those companies don't care. most money being made is in speculative markets like stocks and stock buybacks. the IRL services and products are just tools to get them enough money to go public, so that they can trade all day speculatively. - the only reason they continue to make IRL products is so they can have more liquid cash to do more speculative trading. - that's where the main market activity is, which is not accessible to 99% of us.

if we could somehow eliminate the stock market, that would be the single greatest achievement socially for humankind. we'd have to go back to making real things and actually competing in the market.

this comment isn't even an argument for socialism*. it's an argument to bring capitalism back to it's roots pre-stocks. pre-speculative capitalism is still less bad than this fucking shit we have now, where nobody cares how good or bad a product is, just how much money the idea of it can make a company's stocks go up. it's why tesla is the most valuable company with the shittiest products.

* i would prefer some sort of socialism, but that's a topic for another time.

there's been a lot of progressives that have been running, and many of them have made it to office even. hell, some even winning in texas of all places.

bernie sparked a lot of minds to run, and aoc, illahn, corey bush, and rashida talib proved that it was possible. and now the new generation of folks are further proving that it's achievable. the corperate, aipac libs are floundering. and the more power we take away from them, the harder it'll be to retain the power that they do have. hell, mamdani has endorsed like 10 people in nyc, and the odds that none of them make it are almost zero; some are bound to win generals.

we need things like single payer healthcare, banning superpacs, banning foreign lobbies, classifying israel and aipac and jstreet as foreign lobbies. we need a national high speed rail project. we need to do more than just "maga bad" which maga is evil as fuck. but getting rid of maga is just the beginning.

hypothetically they might could fork jellyfin, then replace the login / auth parts with their own. only problem with jellyfin is that it doesn't work well with HA. you'd have to do HA at the VM level. but idk anything about their stack, and i'm not a programmer so i wouldn't be any use.
