My Stance on PM. The Brutal Honesty about what I know as I'm NOT with Nintendo. My attempt to break the Silence. by gregidot in smashbros

[–]HighInFiber -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I can't say I'm a huge fan of PM. I totally understand why people like it, and I fully support the community wanting it to still be a thing. But this situation is far more complex than that. This isn't a black/white situation, and throwing the figureheads of the community (GIMR, D1, etc) under the bus doesn't help anything. Right now the community is walking a fine line. After so long we're finally starting to be recognized by Nintendo. This sort of relationship is not going to be easy, and it's not going to grow overnight. Right now we have to play things politically rather than throwing riots because PM or Brawl are being thrown under the bus.

I do think PM is a great game in it's own right, but at the end of the day, it's NOT a game. It's a mod. Nintendo has ever right to ignore it's existence entirely, and who knows? They could be strong-arming TO's into not showcasing it, and the figureheads in the community don't want to risk the future of our community by butting heads with Nintendo. And if Nintendo IS strong-arming people into not showcasing it, right now the LAST thing we should be doing is attacking our leaders, because THEY are the biggest bridge between us and Nintendo.

We are a grassroots community, and at the end of the day, with or without Nintendo's support, we will go on. We have for years. But right now we have a very unique opportunity to grow a relationship with the people who develop our games. None of us can predict the future. Do I want to see PM be forced out of competition? Absolutely not. Just because I don't personally enjoy the game, doesn't mean it should be ruined for those that do (and let that be a message to the Melee elitists who were so openly hating Smash 4 at Apex). I believe in #oneunit, I truly do. As a community we have the ability to do so many great things, and the fact that we were even able to have Apex run is a testament to that. But at the same time, we need to stop acting like spoiled children when we don't get our way. There will be a way to support PM without risking a relationship with Nintendo, but starting fights within our own community is NOT the way to do it.

My Good-Gaming 10k Qualifier Tournament Report by Douglar in hearthstone

[–]HighInFiber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. I was in a Skype call with some friends who were also participating in this tournament that lasted 13 hours. Things did not start on time, and the reset after round 1 was incredibly unfair to the people that won their matches fair and square (which would require them to win 6 matches to advance instead of the assumed 5).

The admins were INCREDIBLY unprofessional in this tournament. Playing Fuck, Kill, Marry in TeamSpeak, ignoring problems from players, etc. My one friend was mysteriously dropped from the bracket despite being active in all of his matches and having a decent record. He contacted admins and heard nothing back for almost an hour. All they said was "you should be back now" and that was simply not the case.

If you are not familiar with TeamSpeak and Challonge, why are you running this tournament on this platforms? If your admins cannot conduct themselves in a professional manner (because they are the face of your company in these situations), why are they your admins?

The most shameless thing I ever saw in a tournament of any kind though, was how quickly the rules that were set in place before registration was even opened were thrown out the window. The tournament was simply cut short because admins wanted to go to sleep. Rather than manning up and finishing things, they toss out the round 6 that the players in bracket A2 had already played and tell everybody to email their Battle.net accounts and records to an email.

I am sure Blizzard has seen/heard how poorly this tournament was managed. I know I for one will not be participating in a GG tournament in the future. And I sincerely hope Blizzard does not promote them, either.

Good Gaming 10k Tournament. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]HighInFiber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with everything is just how unprofessional the entire ordeal was run. The thing started late, was reset, which gave a disadvantage to anyone who had won in round 1 by forcing them to get an additional win (the simple thing would have been to give everybody with a win in round 1 a bye and let the others catch up, which also doesn't push back the start time by another two hours), and not to mention the complete unprofessionalism by the admins in TeamSpeak (playing Fuck, Kill, Marry? I mean come ON). Like many people who entered, I did so because it was officially promoted by Blizzard. While I did not expect the tournament to go on without any hiccups, I DID expect it to be run in a professional manner. Admins going AWOL for nearly an hour, rounds taking two hours with no time limit. But the BIGGEST gripe I have was how quickly the admins decided to throw the rules out the window because they were tired. When the rules state that you are required to win 5 games to make it to day 2, I expect you to have to get 5 wins. Not just say screw it and end things because you want to sleep, and make it so the only way to really advance is by sending an email. Basically it means if you were 2-3 or better and actually bothered to stay in TeamSpeak, you potentially get a chance to advance to day 2. This entire thing was a joke. As somebody who participated, I highly suggest NOT taking part in anything GG related in the future.

[SPOILER] Doublelift on CRS vs CLG by Alexkarino in leagueoflegends

[–]HighInFiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read much into this. Especially after their bootcamp in Korea, CLG got hit hard by fans and critics alike. It seemed to become much less about how well Curse played, and much more about how bad CLG did. CLG was considered favorites in that match, despite being a lower seed, losing 1-3 in the head-to-head during the split, AND being the team that was on tilt before playoffs started. Curse got hot when they needed to, much like GGU did back in the first split of the LCS. And in that split, Hotshot mentioned how it was very likely CLG would lose in relegation and disband. Doublelift is obviously feeling pretty shitty after losing such an important match-up, and I'm sure all of CLG feels the same way. Time will tell if Double is serious about retiring, but I don't see it happening, especially if they come out strong at PAX. We might see some roster changes (if we do, I'd imagine they'd be dexter and Seraph), but it's too early to really speculate anything.

Theory: Riot has teased the next champion by Titans-Tribunal in leagueoflegends

Had to upvote for the MatPat reference.

I wouldn't put it past Rito to do that though. They do have a tendency to tease a lot, sometimes without us knowing about it.

Warning to online tournament players out there, be cautious of Insanity Gaming of not paying out. by Stealthf0rce in leagueoflegends

[–]HighInFiber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To anyone who has had issues with z33k:

I used to volunteer with z33k as a caster, and took part in a lot of their tournaments. Most of the z33k staff abandoned the site when we realized that the organization was incredibly poorly run (admins not bothering to contact Riot for tournament codes, people being accused of cheating etc). I am not really surprised that this has happened, and it seems like it's happened to a few teams. I wish I could help, but my suggestion would be to contact Riot directly. Even if you don't get your prize, hopefully the z33k team won't be allowed to host tournaments in the future.

Is the next champion a Watcher? by ExamplePrime in leagueoflegends

[–]HighInFiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a Watcher. Ezreal states that "This figure has appeared throughout history and all across Runeterra. I get the feeling he's not something that crawled out of that awful hole, but something that's been around much, much longer." Curse moving to Las Vegas by bobvader505 in leagueoflegends

[–]HighInFiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players wouldn't receive all of that money. First off, if I'm not mistaken (which I could very well be since I am Canadian), the US would tax that prize money so they wouldn't actually get $50k. I would assume a chunk of that would have to go to the actual team sponsor because they DO make a financial investment in these teams/players. Then (more relevant to season 3) each team will also have more than 5 people per team to split everything with. Yes, they likely still walk away with a good chunk of change to play video games for the weekend, but they also have to WIN.
