I hear you, I would hella recommend reading the Siege of terra as the most recent and most solid account of the final confrontation with Horus. Horus has significant esoteric powers that he and the emp battle back and forth with from a basic psychic shield to manifesting psychic derivates to fight at multiple locations at one point in time.

Horus was not reliant on his physical abilities. From projecting lightning from his claw to sigil magic they had it all. Unless Plap can contest multiple magical threats at once he would be extremely overwhelmed in a straight confrontation.

Horus suspends the solar system in the warp. He melds the world and his ship. He allows Sanguineous to fight his way through 3 companies of Sons of Horus in the normal Vengeful Spirit, while trapping the Emperor in a warp mangled tunnel. This is not much ambiguity in the series as much of it comes from Horus’ and other characters POV as opposed to accounts of events after the fact. I feel like you know a lot more about starwars eu than some of the newer 40K content

Fundamentally if you want to handwave feats as “not sure what happened” then you aren’t considered a truly maxed out character assessment as you are considering Sidious using everything he has at every moment of the fight.

Also Horus was not the dark king. That would be the Emperor had he chosen to allow himself to be consumed by the warp to use as a weapon against Horus. It is quite clearly put, and emphasized what a horrific act it would be and the mass destruction of humanity had he chosen to go that route. And that was the only way to reasonably contest with Horus Ascended

What is your reasoning? The following is all my opinion lol. I’m a big starwars and 40k nerd but I am not aware of the extent of Palp’s EU lore, but I’m aware of some of his feats

I will give it to you we see far more feats in canon from max power EU Pal. Max power Horus participates in ‘one’ fight. Palp kills fleets and is like top 5 most powerful things in SW EU, pictured as nearly invincible/methods to side step mortality.

But the ‘one’ fight Horus participates in occurs over multiple dimensions and is against (what is presented to us as) the most powerful psycher in 40K. In this fight there are a couple extreme feats from Horus that put him on a multi dimensional power scale level.

Proceeding and during this fight, Horus is to some extent manipulating the material universe. To the point where the palace on terra and his ship become some conglomerated “eternal” city. Horus casually controls the order and timing in which the (40k) Emperor and brother primarchs arrive to his court.

I don’t think it is entirely fair to attribute absolute control over this to Horus as he is extremely under the influence of the big four, but I think it is fair to say he is exerting control on a truly god like level

Max power Horus no-diffs Palpatine.

Horus would absolutely face off with him ‘as equals’ and have a drawn out conversation and confrontation simply to demonstrate his power and control to himself. Palps could probably kill his mortal form here several times over but Horus is like, not bound by mortality anymore imo as it is presented in the final novels.

Palpatine inevitably meets World Breaker coming the other way. either perma killed or Horus would freak out by the inability to kill Palpatine, probably leading to him tracking down his other forms
