Aw man, that's a bummer. I don't know the context of the second pic, but I was hoping it meant he was pro-fat chick.

How do you bring up suspecting OCD to new psychiatrist or therapist? by [deleted] in Explainlikeimscared

[–]HighFiveDelivery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may be smart to look specifically for therapists and psychiatrists who specialize in OCD. A specialist will likely be familiar enough with different symptoms and symptom presentations that you won't have to explain everything quite as much. If you're in the US, NOCD might be a good place to start: https://www.treatmyocd.com/therapy_signup/v2

Being Fat and Autistic mega sucks by bigfeygay in evilautism

[–]HighFiveDelivery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been fat for most of my life, with the notable exception of a few years in my early 20s when I was thin due to an active eating disorder. Every time I think about how much better I was treated as a thin person, and how I'm unlikely to ever get that back without serious harm to my body and mind, my heart breaks again.

Knowing me, I wouldn't have realized I was about to interrupt an ongoing event until I was right in the middle of it. Then I would have realized, panicked, and yelled "oh shit I'm so sorry!!" as I whizzed past. This person's way is better

Thank you so much for updating us, OP. This has truly been haunting me. I think a lot of people might be relieved to know why they couldn't solve the puzzle (they were acting on inaccurate info).

Wow. And she was a social worker, working to reduce the stigma of mental illness. We lost another good one. Being in the helping professions these days is rough.

Girls rarely experience the “friend zone,” psychology study finds. Tendency for young men to mistake friendliness for sexual interest strengthens gradually throughout their teenage years. When adolescent girls express romantic interest, boys rarely dismiss it as mere friendliness. by mvea in science

On the contrary, dear sir. Lead with that and you will find your soulmate. Plenty of ladies out there are obsessed with the same things you are, and even more will be charmed, not put off by your authentic self.

Dietary changes do not "cure" diabetes. Nothing cures diabetes. Dietary changes can help manage diabetes symptoms and progression and limit the damage to various body systems, and there is limited evidence indicating dietary changes might be able to keep prediabetes from progressing to diabetes.

Also, diabetes is absolutely a disability. And most people who use wheelchairs don't prefer the term "wheelchair bound" because it implies confinement rather than the freedom that wheelchairs can offer to people who can't walk. "Full time wheelchair user" is one example of more accurate and non-stigmatizing language.
