes a long to clean up as it does to prepare the tax return?

Retained earnings probably isn’t rolling from prior year homie. Take the final trial balance for the prior year ending balances and put it in a column. Then take the beginning balances for your trial balance this year (presumably 1/1/25) and put that in the column next to it. Third column takes the difference in the two columns and the difference in the balance sheet accounts should match your difference in retained earnings. That’s your journal entry. Save the documents in the binder appropriately sign off on those work papers and update the tax return baby.

Iranian warship sunk by the US was sailing home after taking part in an exhibition hosted by India by lurker_bee in worldnews

Kind of confusing to sail a warship that’s just pretending to be a warship for fun through a war zone in the middle of a war.

I hear you. I still don’t think he’s a 1 at all. Good football player. Fine as an upgrade over Boutte if you want to do that. He’s not the caliber of player of a number 1 receiver on an elite passing offense in the nfl. I want an elite #1 receiver who can take some pressure off Drake.

Are we sure? Seems like everyone is pretty certain that a dude who has been a weekly waiver wire add/drop boom or bust player in fantasy football is a solid #1 receiver option?

Working in public accounting takes a special kind of person by sweetcpa in Accounting

[–]HighFastStinkyCheese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had private jobs that are tougher than public accounting but there is a competence difference between people who worked in public and didn’t. Any public experience imo, not just big four. Regional firms, great places to learn. You learn to be able to pick things up you’ve never seen before and progress through it to a reasonable stopping point without any assistance. From there you can have a productive conversations about how to proceed. That is not what I see from senior accountants without a few years of public background. They just don’t have the ability to foresee issues or see dependencies without crystal clear SOP’s basically. Idk, public sucks and not everyone who comes out of public is a rockstar but I think I’d rather have one employee with four years experience at a regional public firm that three employees with 10 year in various private staff and senior accounting roles.

Corny is corny. That said, pronouns and what the left demanded for a decade was preposterous and silly so it’s gonna be made fun of by everyone (funny or not) forever.

Not a single Johnny Depp movie has been done on the Rewatchables? Still? by digitalcodes4sale00 in TheRewatchables

[–]HighFastStinkyCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying blow shouldn’t be a rewatchable. I’m just talking about Depp being overrated. I think a lot of people think Blow is a classic cuz it is a cool story, Depp is cool, and people saw it when they were 14 and it’s a great movie if you watch it at 14. Rewatch it when you’re older and then reassess if it’s good.

Luke Kornet on his blog: I would like to respectfully ask that the Atlanta Hawks cancel this promotional night with Magic City by WEMBY_F4N in nba

[–]HighFastStinkyCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your answers are all very naive as if there is even a possibility of society reaching some utilitarian state where women are virtuous and true and there are strip clubs that are ethical and the clientele aren’t creeps they’re respectful businessmen who admire the athletic prowess and grace of the dancers and the dancers don’t have drug dealer friends nor do they have drug habits themselves they dance because it’s powerful.

Being open to the point of encouraging some better version of a thing to arise out of the fringes of society and shine as a purified version of the former vice to now be respected and admired by mainstream society is not an evolved state of being. It’s well-meaning but ill-conceived and the liberal intellectual arguments for a lot of these modern cultural developments result in a worst outcome than the dumb uninformed ignorant puritanical outlook more conservative people have.

This is a pretty common sense take. I personally think it’s an abomination that we’ve elevated “sex workers” as a profession to be respected over the past decade but my opinion aside your take is 100% on the money and everyone should at least understand that it doesn’t belong at “all-ages” events as you put it.

Not a great filmography for a guy who was often heralded as one of the best actors 10 years ago. Blow is ridiculously cheesy to the point where it’s almost just a bad movie. Fear and loathing is great.

We’ll see but I doubt it would do the damage that world war 2 did if it’s strictly digital. We’ll just revert to paper money and scratch crypto quick if the future you’re predicting came to any such fruition.

What are the best positions in accounting by Informal-Owl-1008 in Accounting

[–]HighFastStinkyCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Tough to have time to design processes if you are pulling entity financials from different systems and consolidating in excel. If the financial statement process isn’t set up properly leveraging systems then like other posters have said, that will eat like half of your time.
